The woman behind the wheel when a 5-year-old girl was killed in an alleged DUI crash Sunday on state Highway 4 in Martinez has been charged with five felonies, all with enhancements, including gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI.
A spokesperson for the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that 32-year-old Shakela Janey Dominick has been charged and is still in custody.
Dominick crashed her gray Honda CR-V into a tree just off westbound Highway 4 near Morello Avenue in Martinez at 12:06 a.m. Sunday, killing 5-year-old De’arri Shula of Richmond and critically injuring another child in the vehicle.
Dominick suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital, along with another child in the vehicle. Dominick was arrested at the hospital.
Dominick will be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez.

In all, very sad.
A few years back on Xmas Eve we were hit head on by a drunk driver. The woman who was driving had her child in the car. The child was hurt she was bleeding from her ears. The mother took off and left her child standing on the side of the road. Saddest thing I ever witnessed. May the child who lost her life rest in peace.
What did people before GoFundMe? I cannot understand how, in their time of grief, people will exploit another person’s death for money. It just comes across as greed.
So was the driver her mom? And, if so, why does the go fund me say that she will be especially missed by her mom when her mom killed her??? And, if not her mom, who was this person to her?
Yes, the driver is her Mom. Go Fund Me is organized by this poor excuse for a Mother’s Mother or the Grandma. Saw the balloons on the fence today; very sad. Hope the other child recovers.

Yet with other arrests, convictions and incarcerations some how there are inequities caused by racial bias, or economic disadvantage, etc ? ? ?
Are you for real?! Alcoholics come in all shapes , sizes, races and political affiliations.. as do the people angered by their drunk driving.
