Today’s question:

California lawmakers have voted to do away with reusable plastic bags after the elimination of single-use plastic bags failed to reduce plastic pollution, according to a report by Fox News.

“California’s original ban on plastic bags hasn’t worked out as planned, and sadly, the state’s plastic bag waste has increased dramatically since it went into effect,” said Sen. Catherine Blakespear, the bill’s author, in a statement. “California must do its part to eliminate this scourge that is contaminating our environment,” Fox News reported.

QUESTION: Do you think this ban on reusable plastic bags is necessary, or do you think it will just cause problems for shoppers?

Talk about it….

We all know that the charge they have on the plastic bags was due to lobbying by those bag manufacturers so they could make more money. Not being able to use a reusable plastic bag will of course increase more plastic waste especially if you bring it bag in for reuse the next time. And will the stores now tell me I can’t use the cloth reusable bag the stores or the city themselves gave us free? I hope they’re not that stupid (we already know how stupid legislators are).

As for enterprise their upper management seems to be once the customer buys something dealing with the plastic packing, etc. it’s the customer’s problem. There should be a fine for enterprise doing that.

You can tell it’s an election year. 🙄

What’s next from the omniscient California government? Metal or cement bags that last forever?
p.s. Plastic bags are a big priority. It appears that there’s nothing more important going on here in the state that requires the government’s attention and energy.

I think we have bigger fish to fry here in Cali than be distracted by petty BS. Look over here! Not over there!

So, it looks like we’re going back to paper bags.

Paper bags are an environmental no-no also. I think that is what started the plastic bag being used. Now they have become environmental no-no. Rather than bag everything in the store I take it all to the car in the cart and unload there where I can use whatever kind of container I want.

Problems with reusable grocery bags have been documented for over a decade.

People eat the bags? I recall that viruses can’t live very long on plastic. People need to develop healthier immune systems that can kick about anything.

FPN May 29, 2024 - 2:48 PM - 2:48 PM

If everyone would eat dirt are immune systems could handle the plastic bag virus and cure homelessness. That could be our new motto.

Have to give some credit to posters here, who said no one will use the thicker recycled bags and just toss them. Wish our politicians had the same common sense.

We use paper anyway, then re-use them for recycling.

If they really wanted to make a dent they should look at how all drinks are delivered to stores, they are now wrapped in very thick plastic, way more waste than the bags.

It didn’t work out as planned, they say. When was the last time anything they propose work out as planned?

Wow … something that our government said would work, didn’t? Color me shocked!

So what do I carry my grocieries in npw? And the more important question, how much will that cost me?

I think it necessary to keep the legislature away from this level of daily living. Perhaps they should focus intently on the illegal alien invasion (yes, I know, they are wholly supportive of this invasion), or maybe determine ways to spend our taxpayer money in such a way that criminals remained house where they should be. Regardless, less time focused on legislation that drives away business, tourists and even productive citizens.

If everyone obsessed with plastic bags would put one over their head the scourge of environmental contamination would be greatly reduced.

Agree with the above, the plastic arm baskets will vanish within days.

Hey, it’s practically legal……

I went to farmer’s market today. I’m wondering how banning all plastic bags is going to work for the vendors there? Maybe if they bake their own bread!

Have you ever wondered what happened to all the recycling centers? I use to save up all my cans and plastic bottles and cash them in. Now just a few left with long line’s. How much money does the state government get to keep? Time for an investigation.

This is hilarious. Tax it, ban it, regulate it, minimum wage it. Costco’s box model is looking pretty good.

How come other countries can recycle plastic bags, but we can’t? I’ve read articles where used. plastic bags can be turned back into oil! I’ve also read how they can be recycled with other plastics to make walls, and roads! Ending the use of these bags is not going to help much, when the produce section of your local stores are filled with tons of vegetables, and salads prepackaged in plastic bags. Not to mention the tons of plastic containers used by grocery stores to provide for prepared fruits and vegetables of their own creation.
