The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.

Several shopping centers in Claycord, including the Clayton Valley shopping center and certain stores inside the Sunvalley Mall now have armed security guards.

QUESTION: Should all shopping centers and/or stores hire armed security guards?

Talk about it.

A better plan would be to send those who use a gun to prison. No parole, and screw this social justice S&&T. Make America Safe Again.

I’m actually going to say no; in most cases.
Most “Armed” security guards are poorly vetted and trained.
Not meaning they are not good people, but not properly set up for such…

21

They will vet better if the company is responsible for who they hire & their actions.

Given number of career criminals on our streets instead of prisons a single armed individual to cover the average shopping center is inadequate.
.
Need to cure the problem we’re experiencing at the source.
Stop electing DEMs and start electing law n order, put ’em in prison candidates.

Aren’t you tired of being lab rats for woke DEMs

You can always count on garbage by OG.

The problem sure must be those democrats. BTW OG call me surprised that you did not comment on the guy shooting at Police in Pleasant Hill last week. I’m sure you noted from his twitter feed that he was full MAGA.

Sorry, but Wisevoter is Left-Centered & is bias based on the issues they cover. I think you get your information from the same sources that NewScum uses for his debates and references. Very questionable due to poor sourcing and a lack of transparency…

Well Will
You’re certainly free to provide a link showing that these data are wrong……. I’m waiting.

A visible Police presence is the most effective deterrent to crime.

JWB,
.
For this particular post by Original G we should probably be looking at “murder rates” and “shooting injuries during the commission of a crime” and shouldn’t be looking at rates of “gun violence” which includes murders and shootings in the commission of a crime, but also includes justified shootings/deaths, accidental shootings/deaths, and suicides.

13
4

Feel free to post what you think we should look at…… I’m waiting
.
And It’s funny that you think people in Red States are more likely suicidal and/or commit accidental shootings……

2
12

JWB,
.
There you go again, making things up as always, when you were the one who posted “gun violence by state/gun death rates” which includes accidental firearm deaths and suicide by firearm deaths.
.
Funny, now you now want to play the blue state/red state game. We all know states can be considered “blue” or “purple” or “red,” yet in many cases these states have large “blue” urban cities, counties, and/or metro areas with high crime rates, high overall murder rates, high gun murder rates, and high non-fatal shooting rates, that can and do skew state results for “purple” and/or “red” states.
.
Amazing, weeks ago you posted skewed information on election results, the following week you posted national debt numbers by president which were calculated differently for President Biden, and now you’ve posted “gun violence” numbers which include suicides and accidental shooting deaths while responding to a post about crime. Every week you play the same games.

10
1

JWB,
.
Did you even notice that I didn’t agree or disagree with the states that you listed, just as I didn’t agree or disagree with the order that you listed those states, I disagreed with the numbers that you listed including suicides, justified shooting deaths, and accidental shooting deaths.
.
As you always do, you then made this a political argument by making this a “red” state and “blue” state argument. Even “blue” states like Maryland and Illinois are disproportionately higher on the list because of the gun crimes that take place in “deep blue” metro Baltimore and “deep blue” metro Chicago.
.
Again, as you always do when you can’t or don’t win an argument, you then go to name calling, which is why your last response was removed.

Now ya went and did it, by mentioning “gun violence”
poor little thing will be confused and posting for weeks.
.
Flew from “a single armed individual to cover the average shopping center is inadequate”
all the way to murder rates.
I’d engage, but am fresh outta crayons.

9
1

Wow that’s even weak sauce for OG. So when you wrote “a single armed individual to cover the average shopping center is inadequate” you meant multiple armed guards to protect what? Lip balm? Why would you need armed guards if you’re not protecting human life?
.
Nice try…..

1
13

It’s odd that the article you posted doesn’t even define what constitutes “gun violence”…. Violence on another person? Suicide? Law enforcment officers’ discharge of their weapon?
.
Your gal VP Harris recently stated that gun violence was the leading cause of death of “children”.
.
Her claim was slanted because her stats included 18- and 19-year olds which, in rational society, are legal adults.
.
Therefore, the statistics you posted should be taken with skepticism due to a flawed analysis.
.

12
1

JWB: Your study is bogus and biased. Here are some of the reasons why:

1) The study never defines what “gun violence” is. Their key metric seems to be gun deaths but isn’t a gun injury a kind of “gun violence” too?

2) Similarly another metric is “mass shootings” and yet this isn’t defined or transparently calculated. How do you get a half of a mass shooting, as in the case with CA stat of 8.5 mass shootings?

3) Another prominent metric they use is whether the state is Democratic or Republican. The implication being that this is a main factor in gun violence. But what might the data look like if it was based on income levels, for example? What would this data look like if the middle 30 states were factored int?

You are entitled to your anti-gun beliefs, but if you think that wisevoter doesn’t have an agenda, I got some oceanfront property to sell you.

Jwb knows this about statistics- you choose your source to support your biases. Look at the bias of jwb’s source…which AGAIN proves that anything jwb quotes is immediately suspect.

From mediabiasfactcheck.org

“We rate Wisevoter as Left-Center Biased based on the issues they cover. However, we rate them as Questionable due to poor sourcing and a lack of transparency.

Detailed Report

Questionable Reasoning: Lack of Transparency, Poor Sourcing
Bias Rating: LEFT-CENTER
Factual Reporting: MIXED
Country: USA
MBFC’s Country Freedom Rating: MOSTLY FREE
Media Type: Website
Traffic/Popularity: Medium Traffic
MBFC Credibility Rating: LOW CREDIBILITY

Jwb- you’re calling for others to disprove your claim; yet you use suspect data yourself. You’re a perfect example of someone being unable to understand statistics and take data solely at face value.

Learn to think for yourself, sonny….you’ve got a long ways to go to gain some critical thinking skills….and an even longer ways to go to gain an elementary understanding of statistics and set aside your biases.

And you can always count on jwb posting links to sites that support his opinions – not factual unbiased sites.

Jwb – learn about statistics and critical thinking before you make a complete a$$ of yourself. Anyone can prove anything, just by selecting the data set that supports your own beliefs.

Nust like the democrats claiming they “created “ all of these jobs… bs . That’s just recovering from Covid.

Never trust a democrat around money or statistics. Never.

.
Yes, certified and armed security guards with the authority to engage threats.
.
Double tap, always.

Yep this should de-incentivize the filth from stealing. They are selfish piles of excrement & if they knew that their life might end they wouldn’t do it. No sympathy for those that take advantage & terrorize the innocent. They made their choice and should have to pay the price. Forget incarceration it doesn’t work, firing squad plus charge the family for raising a POS.

We have sunk to a depth I never thought I would see. Seems we no longer know our butt from third base. The left has taken over every aspect of our lives and it took them years but eventually they took over. I’m not sure who would want to be a guard or a policeman in this messed up society. How hard up for a job would you have to be to become a guard. Risk your life or be betrayed by the law. Those of you who still have fight left in you better try to control this ship.

13
3

I agree. It is difficult to imagine anybody thinking that taking a job as an armed guard would be worth the risks involved. For one thing they might well be shot and killed on the job and for another if they do their job and unfortunately have to use deadly force are the courts going to be there and back them up?

I have serious doubts that the benefits would outweigh the risks if one chooses that as their vocation.

at this point, there is no point. They wouldn’t be able to use any type of force or threat to stop the illegal acts, they’re just useless window dressing. The courts have moved to protecting the rights of the perpetrators and not the public. If a security guard was to put a hand on a criminal or draw a weapon, that security guard risks his/her career, livelihood and possibly freedom.

I’m afraid we’ve moved too far off center to ever return.

The better option is allow CCW permits.

Let’s start by prosecuting every shop lifter. First timer get a hefty fine and a clear warning that “repeat” offenders WILL get jail time. Cannot pay, then community service. It is not about the money but learning to do the right thing.
Stores will run the numbers an figure out when an Arm Guard make sense or not. As the number of shop lifters goes down, so will the need for the Arm Guards.

I would require minimum of two partnered well trained guards. Not even the best cops would go solo into a situation. A single guard could easily get flanked or out gunned.

7
1

I won’t go to places that have armed guards all over the place. It makes me feel unsafe.

1
14

But the rampant crime & assaults make you feel safe? You feel safe if the bad guys have guns but not the good guys…that is some twisted logic

Most that steal from stores and Malls do not have guns. If security guards had guns, probably the thieves would bring guns as well, then we are in the wild west. As I wrote in my post, taser or mace would be a better options.

How do you know what most criminals carry during the commission of said crime you don’t. It is not the wild west to protect yourself or the community but you keep your tasers & mace hopefully you will never need to use them

We need armed guards to protect the businesses and the people who shop.

The government has failed to do its job.

Fire all the Soros placed DA’s. Build more prisons and make the confinement harsh.

Give no leniency to second offenders.

11
1

No, I don’t think so. As someone that witness stealing almost everyday and am sick of it, I don’t think an armed guard is the solution. Too many things can go wrong and innocent people are likely to get hurt as well, due to no fault of theirs. Perhaps mace or tasers would be a better option.

2
11

Innocent people are already being hurt assaulted murdered

Yes, but not that much in the stores.

Wrong the security guard at Pleasanton Home Depot was shot and murdered doing his job unarmed. An innocent unarmed bystander was shot & murdered at Sun Valley not too long ago that is just off the top of my head…

I didn’t say it didn’t happened. However, you are quoting 2 incidents, tragic as it might be, it is not where most people get shot and murdered.

Only if they are properly trained and have experience as a security guard – and this is not their first assignment – and are authorized to intervene with shoplifters in progress & apprehension. As others said – more than one would be needed for say – Sun Valley Mall or Broadway Plaza. Say 3? you’re looking at probably $600K including insurance – have shopping center pay half and the respective city pay half as tax revenue should increase – give it a trial – if no improvement, nothing lost – imho

2
1

Only if they are able to use the arms they have. A well armed security guard, fully trained, is still not much of a deterrent if it is known they are not allowed to use those arms. Alternatively, if it is understood they are able to use their arms when they deem necessary, that would be a great deterrent.

4
1

I don’t really know how effective they would be. We’ve been dealing with this issue for years.

I remember 30 years ago I was shopping at the corner market and suddenly this 9-10 year old stole a toothbrush. The store manager alerted the security guard who couldn’t keep up with the kid and lost him for good.

Days later it was learned this same kid tortured some middle aged men who had come over to fix the family water heater.

And this was Chicago, you know how that place is.

4
2

Ah yes Chicago, came across this website a few years back researching for a post.
Has interesting info about violence in Chicago
https://heyjackass.com/

If there is no threat of incarceration,
there is no deterrence to criminal behavior

13

Absolutely not. If shooting starts somewhere I’m at, I don’t need another idiot adding to the chaos with well meant, but poorly aimed gunfire. No way.

2
6

I’m in total agreement with you, however unusual that might be. If it is known that there are armed security guards on a location those that steal might be more likely to bring a gun as well. Most of the time, as it is now, they just crab what is close to the door and run out.

Range fees and ammo are too expensive for anyone to get as much practice as needed to be a good shot anymore & combined with the big adrenaline rush one is bound to have during a gunfight, bullets might wind up anywhere!
I’m giving my loved ones Kevlar for Christmas!

Lol jwb, Atticux, henne n wc pearl clutch. I’d love to see all these ppl and what their physical image is. It’s well-known that people that believe in leftism usually have weak physical appearances. There’s a video called spiteful mutants you guys should check it out. It’s on YouTube. I think the guys name is the jolly heretic I don’t really like him much. He talks pretty fast and is English, but the video really describes most of these people well enough. There’s more in-depth videos out there on the mind of a leftist. You guys should check them out it’s really mind-boggling. I like the CCW idea I’m also for armed guards. Unlike the people I mentioned above, I live in reality the only way you can stop evil is with force not clawless words, platitudes, and false statistics.

If you read this blog on a regular basis you will know that Atticus Trax is not a liberal, at least on most issue. His point about guns in the stores and malls are common sense. As for a weak appearance I probably fit that describtion since I’m a woman in my seventies. Trying to figure someone’s political leanings based on their apperance seems to fly in the face of reality.

1
1

Does it? I think not just take a look around especially here in the east bay.

And you can tell someone’s political leanings based in appearence. I don’t even know why I’m replying, you comment have no basis in reality. My best friend that passed away more then 3 years ago, was very, very conservative, he looked very weak the past few years of his life.

Yeah you actually can tell a person’s political leanings by looking them 9 out of ten times. I understand you can’t comprehend. Of course someone old about to die is gonna look weak lol cmon now. Also r and k selective theory applies as well when observing human species. It’s ok that your an R type the world has a place for you but leading and making big decisions should absolutely be up to k types
