Contra Costa County is looking for candidates to fill out the unexpired three-year term of Treasurer-Tax Collector Russell Watts.
Watts, who has served as the elected treasurer-tax collector for 13 years, is retiring at the end of December. His term expires on Jan. 4, 2027.
The treasurer-tax collector is required to be a registered voter of Contra Costa County at the time of appointment by the Board of Supervisors.
Applicants must have served in a senior financial management position in a county, city, or other public agency dealing with similar financial responsibilities for at least three years; be a certified public accountant, and be a chartered financial analyst, among other qualifications.
“The ideal candidate will also possess a value system that engenders trust and confidence and embodies a commitment to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion,” the county said in a press release.
To make sure the county has financial stability, the supporting systems are working correctly, they collect everything owned to them and make accurate projections the candidate must “embodies a commitment to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion” ?
.
“The ideal candidate …. embodies a commitment to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.”
.
TRANSLATION:
.
The ideal candidate must support institutionalized racism.”
.
It is a thankless job. Best wished to the successful candidate.
Glad that a job requirement is the embodiment of commitment to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.
.
The best candidate will be “qualified” based on Race, Gender, Pronoun. Experience, knowledge of the job and a commitment to the best legal interests and welfare of the entire population is of little importance. (major freakin’ eyeroll)
Have we had enough yet?
I feel like I have been writing checks to him for longer than thirteen years.
Watts? I have been writing checks to Alfred P. Lomeli but now see that I missed the memo. RIP Mr. Lomeli.
I prefer fiscal prudence over a DEI agenda for a treasurer and tax collector.
… probably most of us on CC could do the job…. it is thankless though
In a just society, no tax collectors would live long enough to retire. ( Just a joke FBI, just a joke.)
He, She, They, Them that checks the most boxes wins. But the biggest check might sway the panel.
It seems most government toadies can’t use the restroom without first mentioning equity, diversity, and inclusion. I used to think it was just pandering.
Perhaps there are other forces at work. Maybe Microsoft issued Word software dictates all documents must reference equity, diversity, and inclusion as often as possible. That’s probably it.
