Today’s question:

The Justice Department on Thursday formally moved to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug in a historic shift in generations of US drug policy, according to the NY Post.

A proposed rule sent to the federal register recognizes the medical uses of cannabis and acknowledges it has less potential for abuse than some of the nation’s most dangerous drugs, the Post reported.

QUESTION: Do you agree or disagree with this reclassification of marijuana?

Talk about it….

As dangerous as alcohol? If you look up the history of marijuana it got classified as a dangerous drug for political reasons not because it is dangerous.

Exactly. Plus part of the definition of Schedule 1 drugs is that they have no medical use, which never applied to cannabis and is now commonly considered to be incorrect.

Correct, if so dangerous why have they funded a “research” grow operation with Ole Miss since 1968 and have provided a handful of patients with 300 pre-rolled’s a month since 1977. “Reefer Madness” really has folks spooked!

simply a paper act. Very little enforcement of it at the current Schedule as it is. Less potential than most dangerous drugs? Took DOJ lawyers to come up with that observation? My suspicion is this is a move to attract a certain number of voters, given the timing. At the end of the day, I think, whatever. I am sure those meth/crack heads seen rather frequently will still stand at the intersections trying to collect loose change as they waste away, happy to know some paper pusher at Justice changed the classification of pot.

Nothing more than vote buying of 18 – 29 year olds.
Only reason DEMs had federal government take over student loans
was so every election cycle they can dangle the carrot of loan forgiveness to buy votes.
.
Shows how incredibly desperate and afraid DEMs are of not retaining control.

And once we get rid of the stupidly useless Electoral College republicans will never again hold the executive!
Bye Felicia!

Electoral College levels the field, keeping very large population concentrations from overwhelming less populated states in presidential elections. Do some research and while you’re at it look up history of Italy form 1922 to 1945. These days some might say an equivalent is government colluding with social media to influence elections and restrict free speech.
History has a name for type of governance Italy had 1930s – 1945.
.
Unfortunate, so many don’t learn warning signs from history.
There are a some who view DEM efforts as similar to 1930s – 1940s Italy.

To each their own, so I don’t care one way or the other. In my experience, I have come to the conclusion that getting high on drugs or booze is for those that lack the resilience needed to face the challenges of reality. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing, a lot of people have difficulty coping with certain aspects of their life, and find it helpful and relaxing. It gets bad when it becomes excessive.

Whiskey’s too rough
Champagne costs too much
Vodka puts my mouth in gear
Well, this little refrain
Should help me explain
As a matter of fact I like beer

If you’re allowing whiskey and vodka over the shelf then weeds fine. More concerned with the overcrowding/inflation, the politicians aka the uni party spending all of our money on nonsense. Did you guys see Gavin acting like he doesn’t know where the 20 billion for homeless went? What a joke that guy should be in jail he probably embezzled it

Current inflation is a direct result of printing %30 of circulating M2 money supply.
Guess which of your presidents did that?

Thinking with any drugs/alcohol it depends on how a person reacts per make-up of their being.
A dosage for one or another can be so different on they can function or knocked off their A$$.
I would think twice with changing the classification.

Research suggests that marijuana use increases the risk of psychosis in people who have schizophrenia. Smoking marijuana can affect your memory and cognitive function and cause harmful cardiovascular effects, such as high blood pressure. Long-term marijuana use can worsen respiratory conditions.and cause Parkinsons

High strength weed and concentrated THC is creating a generation of young people with serious mental heath issues. This is not your grandparents weed. It is far more addictive and damaging.

The silver lining to the lower classification will be the increased ability of medical research to more fully study its effects.

Hindsight is 2020. In 20 years we will be looking back why we unleashed this plague on our young people.

Part of the problem was the popularity of medical marijuana.

In an effort to make dispensaries and strip-mall doctors seem less sleazy, pot began to be referred to as “medicine”.

Somewhere along the way people internalized this terminology believing the more “medicine” the better. And in doing so they forgot that the terminology was just part of a strategy to obtain dope legally.

As long as there are giant warehouse clubs full of liquor and stores on every corner that sell liquor, it seems to me that society has given the ok for alcoholism. If we give people the freedom to go home and get inebriated off alcohol, who am I to say no to some pot. Seems to hypocritical for me and plus, stoners are way happier, relaxed people than drunks falling all over themselves. Might as well stop fighting it and cash in.

“who am I to say no to some pot” You are an individual who had the opportunity to vote on the legalization in one of the state’s propositions (assuming you were of age to vote). That is who you are. Aside from that, just a voice on the internet, like the rest of us.

Oh Brother May 17, 2024 - 7:18 PM - 7:18 PM

Yes other Jeff I had the opportunity to vote for more cannabis and took full advantage of it, none of your business. What is your point though? Thanks for pointing out who you think I am. You seem like you might think you know a lot.

You can still loose your second amendment rights for pot use and possession.

Yeah, but marijuana is still an illegal drug, and unlike alcohol, is not protected by the 21st amendment.
