A two-vehicle collision killed a motorist Sunday night on state Highway 4 near outside of Martinez, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At approximately 11:54 p.m., patrol officers were alerted to a crash on westbound state Highway 4 east of Hercules. The CHP Contra Costa said that a grey Jeep Wrangler and a silver Buick Regal were traveling westbound on Highway 4 when they collided.
The driver and sole occupant of the Buick sustained severe injuries and was eventually pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the Jeep was reportedly not injured.
“Our preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Buick was not wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash,” the CHP Contra Costa said.

I can only speculate as to the proximate cause of this accident. Whatever the case, I avoid Highway 4 between Hercules and Brentwood like the plague. It is a Blood Alley, but not because of the roadway design.
It’s amazing how many people choose not to wear their seatbelt and then pay the ultimate price.
