Pittsburg City Council To Consider Funding More Surveillance Cameras For Police

Pittsburg police are asking the city council to allocate funds for additional surveillance cameras.

If approved at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Nov. 20, the Pittsburg Police Department will use a $37,029 federal grant to cover most of the installation. Additionally, the installation of an outdoor security camera for apartment may help deter various criminal activities and even help the police investigate and solve crimes. You may contact the experts from sites like https://www.ascsecurity.com.au/ if you need professional security camera installation services.

The additional cameras would increase the city’s existing camera network and “keep up with the city of Pittsburg’s geographical growth and expansion,” Police Chief Steve Albanese said in a report.

The camera network, developed over the last 15 years, has “proved to be a valuable tool in safeguarding the residents of Pittsburg through supplementing criminal investigation efforts as well as serving as a deterrent to criminal activity,” he said.

The grant comes from the Justice Department’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Program. It commemorates Officer Edward R. Byrne, who was 22 when he was shot to death by members of a New York City street gang who had been ordered to kill a police officer — any police officer.

The City Council meeting will take place Nov. 20, at 7 p.m., at the City Hall Council Chambers, 65 Civic Ave., Pittsburg.

We are getting more license plate reading cameras, but criminals are still getting around it by either covering up their plates, or stealing plates to do their crimes with…and worse yet steeling cars and doing the crimes with them before the owners even know their car is missing!
We really need to start locking up these criminals!

While it’s always nice to have video of your stuff getting ripped off or of you getting mugged, do these really deter anything? I wonder.

Just curious… what is the point of investing all this money in cameras, if we do not hold criminals accountable for breaking the laws?

Cameras? They’ll just get stolen.

The surveillance state is growing larger all of the time and is being sold to us as safety measures and of course who can resist that line of thinking? I never thought I’d see times like these.

Yeah, this is a waste since the follow- up should be to use the footage to prosecute crimes and punish criminals. We don’t do that hee and they are certainly not going to do that in Pittsburg. So, what is the point?

How much extra does it cost to maintain the cameras and store/access the footage?

If it’s good enough for Tiburon and Belvedere,
it’s good enough for me! If it’s helpful aiding law enforcement, it works for me.
