I’m more of a dog person, but it’s been over 25 years since we’ve had one.
But the best pet we had was a stray kitten that adopted us and had her for 18 years.
Her name was Sage, and she passed away in 2017.
Our dog Riley was the Best & Dearest Dog ever , He was a Cocker – Poodle mix . He was with us for just under 19 wonderful years. We miss him dearly.

Other than farm animals I have only had dogs and every one was special. I did get one from a pound once and he was crazy. He tore up the garden and chewed everything in sight. Could be we didn’t do enough to help him and eventually I had to take him back to the pound. I have guilty feelings about that still. Almost fifty years ago.
A very difficult question to answer! I think about all of them from the ones that have gained their Angel wings to the ones that are still with me, dogs, cats, rats, rabbits, goats, chickens and horses. If I were to pick the critters I connected with on so many levels and ways, that changed my life for the better and I learned to be a better person from, my 2 Golden Retrieves Kirby and Murphy, Dachshund/Scooter, Percheron horse/Beauty, 13 special cats, 2 Hens and a Rooster that would come in the house through the doggie door an walk into the house sit on my shoulder and watch baseball games with me. Critters are unconditional love.

I’ve had dogs and cats in my lifetime. The smartest dog was a German Shepherd I had when my daughter was born. She would sleep under her crib and keep watch over her. The cat I have now is a big, affectionate and intelligent Savannah cat. When she was a kitten, she was easy to train and learned quickly not to scratch at the furniture and drapes. I named her Lefty, because she seems to be left pawed, using her left paw when she plays and eats. Standing on her hind legs, she is close to three feet tall, and weighs 23 pounds. When I take her out, people are always asking about her because she resembles a small cheetah. Actually, Savannah’s are a crossbreed between a serval and domestic cat.

It’s impossible to say. I loved them all, dog and cats alike. It was heart reaching to have to say “goodbye” when the time came. I miss every one of them and look forward to seeing them all, again, someday.
A boxer named Smokey. Loyal, smart, fun, protective, and gave my family love, just a beautiful animal. I will always remember and love him…

We just lost our great little pup of almost 16 years, Bootstrap, a couple weeks ago. He was such a great dog, and definitely left his paw prints on all of our hearts. Before him, was our rottie Godzilla, also such a great dog, also left his paw prints on our hearts. I cannot say one was better than the other, can’t even think it. Gotta stop, getting emotional….

Mandy, Best Dog in the World. She was a mind reader, and I could just think about taking her for a walk, without doing a single thing to give it away, and she would suddenly appear in front of me with her leash in her mouth. There will never be another one like her.

I’ve had just about every type of animal. From cats & dogs, horses, pigs & goats to turtles and a gecko. The animals who have taken the biggest part of my heart when they crossed the Rainbow Bridge, were my ferrets. My first one was named Pocket, cuz he was so tiny he fit in my pocket. He was the best ferret I had. It was a long time after him, til I could get any more. Then I got three rescues, Fred, Hawley and Boo. Ferrets only live 6 to 7 years on average. After I lost Fred, I only had one other, Kino. When I fractured my pelvis, I wasn’t able to care for him properly and I gave him to close friend. I still mourned him when he died.

Ferrets are a kick in the Butt!
Our daughter had two ferrets and an albino hedgehog.
The ferrets were litter trained, loved to hide little items, and the war dance(s), …. well, hilarious!
Sonic the hedgehog was very tame and loved to cuddle.
Even the Veterinarian could handle him with her bare hands.

I had a Demon for a few years. Impossible to train, smelled terrible and kept stealing our neighbors souls so I had to get rid of it.
47 pound English bull terrier named Darci. Best dog I’ve ever owned. That was when I was in my 20s. Have not earned another dog since. I have a Ragdoll Cat now. Best cat you could ever ask for. They’re all like that apparently. They just love everyone and they’re super friendly. That’s why they cost what they do. Things for sure, every animal I’ve ever gotten was from a breeder. I don’t play games with animal shelters or rescues or you have no idea what you’re going to get.

After years of cats, rats, and guinea pigs I would say my Spaniel mix adopted from ARF almost four years ago is more than a pet. He is my best bud. We are traveling through this crazy life together one day at a time. He’s only five, but when the time comes that he is old and ready to go, I will be a mess.

Besides my kids? Our Green Cheek Conure Parrot. He’s such a sweet bird. Not messy, noisy likes to give cuddles in the morning. He sits on my daughter’s shoulder when she studies.
That’s a great name for a Python. I “snake sat” for a Burmese Python years ago. The hardest part was introducing the mice to their impending demise. Everyone’s gotta eat.

I hate to compare animals, it’s like comparing nature. I grew up with cats, always had one and often 2. Of course when I came to the states I could not have a pet, especially when I was single living in New York City.
My exhusband and I got married in Denmark, he flew back to the states after our honeymoon I stayed a little longer to spend time with family. We were going to live in Milwaukee. On the way back I stopped in New York to visit my Danish girl friend. Someone had abandend a tiny kitten in her apartment buildings basement. I took the kitten got a carrier and flew to Milwaukee with him. He grew to be 19 pounds and lived 16 years. When my daughter was born, friends, when they came to see us would ask is the baby bigger than the cat.
When my daughter and I lived in Foster City, a neighborhood cat would come around in the morning and walk along my daughter part of her way to school (we lived in a townhouse complex) then one day they owners of the kitty came and asked if we would take her in, they were moving back to England and did not want her to spend 6 months in quarantine. We said yes, it was almost like she knew, we open the patio door, she came in jumped on the cough next to me and made herself at home. She was a very pretty orange with tiger stripes. She was probably my favorite I really bonded with her. Later we also took in my daughters cat she had at her dads house, because when he remarried, his wife was allergic to cats (or just didn’t like them, not sure, she had a dog) she too was a very cute kitty, calico very different personality than my orange kitty, Ginger, they never got along even though they lived together for several years. My orange kitty lived to be 19 years old. Still miss her.

Of all I’ve had, dogs and cats, the precious cat I have now is I consider the best. Why? Because it was just after the pandemic and the neighbors behind moved. Suddenly, this little gray cat with a had hanging pink flea collar was roaming the yard.
I gave it three weeks, still roaming from under my front deck to back. I said that’s it, put dry food in a container and tapped my leg she came to me nudged me and ate.
Neen with me three years. Looks at me with appreciation and love every day.
