A Bay Point man died Sunday when his vehicle couldn’t maneuver around a turn on a wet and muddy road north of Highway 4 near Martinez and crashed into a fence.

The Contra Costa Coroner’s Office said 30-year-old Jonathan Ojeda was killed.

CHP said Ojeda was driving around 11 a.m. Sunday near Franklin Canyon Road and Wolcott Lane when the Can-am utility task vehicle he was driving left the road and crashed into a chain-link fence.

Initial reports said the vehicle rolled over. Ojeda was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the vehicle weren’t injured.

Investigators determined Ojeda wasn’t properly wearing his seatbelt.

The crash is still under investigation. CHP asks anyone with information to contact its Martinez office at (925) 646-4980 or email your contact information to 320Investigations@chp.ca.gov.

Why feel the need to comment this

Because it’s clear that there are lots of people who don’t wear their seatbelt and perhaps a snide comment is what it will take for everybody to use them! It’s really hard in 2024 to feel sorry for somebody who loses their life because of their own careless choices!

I honestly pray that nothing like this happens to your family. Sure people make bad decisions, but that doesn’t lessen the pain and suffering of the family members who are left to deal with the loss of a loved one. You clearly have no sense of self awareness or respect for others sufferings.
