CHP STATEMENT ON BAY AREA PROTESTS

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has been actively engaged in the de-escalation of multiple ongoing protests in the Bay Area this morning, including on the Golden Gate Bridge. Working alongside our law enforcement partners in the Bay Area, officers are working to clear lanes.

Officers responded to each location and determined protesters had utilized various devices intended to impede law enforcement’s ability to remove protesters, including 55-gallon drums filled with concrete. Resources from CHP offices across the Bay Area, as well as allied agency personnel from the Oakland Police Department, San Francisco Police Department, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, and Golden Gate Bridge patrol responded to each incident and evaluated what was needed to remove the devices and to take those involved into custody.

• On I-880 @ Embarcadero, officers had to contend with 55-gallon drums filled with cement and heavy-duty chains attaching protesters to the drums. They are actively working to remove these individuals and lanes will be reopened. These individuals will be arrested.
• On I-880 @ 7th Street, approximately 300 protestors refused to comply with orders to disperse. Arrests are taking place.
• On the Golden Gate Bridge, protesters utilized stationary vehicles to chain themselves to as they refused to clear lanes. Approximately 20 people have been arrested and are in custody. The Golden Gate Bridge reopened at approximately 12:15 PM.

This is an intricate operation, and we are making every effort to get the lanes open as quickly as possible.
Attempting to block or shut down a freeway or state highway to protest is unlawful, dangerous, and prevents motorists from safely reaching their destinations. As necessary, the CHP will take enforcement action that includes, but is not limited to, issuing citations, impounding vehicles, arresting individuals who intentionally block traffic on the state’s transportation system or pose a threat to public safety.
The CHP remains dedicated to providing the highest level of Safety, Service and Security to the people of California.

These people aren’t bringing sympathy to their cause.

Why is it “their” cause and not yours? Are you OK with your tax dollars funding a foreign war?

You don’t have to be Pro-Palestine to want US involvement to end. If you’re Pro-Israel that’s a valid opinion as well. But this widespread apathy is sickening. We’re funding two wars at once and you’re acting like the bigger threat is getting stuck in traffic.

As Dante said, the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in a time of moral crisis maintain their neutrality.

How many of these people do you believe are protesting the misuse or perceived misuse of their tax dollars? I would posit that the cause for the vast majority of them is simply anti-Israel. That’s why it’s “their” cause and not mine.

It’s too bad they put up the new nets underneath the bridge. It will be a lot farther to throw the protestors off the bridge. These people need to do some jail time and blocking freeways and bridges should be felonies. Same for the people doing “sideshows.” What the hell have we become as a society??

This is CA voters getting what they wanted.

Line up the buses, breakout the zip ties and then take 48 – 72 hours to process them.
See how they like having their lives disrupted.
Then slap harsh sanctions on countries financing these protests.
Plus encourage commuters to file civil suits against these useful idiots.

Unfortunately probably about the only way the general public dummies are going to pay any attention to how where their tax dollars are being wasted by the military industrial complex. There are probably better ways to protest but that requires thinking by the dummies on the left. 🙄

I’m not sure why they didn’t protest our involvement in Ukraine. Definitely sucked being stuck in traffic today. But the US needs to stop the endless undeclared wars. Often, as is the case with Israel and Iran, we are funding both sides and it is destroying our country as well

@YOYo
Most important they need to stop voting democrat.

If they want to protest so badly, they should go to Gaza & do it there!

55
3

These protesters should sit down an be forced to watch 30 minutes of October 7 Hamas-generated video.

42
9

Free the hostages.

you mean bridge hostages held by hypocrites…..

2
2

i would just power thru them, they will move

Suggestion, protestors could protest their cause and do We The People of California a large public service.
Encircle state legislature preventing politicians from meeting and doing further DAMAGE to California.

28

The right to peacefully protest is a constitutionally protected guarantee. Arrest as appropriate but the conservatives who often post here should take caution on allowing the government to infringe on the right to protest. As the Democratic government in California continues to censor speech and credible information in opposition to the Democratic Party and as the feds have been granted bipartisan access to spy on everyone’s info without warrants under the revised FISA bill last week and as both are combined with the militarization of local police forces, you are going to need it.

Hope, the cost of freedom is responsibility.
One bunch of people revoking other peoples rights is never being responsible.
If some people decide to not be responsible, then they should not enjoy freedom.
Blocking freeways, inhibiting the freedom of movement is simply wrong.
For doing wrong things there must be consequences.

There are many ways to make a point without causing the mayhem we see today.

All the protesters did today was anger responsible people.

They did not further their cause, no matter what the media may claim.

36

ABE,
.
Hope Johnson did post “Arrest as appropriate.”

How would you ever think this is peaceful protesting? It is so far from it.

19
2

Peaceful protest is waving a sign while standing on the sidewalk. Chaining yourself to a cement filled barrel in the middle of the street is domestic terrorism.

11
1

Hope, these protesters are testing the waters to see what they can get away with. And, until liberals such as yourself wake up, their hostile acts will only escalate.

6
2

Unfortunately, they have a long leash. They’ve been arrested. Now what? They will get a slap on the wrist. Better to send them to Gaza and make them protest there to the people (holding guns) that can make a change. See how well that goes.

8
3

Protesting is one thing… blocking traffic is putting lives in danger.
Either protest peacefully in an open setting without causing problems or police should bring out the tear gas, billy clubs & handcuffs!
Stop pampering these A**holes!

55
4

There were reports 55 gallon drums of cement were used by protesters to chain themselves to.
Simple Bring in a row truck throw a snatch block to railing and winch barrel to side of bridge, close off protester lane with K-rails and reopen bridge. Leave ’em there overnight.

I hope these jamooks went to the bathroom before encasing their arms in the cememnt barels. I would make ssss noisises and pour water on the ground so they soil themsleves.

1

You forgot the fire hoses.

Large truck with full sized snow plow, street sweeper to cleanup the bits. Bridge would have been open in 20 minutes.

23
3

I like SF OH’s idea below, but, I like your idea juuuuuust a bit more.

2
1

Park several fire trucks in front of them and turn on the hoses – full blast.

23

I like your idea SF OH, but, I like Antonius’ above idea juuuuuust a bit more.

….what gets me is that it seems to be ok in lib Cali to disrupt thousands of people – some with extremely urgent Dr appts, emergencies , etc. for the bleeding hearts to make their protest…. that is the outrageous part of this and they are allowed to do it time and time again… we need some strength – not the weak voted in by the libs

If Reagan was still governer they would all be in prison

I’m not sure why they didn’t protest our involvement in Ukraine. Definitely sucked being stuck in traffic today. But the US needs to stop the endless undeclared wars. Often, as is the case with Israel and Iran, we are funding both sides and it is destroying our country as well

4
17

They don’t protest because they’ve been conditioned to think that everything wrong in the world is caused by Putin. He’s the Dem bugaboo.

They do protest Israel because they hate Jews. They won’t say it out loud, but that’s the root of their protesting.

9
3

If this was for the most important “cause” in America/world/life one could think of, there is still no way anyone should think this is acceptable behavior. This should be a felony plain and simple. This is about as effective as virtue signal social media posts on the internet. Has anyone ever really been won over by this? I think not.

27
3

But these are yours/bidens people

4
6

Serious question: How is this not considered an act of terrorism? Being blocked/trapped on a bridge would definitely invoke fear on civilians.

Terrorism Defined. The unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social goals.

26
4

People get trapped on a the bridge everyday. It’s called traffic.

Do you really want to grant the government broader powers to arrest civilians based on political ideology? Would you have them sent to Gitmo as well?

Terrorism requires the intent to spread terror. Anything less could be a crime, but certainly not terrorism.

3
29

The textbook definition of terrorism

CONCORD MAN,
.
The FBI defines the following as “Domestic Terrorism: Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.”
.
The right of the Pro-Palestinian Protesters to peacefully protest shouldn’t infringe upon those individuals engaging in their right to travel on the roadways of the United States, but we shouldn’t lower the standards of prosecuting acts of domestic terrorism to “feelings” and “inconvenience.” These Pro-Palestinian Protestors may have engaged in criminal acts, but not terrorism.
.
As YOYOHOP stated, “People get trapped on a the bridge everyday. It’s called traffic.” We have traffic problems and parking problems throughout California on a daily basis that affects the lives of millions of individuals, for no other reason than the State of California having declared a “War on Cars,” purposely causing traffic and parking problems by not expanding roadways as needed and requiring fewer parking spaces, in order to make California’s travelers miserable enough that they won’t travel by car, but instead will walk, bike, and use public transportation as their preferred modes of transportation. Is the State of California, as well as those individuals that have made these decisions, engaging in “terrorism” by purposely creating traffic and parking problems, just as these protesters caused traffic problems, or is the state just engaging in “behavior modification” and “social engineering?”
.
Why would you want to lower the standards of “terrorism” to give government more power to prosecute Americans that you disagree with, because once they have that power in their hands, as a tool of their “prosecutorial political terrorism,” they won’t just use it against those you disagree with, but they’ll use it to prosecute those that they disagree with, and that you happen to agree with. We have a corrupt government, corrupt “justice system,” corrupt judges, and corrupt prosecutors!!! We see their corruption each and every day!!! Don’t give these corrupt people more power to use against WE THE PEOPLE!!!

Just get a blow torch and heat up the hand grips they’ll drop them quickly I promise! I would grab one end and tie their arm to a rope and attach the other end to my trailer hitch and start pulling. Somethings bound to give!

Isn’t interesting most protests are in areas controlled by DEMs and protesters weren’t dealt with until after news helicopters had their footage and live reports were made. Almost as if law enforcement was told to allow protest to continue even though there was sufficient manpower on hand to deal with protesters.
.
Yet in Florida “F” around and find out, FAFO, was order of the day.
“Video clips show Miami police officers dragging the radical leftists, some of whom had tethered themselves to each other, off the streets like sacks of flour and dumping them on the sidewalks before they could successfully block the PortMiami entrance.”

So glad I’m watching this from several states away now.

My wife and I both had medical appointments at UCSF today and as we were approaching her doctor’s office we got a call that my doctor had to cancel all of his appointments today because he couldn’t get across the Golden Gate Bridge. He does surgery in the morning and sees patients in the afternoon. So some people didn’t get their surgeries and I have to make another trip to San Francisco; fortunately the delay in my appointment was not an issue. Peaceful demonstrations are part of our freedoms, but when they cause this kind of disruption, the protesters should be held accountable. I noticed that there were several CHP cars parked along the shoulders of the Bay Bridge, I suspect to deal with any protesters if they decided to try to block the bridge.

19

It could stop when the Palestines give up all of Hamas and send the hostages back. Maybe stand trial for all the murders they committed. Sane people support Israel and denounce the M terrorists.

19
2

yea thall get em to stop, and at the same time time you will see donkeys fly
the USA will just demand these countries stop so no more problems happen here on the freeway and in a church, sure ok….
please grow up

If the Palestinian people won’t do anything to eliminate the sewer rats living among them known as Hamas, other people will have to.

2
1

In the hierarchy of socially irresponsible behavior, these people are worse than sideshow participants.

15
1

I love all these comments, be frustrated, protest correctly. Do not be a hindrance to people trying to feed their families.
I get it, you don’t like what’s going on. Be a leader, promote change, inspire the leaders of the world. Don’t be a dick like the people today.
The only way you can change the world is one of two ways…..
1. Vote
2. Have an army behind you, and be a dictator and destroy all opposition.

These people today did nothing to change what has been happening for decades in that region. Since the crusade’s that region has been a hot bed for religious so called freedom.

9
1

And we’re expected to believe these “demonstrations” are in no way coordinated or funded by foreign interests……..

13
1

Many were booked in Alameda County jail, not the country club jail of SF Hopefully for falss imprisonment and felony conspiracy.

6
1

Conspiring to commit a misdemeanor is a felony

They dont realize breaking the law on the GG bridge is different than breaking the law in Calif, its a federal bridge, there are seperate laws such speeding on the GG bridge” is different than just speeding.Put them in federal prison

6
7

Guido if they let u vote you caused this and to expect the guy you voted for to do anything right youve been day dreaming

3
7

Why cant the protesters go demonstrate in Roseville or Bakersfield?

3
2

These protesters support kidnapping, rape and murder. The Palestinians/Hamas broke the cease fire on October 7th, and Hamas stated they can’t wait to do it again. Israel has no choice.

11
1

There were several accidents caused because of this protest. Each of the protesters should be beld responsible and have to pay back all of the cost.
