Before moving to 4700 Clayton Rd., Clayton Valley Food Center was at Clayton Rd. and Treat Blvd., before the Bel-Air shopping center was constructed.

Im too young to be around when this store was open but cool to see old time concord.

we would walk there to get candy other junk food us kids loved. They were before Alpha Beta!

I remember lots of small family grocery businesses, from way back in the day.
Slow Sams market, in Saranap, is one that stands out in my memory.

Used to go to Slo Sam’s as a kid growing up in Parkmead. It is now Il Pavone restaurant and there is a painting of Slo Sam’s market hanging in the bar!
