Ygnacio Valley Rd. At Pine Hollow Rd./Alberta Way – 1955

Ygnacio Valley Rd. At Pine Hollow/Alberta Way – 2022 (google earth)

Look! It’s Ygnacio Valley Rd. when it was called “The Freeway To Pittsburg,” in 1955.

Back then, they considered this a freeway, and at one time, they even thought about making it an extension of hwy.24.

Eventually, it turned into Ygnacio Valley Rd. (some called it Ygnacio Valley Freeway).

At a minimum WC should finish the repaving they started ( having only completed the more visible part to San Miguel to enhance the city’s “visibility”) …that is to repave YVR from San Miguel to the city line up on the hill past Oak Grove – it’s in horrible condition east and west bound…. funding for the project was scooped to pay for the gold plated Heather Farms and office pool project. The repaving was estimated to be about $1M / mile – so even given $5M (which is high) the gold plated Heather Farms office project is costing $76M!!

The State Route highway proposal was supposed to continue down Railroad Avenue and a bridge was to be built from Pittsburg to Montezuma, with the highway continuing to Interstate 80 or directly to Sacramento.
