The city of Concord has closed its open space areas Tuesday through Wednesday evening, as this week’s heat event increases wildfire danger.

The city said it’s doing so at the recommendation of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

The closures include Lime Ridge Open Space and the open space trails within Newhall Community Park.

Con Fire and city staff will reevaluate conditions mid-week and determine whether to extend the closures.

The city has also opened a cooling center at the Concord Senior Center, where air conditioning and comfortable seating will be available this week.

The center at 2727 Parkside Circle will open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It will open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday.

The Concord Community Pool at 3501 Cowell Road is open for recreational swimming from 1-4 p.m. on weekdays, and 12:30-5 p.m. on weekends.

Good idea! Should close all of it and Mt Diablo access for several days…. too hot, low humidity, too much fuel

Thank you for this information. I saw red flashing lights through my bathroom window at about 5am. They were parked up at the Via Montañas entrance to the trail. Lime Ridge is a tinder box right now; it was good to see them there. Hoping for a safe 4th for all. Please be smart people.
