The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office has identified the pizza delivery driver who was shot and killed Wednesday in Oakley as he was taking a break from delivering pizzas.

Stewart Gabriel, 24, of Oakley was killed while parked in a car in front of his home.

The shooting was reported at 4:52 p.m. in the 1400 block of Rutherford Lane, where officers arrived to find the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said a vehicle pulled up alongside Gabriel’s car and someone inside shot the victim at close range, then fled west on Rutherford Lane before turning north onto Vintage Parkway, police said.

The victim’s mother unknowingly watched her son get shot, Police Chief Paul Beard said in a press release.

“There is absolutely zero excuse for what happened tonight. When you consider the victim’s family witnessed this act and when you take into account the time of year we are in, it makes this all that more sad,” Beard said.

A detailed suspect description was not immediately available in the case. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police dispatch at (925) 625-8060 or to contact Detective Dombrouski at (925) 325-6670 or dombrouski@ci.oakley.ca.us.

@FRANK…..We were warned 50+ years ago…..

There’s something about this story that sounds like there was an earlier altercation of some sort or, as is the case so often with murder, his assailant knew him. I’m sure it will be untangled. Just tragic to have a life ended so early and so violently.

El Cerrito is 42 miles away from Oakley.
Why would Diana Becton care about crime 42 miles away???

Why don’t we have DISTRICTING for DA the same way we were Forced to have for cities?

Both El Cerrito and Oakley are in Contra Costa County. Becton is the CoCo County DA. That’s why.

My question is, why do you bring up El Cerrito? I don’t see it mentioned in the story.

I think ANON was referring to her City of residence… It’s not El Cerrito, but El….. (Public Record) Which is maybe 30+ miles away. So, maybe a reference to: it wasn’t in her backyard, so who cares???

Regardless of where she lives, do you believe she cares about crime victims? Her agenda seems to be to keep perps free to roam the streets using the criminal justice reform and bail reform agendas as cover.

not in the least

It’s time Parents are also held accountable , for raising these evil monsters that have no morals or conscience,

sounds targeted, of course do not know for sure “time will tell” This does not mean he was a bad guy as seems like cutting someone off in traffic is a capitol offense lately only for them to follow you around and do this.
wild wild west all over again….civilization seems to have slipped. senseless.

Gang related?

Gabe’s family would like to know that as well. He was a family guy and there are zero indicators as to who did this or why, although nothing will ever make it make semse. It’s horrific what they’re enduring and the way his life was taken.

I’ve included the gofundme thats been organized to help give Gabriel a proper burial. In it you can read a bit about the kind of guy he was. Not just a pizza delivery guy.

The trouble is these parents aren’t around. So many of these kids were born out of wedlock with no dads. So they grow up angry young men. We’ve heard for years from feminists that they could raise children without a man…ends up simply not true: boys need strong men in their lives. My other take away from the story is that you never just sit in your car, anywhere. You are a target for robbery or car tracking. It’s a shame society’s gotten to this point… but you have all the government officials supporting the criminals rights above everyone else’s.

Women are like children, they hurt themselves. Feminists have been allowed to hurt society. “I don’t need no man to raise my child” was always such a cringy thing to hear. Top level stupidity.

I hope they find this ahole you killed his man. Do the same to him. Forget the book!
