Air Distirct Launches New Air Quality Notification Service

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District on Monday announced a new subscription service that can notify residents via text and email of incidents impacting county-level and regional air quality.

Residents can sign up for air quality incident notifications on the district’s website, at https://www.baaqmd.gov/contact-us/sign-up-for-information/air-quality-incident-notifications .

Subscribers can sign up to register for emails and text alerts for incidents affecting specific counties or the entire Bay Area.

“This new subscription service will help the Air District get the word out quickly to Bay Area residents when incidents like industrial fires, refinery flaring, wildfires or widespread odors are affecting local or regional air quality,” said Dr. Philip Fine, executive officer of the air district.

The number of notifications may vary from one per month to more than 15, depending on the frequency of incidents, according to the air district website.

The service, the website also noted, should serve as a supplement, but not a replacement, to other air quality notification services, such as community warnings, Spare the Air alerts, local news coverage and the Environmental Protection Agency fire and smoke map.

They want us to pay for something we can get from other sources? Air quality can sometimes be checked by looking out the window or getting a sniff of bad air.

“subscription service” when people are hurting financially from inflation ? ? ?
Lemme guess, a committee thought this up. Then again given their budget, what they pay employees and executives can see why they’d think it was a good idea.
.
Dorothy, … you are spot on.
Mr. Mayor does an excellent job of keeping Claycord informed.

airnow.gov already by the EPA already has service this along with all the sensors they have around the county. Let’s just use that and disband BAAQMD, it’s duplicative and a waste of taxpayer dollars. Maybe have them do something else to help business creation, limit slow growth polices, reduce poverty by providing opportunities.

The link in the article didn’t work for me.

I want as little to do with BAAQ as possible.

It’s a waste of money.

Another hokey organization just in it for the paycheck – I’ve taken them to task in asking for their specific criteria for calling a spare the air day – there isn’t any! it’s all subjective… – true story!

It’s a private company funded by taxpayers. Trying to fleece the people who still wearing masks alone in the car. Yeah sure pay for a subscription to their 🤡 show. Haha sure. But you know who will? Cities and counties and all the other public/private entities who survive off taxpayers.

It’s time to disband the BAAQMD! Disband ABAG, the MTC, and all other unelected and unaccountable regional government agencies, too!

Agree 100% .They are nothing but a bunch of worthless people that accomplish nothing, collecting a big paycheck from the taxpayers. All that money saved could be used to help build a new electric power plant.
