@S
B)
I haven’t had Couscous. I’ve had Quinoa once with a salmon filet, but not a huge fan. Congrats on being first again. 🙂

B, A can be too bland. But the two are a texture war. 🙄

Out of curiosity, why no coverage of yesterdays two alarm veg fire in martinez or todays multi alarm in Brentwood?
Fire season unfortunately is here

I’ve noticed more cobwebs than usual, this spring. They’re all over everything – the succulents, car mirrors, house windows, everywhere. I’ve been chasing spiders out of the house. Anybody else notice this?

Yes, we have noticed and it’s more than other years.
Cleaned before our visit to Colorado and came home to a ton more.
Shop Vacuum the outside of house for webs worked.
Thinking now if bug bombing the vehicles will help, … it’s crazy!!

Simonpure June 8, 2024 - 7:53 PM - 7:53 PM

I do not care for flying insects so by default, spiders are my friends. After a while you have to vacuum them up. (Webs) We (family) do not kill things. I will call you soon.

My place looks like a haunted house. It’s friggin ridiculous this year!

They are invading my security cameras. They are impervious to the usual repellents too like vaporub. Spiders must be aliens from space. 😁

On the positive side, spiderwebs around the outside of the house, help keep the flying insects out, but I don’t like them on the car. I opened the hood and sprayed some bug spray, then shut the hood, so the spray can do its thing. Then I carefully sprayed a little into the side view mirrors, and wiped any that dripped down. I also sprayed around and under my tailpipes where they like to hang out. If you don’t kill the spiders, they will just spin another web, and reproduce, then you’re stuck with lots of baby spiders.

Can we talk about moths for a second? Never ever until this year have we had moths appear indoors. Not sure of the type so we’ve tried both pantry moth traps and clothing moth traps to no avail. Have not caught one moth in the traps! Anyone else dealing with this and have had success treating (Other than the use of moth balls that smell horrid!) Gah!

Original G June 8, 2024 - 12:43 AM - 12:43 AM

Harbor Freight sells a tennis racket looking bug zapper, it works great. Keep one next to recliner.
On Amazon or ebay search for sj-bz15w-wht Unit under $30. Has UV light source that attracts bugs, fan sucks ’em in and replaceable sticky trap paper catches them. Only buy white units, black units don’t work well.

I heard cedar chips work well, but haven’t had the issue (yet). I saw cedar spray at ACE Hardware on display, so must be an increased thing this lately?????????????????

@ Original G & @ S… I appreciate the feedback and will try your suggestions out! It’s been awful. It’s almost like Alfred Hitchcock the Birds only with moths.Ok maybe exaggeraing with the comparison but it’s been terrible and they need to go!

Sorry OG, the original rolls just sat on a spindle on top of a counter.
The wall mounted roller came later….(just guessing).

Auto Insurance Increases
Was notified that my Auto Insurance is going up thanks to our wonderful governor and insurance commissioner.
Seems my carrier was granted a 30% increase by these two.
My increase is close to $70…. A MONTH!!
That’s a pretty big hit if you are on a fixed income or just getting by.
Wonder how many folks will end up dropping their coverage? Wonder what percentage of CA drivers do not carry insurance now? CA hands out drivers licenses, what about insurance?
Another tax on CA drivers, another reason to leave CA.

Any others received this same wonderful news of an increase on your auto insurance?

Original G June 9, 2024 - 1:30 PM - 1:30 PM

Insurance on primary residence went up 60%, no explanation given.
In candid conversation with longtime agent,
seems more affluent zip codes are being hit the hardest.
Will be interesting when campaign contributions for DEM politicians for 2024 come out, wonder how much money could be tracked back to insurance company employees?
.
Wonder how much in future campaign contributions are promised for presidential run?

Kentucky Derby June 9, 2024 - 4:53 PM - 4:53 PM

More affluent zip codes are being hit the hardest. Our homeowners went up 98%, and our auto insurance 35%. This month will be the first month of 98% higher homeowners’ insurance, so we increased our deductible. After calling around, we’d pay even more through other insurance companies. I guess it could be worse. At least we weren’t cancelled and we can afford to pay more.

Our reward for allowing DEMs to run our state.

Well Folks June 10, 2024 - 8:56 AM - 8:56 AM

Sorry Ignatz but I live out of state and I’m on my 3rd big increase on auto and homeowners insurance so hate to burst your bubble but increases are happening EVERTYWHERE. The excuse for homeowners in the west is fire, for my friends in Nebraska it is tornado. The excuse for auto has and always will be “cost of repair”.
Bottom line big insurance like, big energy and big pharma own the gov’t from DC to local.

Itsme June 9, 2024 - 4:26 PM - 4:26 PM

Is anyone else seeing a lot of black widow spiders around the outside of your homes?

2
Concord Guy June 10, 2024 - 10:00 AM - 10:00 AM

My experience with black widows is that they like the dark. Be careful in your garage if you keep shoes and gloves there.

I haven’t seen any this year.

Ancient Mariner June 9, 2024 - 4:56 PM - 4:56 PM

In addition to my spider problem, I have also noticed that several gas stations no longer replenish the paper in the gas pumps. You press “Yes” for a receipt, there is a buzzing noise, but no receipt comes out. You have to go inside the building and ask for a receipt. Has anybody else noticed this?

Dr Jellyfinger June 9, 2024 - 8:28 PM - 8:28 PM

Yes! and I’m pretty pissed off about it!
I have to stand in line while the people in front of me take forever to make their purchase and “cain’t figger out why the dang credit card won’t work” OR ” I want them cigarettes up there, the red & white packs, no….. the ones next to that” OR they talk on the phone while they are supposed to be paying and all of this friggin wasted time because somebody was too lazy to do their simpleton job!

Original G June 9, 2024 - 10:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Oh come on now . . . . yain’t gonna find that level of entertainment on daytime TV.
Where else can you find that many examples of the impoverished Me-First Generation of impulse buyers in their natural habitat ? ? ? Same ones who are hopelessly baffled when credit card statement shows up and it’s total has more commas than their pay check does.
