The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is banning the burning of wood and other solid fuel for Tuesday in the region via a Spare the Air alert.
Smoke from increased wood burning around the Bay Area is expected to combine with light winds and low temperatures overnight to create unhealthy pollution levels.
On Spare the Air days, people in the nine-county Bay Area are not allowed to burn wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuels, although there are exemptions for housing without permanently installed heating where fireplaces or wood stoves are the only source of heat, according to the air district.
People gathering around a fireplace for Christmas on Monday in the Bay Area were able to do so — wood burning was discouraged but not banned by the air district for the day.
First-time violators of the wood burning ban can take a wood smoke awareness course or pay a $100 fine, while subsequent violations are subject to higher fine amounts.
Wood smoke is the major source of air pollution in the Bay Area in the wintertime. The air district says exposure to wood smoke can be linked to serious respiratory or cardiac problems and is especially harmful for children and older people.
People concerned about wood smoke pollution can call (877) 4NO-BURN or visit www.baaqmd.gov to file a complaint or get more information.

Naturally! But are they going to enforce this against homeless people having their bonfires? (or only us good, hardworking citizens)
The BAAQMD says the homeless can have all the fires they want because it’s their only source of heat!

What the pattern has been over the years. Apparently nobody here knows about China’s unusual cold weather. Yet it was even reported on MSM. Q: when was the last time you saw some skywriting? (Maybe we’ll see some Valentine’s Day). Seems though it’s done at an altitude that interferes with something else (bad) going on these days. So anything you disagree with comes from the left, eh?
85-90% of wintertime PM 2.5 comes from sources other than people heating their homes with wood.
So, even with zero people heating their homes with wood there will still be STAD’s and PM 2.5.
Definitely poor air quality out there today. My elderly neighbor is feeling it.
I believe that the BAAQMD has a wheel in their office that they spin
to decide on spare the air days.
As mentioned Spare the Air days does not include all of us. The homeless are exempt. I want to know why Chem trails are allowed on Spare the Air days also? Please I don’t want to hear how it’s just jet exhaust. Because it’s not. I have watched the planes crisscrossing across the sky’s spewing their concoctions.
Because chemtrails aren’t for preventing global warming but something more sinister instead. Chemtrails are down between 12-13,000 feet. Airlines emit water vapor from their jets and only product comtrails at higher altitudes like 30,000 feet plus and water vapor becomes ice crystals and evaporates about 1/2 mile or so behind the jet. That’s the science and it has been around for decades.
Can we all just agree that geoengineering is now commonplace? Spare the air is a farce.
