Last Saturday I ate some charred brussel sprouts, sprinkled with freshly grated cheese. Surprisingly very yummy.

I love turkey and dressing. I don’t know why it isn’t served more frequently than annually. II would hate chicken liver in the stuffing or dressing.

I buy at least one Butterball to store in the freezer, to get my turkey fix in July.

I make turkey dinners often.
Roast a breast portion or buy a pound of roast turkey in the deli & have them slice it a bit thicker than usual and make open face hot turkey sandwiches w/ mashed potatoes, peas & gravy, easy meal. Oh… and I hate okra.

Beanzy November 23, 2023 - 10:06 AM - 10:06 AM

When I worked in San Francisco, every so often I’d buy the turkey blueplate special at the Max’s near Moscone Center along with bread pudding topped with whiskey sauce. Oh, so scrumptiously yummy.

@S….. I’d give a left male organ for some of Granny’s homemade mince meat pie. When I started working in a grocery store in the early 70s there was real deal mince meat pie filling in a jar, I don’t remember the brand but I’d snack on it with a spoon strait out of the jar.

I believe the Mince Meat is NONE SUCH, I bought it last year in a jar at Lunardi’s, I love a piece of double crust MM pie.

@BABS….Yep, looked it up after my comment.

I like most of the foods commonly prepared for Thanksgiving. One, however, is horrible. Years ago, an army buddy invited me to have Thanksgiving dinner with his parents in Boston. Everything was tasty, including the oyster dressing. Unfortunately, I soon had to head for the bathroom to upchuck the meal. It was most embarrassing, but it became clear that the oyster dressing was the problem. Some years later, I discovered that scallops affected me the same way. Other than those items, pile my plate high.

If any of you have seen “Diary of a Mad Housewife” with Richard Benjamin and Carrie Snodgress, she make a stuffing with oysters for thanksgiving, at her husbands request, however when they children realize it is oyster they spit it out, at least one of the girls do.

Love my grandma’s recipe of mashed yellow turnips (rutabaga) topped with bacon bits. My late godfather used to call it ‘hog food’, but ooohhh so good. In fact, for years, the famed Union Square Cafe in NYC served it with crispy shallots. I was related by marriage to the chef there, so I told him about the bacon and he made it like that for me once for my birthday. When my cake with a candle came out, there was a note in chocolate sauce that read, “Happy Birthday, Turnip Lover”. In terms of what I don’t like (hate is too strong a word), it’s cranberry sauce.

A friend made a southern style Ruta… with a touch of red wine vinegar; It was amazing.
.
No, there is not a hope for me with the Yam or Sweet Tater……….

Whenever someone mentions Rutabaga it reminds me of the song “Call Any Vegetable”.

Foods I love and the foods I hate are the same no matter what day it is. Or did I misunderstand the question?

10 lbs seems excessive OG, but you have your head in the game, and that’s what matters. 🦃 🥔

Original G November 22, 2023 - 10:34 PM - 10:34 PM

Well, first a heaping bowl is mashed potatoes and gravy, then plate of turkey and mashed potatoes.
3 am fridge raid, microwaved MP and butter. Breakfast is eggs, sausage and fried MP patties with peppers and onion mixed in. Then again am 70+ and still have NO adult supervision.

nytemuvr November 23, 2023 - 1:23 PM - 1:23 PM

@ORIGINAL G..….Fried mashed potato patties with sorghum syrup….takes me way back….mmmmm!

Jeff (the other one) November 22, 2023 - 5:06 PM - 5:06 PM

Love turkey
Hate nothing we eat. Can’t think of anything I would hate, love/like it all.

Awoooo November 22, 2023 - 7:35 PM - 7:35 PM

Love love love Sweet potato pie or pumpkin pie!
I dislike ambrosia salad or green bean casserole

Hanne Jeppesen November 22, 2023 - 10:28 PM - 10:28 PM

Love almost everything about the Thanksgiving meal, but then I’m the cook and have been for many years, except for a few years after my daughter got married and they still lived in the Bay Area, so I only make what I like. I don’t like anything with pumpkin. For dessert when I cook for company or friends I either made an egg nog cream pie, always a big hit, or an upside down cranberry pie, served with whipped cream.

nytemuvr November 23, 2023 - 1:31 PM - 1:31 PM

@HANNE JEPPESEN…. I’ve never had egg nog cream pie, sounds tasty. I dialed in a egg nog recipe a few years ago to suit my tastes. Time to dig that recipe out since Berkeley Farms egg nog is so damn expensive now, when I can find it. I actually like my homemade better anyway.

Hanne Jeppesen November 24, 2023 - 12:19 AM - 12:19 AM

The egg nog cream pie is sinful. It is from a recipe in Gourmet Magazine 1975, it was the first Gourmet Magazine I bought (I still have tons of them, although I have thrown many out)and it was the first Thanksgiving dinner I cooked as a married women. A girl friend helped, we cooked almost everything from that Thanksgiving Menu. The eggnog pie is made from stracth. Pecan Crust, then the eggnoog mousse, made with lots of cream, egg, rum and bourbon, then topped with whipped cream and shaved dark chocolate.
