Cowellian’s first

Heard around our house this week: “Dessert tonight is putting the heat on.” Stay warm, folks, and have a great weekend.

Pick One:
.
A) Fruit Stripe
B) Juicy Fruit
C) Yuck

Juicy Fruit, but used to love Dentyne and Black Jack gum also – and of course, Double Bubble when young.

B) Juicy Fruit

D) Why do we chew gum? Is there any answer to that?

To keep the dentist busy.

You’d end up going through the pack of Fruit Stripe pretty quick as it would lose it’s flavor in 5 minutes

Even though I’ve been a Jimmy Buffett fan since 1976, I can’t stand Juicy Fruit. So I’m going with Yuck!

“A”
Which sadly is being discontinued,,,,
🙁

Thank you to the kind person on Jennifer Way (Gregory Gardens) who found my cat and took him to the animal shelter. He was a big, friendly cat, but fast – the only one of our cats who could catch a squirrel and bring it to us as a gift. He disappeared 14 years ago and we never saw him again. The shelter found us via the chip in his neck. Unfortunately he was too far gone (basically, dying) and they had to euthanize him. I buried him in the yard near the other cats.

Oh wow. What a story. I’m sorry for your loss, yet glad you got to have closure and burry him at home. Comfort and Peace.

ANCIENT MARINER ~
Oh Darn! We once had a cat that could catch and bring us squirrels too.
He had a short life due to seizures, every 3 days … it was heart breaking.
His quality of life was compromised and sadly had to euthanize him.

Question for the Mayor…Have you considered the option for posters here to have the ability to edit their posts? I know I have made some typos that I wish I could correct, or wanting to add content to a post.

10

An older version of the site did have an edit option. If I recall right it went away after the mandates the globalists demanded for certain things like privacy and cookie policies need to be listed. Obviously politicians and enterprise don’t like individuals and small businesses to have web sites. 🙄

Claycord did have an edit option, but it was short lived. If I’m remembering correctly, it went away because people complained. Posts ended up out of order or something like that.

Wait…people on Claycord complained? 🤔

what’s worse than raining cats and dogs? Hailing taxicabs

I had to read it twice, but then I laughed. 👊

We get the privilege this year of paying $40-$70 for software so we can (semi) easily calculate how much of our hard earned money the federal and state spenders were able to extract from us last year. It is not that I mind paying taxes, though quite a bit at the amount, and a tremendous amount at how inefficiently and recklessly it is spent. Expletive deleted, expletive deleted!

I feel ya. They know exactly how much tax you owe, but if you don’t get the answer right, it’s a whole big thing. I don’t even mind paying them, but guessing exactly right to the penny is stressful. Just send me a damn bill like the rest of these jackals.

You can still buy Black Jack and clove gum at JoAnns in Concord. I always grab a couple packs when I’m there.

Has anyone ever heard of a contractor telling someone that if they are 65 or older that they need to have someone under 65 to sign off on the contract or work approvals ‘Due to some California Law’ ? To provide more detail the over 65 party is perfectly capable and of sound making decision condition. Also they made the assumption the person was over 65 to begin with. At any rate this did not sit well with me and curious if this is now a thing? I don’t know what to make of that. TIA

The contractor is trying to evade a 2021 California law that provides additional protections for seniors signing contracts, giving seniors five days instead of three to cancel certain contracts. The law applies to what are know as “door-to-door” contracts – contracts you might sign at home such as for home improvement work – and contracts you sign at sales seminars. Both can be high pressure environments. The law gives seniors an extra two days to think it over and get outside advice. Your contractor is trying to cheat you out of the extra days you are entitled to by telling you someone younger needs to sign for you. He is an unscrupulous person. Look for a different contractor.

@ EL D ~
Thank You for sharing this information.

@EL D

I apprecaiate you taking the time to respond and for the great information. I had a bad feeling about it when he mentioned it and did not go forward with the company but was also concerned this could be the ‘new norm’ with contractors. Thanks again.

@Roz and @FYI, You’re welcome. @FYI, I’m glad you smelled a rat and didn’t sign with that company. I hate to see people get taken advantage of.

Way to look out for your community El D. 🫡

No, but a couple of years ago I had an identity theft issue. Somebody stole money out of two bank accounts and a brokerage account. It was all resolved and the various companies made me whole financially (more or less).
But then I received a call from some county agency whose name I forget. They were concerned about elder abuse and the kind of scams that elders are supposed to fall for. I persuaded the nice (and obviously very hard-working) lady that I am perfectly capable of making my own decisions and was not the victim of a typical elder scam – it was just plain theft. One of my banks must have reported me – apparently it’s the law.
I think there is discrimination against the old – your contractor may be protecting himself from your saying that you were victimized by the him and forced to sign the contract.

Damn Ancient One, mysteriously disappearing pets and identity theft. The two may be related, cats absolutely cannot be trusted. 🤨🐈

Agreed, Atticus. I think it’s the attitude of “Who, me?” they project. Then they start licking their paw innocently, while trying to to hide the pen they were using to forge your signature.

Licking an ick stained paw no doubt. Despite their many crimes, I love their stupid furry faces.

Had one helluva a wind storm yesterday/last night. Gust at 55mp here, 70mph in the Washoe Valley and over 100mph up on the ridges. So after i assemble the chicken taco soup in the crockpot I will go out and put the yard back together. At least the sun is shining today and there is no snow in the forecast for the next 8 days!

As of today Denmark has a new king, King Frederik X (the 10th) and Queen Mary, who is Australian by birth. The met during the Olympics (I think 2000) in a pub! She is very popular in Denmark. Watching some of the ceremonies on Utube, I was struck by how many Danes turned out at the Royal castle in Copenhagen, and surrounding street, to witness this, many waving small Danish flags, even though in January it is quite cold in Denmark.

🇩🇰 Not a big fan of monarchy, but they seem like a cute couple and nice people.

The Danish royals, are much more down to earth and the British. Queen Margrethe’s father, Frederik the 9th, was known for going down to the general store, when he stayed at his hunting lodge, and chat with whoever was there, would often sit down and have a beer. Back then a general store was a meeting place as well, it was not unusual to see a few guys sitting on the bench and drinking a beer or two.
Although Denmark is a social democracy and fairly progressive, both the Queen and the new King and Queen are very popular.

It is part of our tradition and history, same with other European countries that are still a monarchy. Keep in mind they don’t have much political power. We are not like the Russians who killed the zhar and his whole family during the revolution.

You’d think the King of Denmark could be a little classier than to be picking up chicks in a bar!
That’s my territory… and I’m only telling them I’m the sole heir to the throne of Freelandia.

He was there with the future King Felipe of Spain, they had attended the Olympics. He didn’t tell Mary who he was, they met and chatted for a long time, he said his name was Fred and asked for her phone number. Not sure when he told her who he was. My question was always, you meet a girl in a bar, when do you tell her your mother is the Queen of Denmark.

You don’t need to tell anyone when you wear a t-shirt that say’s “My folks are ROYALTY”

I sometimes wonder who actually frequents the Daily Mail. Now I know. 🫣

This morning on impulse I went to Noah’s bagels to grab a single for the road. Not feeling like digging for cash, I used a credit card. Up came the tip menu with the minimum suggested tip of $1 on one $2.75 bagel!
Those “bagel baristas” must do pretty well for themselves.

No info on quiet lane or is it circle?

Can barely get around on this site it’s full of ads and junk.
