The following is from the Pleasant Hill Police Department:

On 12/21/23 and 1/3/24 our officers discovered the front door glass of Ace Hardware on Contra Costa Blvd. shattered, causing thousands of dollars of damage to the business.

On both occasions, further examination showed that it was due to a BB gun being shot at the business.

After an investigation, we identified and arrested Joseph Gardemeyer, age 40 of Brentwood on 1/3/24, who was apparently upset about Ace’s return policy.

Gardemeyer was booked into county jail on felony vandalism charges.

HUMMMmmmm, I’ve never had issue with the return policy.
Anyone else?

Unlike Home Depot, Ace often doesn’t allow you to return an item you bought at one store to be returned to another.

“Ace often doesn’t allow you to return an item you bought at one store to be returned to another” makes sense because Ace hardware stores seem to be franchises. I never have had problems with returns but always go back to the same store. I’ll do the same even for things such as Safeway where I know the stores are owned by the same corporation.

Martinez Ace Hardware is WAAAY better than any other. Alamo is also great. Newer PH store is staffed by employes that don’t know the difference between a cresent wrench and a screwdriver. Very poor!

I’ve returned items purchased at one vs the other (Bill’s on Clayton vs Benjamin’s on YVR)

I feel for businesses nowadays. If they don’t rob you blind, theyll crash cars through your storefront, or vandalize you.

Why is he even coming to this area when there is a Brentwood Ace. Prob got banned from that store too.

See you in the chair

In my over 30 years of dealing with ACE, I have never had a problem with a return!

Ace wouldn’t take his returns because they were things he had stolen from Ace. When is enough going to be enough? Lock up this loser drug addict! Stop enabling him!

Exactly. That’s why he’s trying to return the items at a store in Pleasant Hill. Happens all the time in my store. People show up with stolen merchandise and try to get cash back from us. We won’t accept the returned merchandise. The dems are ruining our state with policies like this and costing retail associates their jobs because the shrink is so high at individual stores they have no choice but to cut back on hours. Thanks Gavin.

Agreed how anyone in their right mind could stand behind the smile & hair gel is mind blowing. He is a cancer to this once great state & should be dealt with at the polls but I guess stupid is as stupid does

Anything related to cleaning a drain or sewer line is non refundable.I deal with Ace on Clayton Road and they are great.I have never had an issue returning an item.

Of course you didn’t you are an honest citizen that didn’t steal the items to begin with, it’s trash like Joseph Gardemeyer that would have issue because they don’t have a receipt for the items that they stole & are demanding money for. Hopefully this POS is held accountable but with our trash DA I highly doubt it.

“Camo” Joe sure gets around. Look him up. Apparently he lives in a hotel in Pleasant hill.
Controlled substances really wrecked his life.

12

Yeah, controlled substances lead to uncontrollable people. Rather quickly.

ALL Schools should teach anger management classes It would help deal with emotions as you grow.
Most crime is caused by some anger issue about life that seems so unfair sometimes.
Many times it is the attitude of the salesperson that makes people want revenge.
If it was a legitimate return, he should have called Ace corporate for help.

I googled this guy. Long rap sheet. Time for our District Attorney to do her job.

When I worked at Starbucks years ago I had a guy come up the the register who wanted to return a travel mug he literally just took off the shelf. Since he didn’t have a reciept our plicy was to mail him a check. I told him that and he immedietly got angry and yelled and made a huge scene.

This guy is a POS tweaker who’s been stealing from stores & people for years. He’s a trust fund baby from a rich family who constantly bail him out. Google his rich daddy Dennis and you’ll see why he never stays in jail. Pretty sure he’s got judges on his payroll. Joe’s crimes continue to escalate, but they believe it’s never their baby boys fault. Now he’s shooting up store window fronts?! His family should be ASHAMED they enable this crackhead! Keep him in jail please!!!
