Pick One:
.
A) Pickled Cod
B) Pickled Salmon
C) Yuck

I’m going with C). There are much better ways to prepare either.
And I am never, ever, doing Lutefisk again!

I had a grandfather who loved Lutefisk and buttermilk. (There are two YUCKS right there)

I’d never yuck buttermilk.
I won’t drink it, but my wife uses it to make biscuits, cornbread, etc.

..….I won’t drink it either, just for cooking like your wife. It’s great for soaking chicken livers in before frying them.

The yuck was for drinking buttermilk, not for cooking. My mom made the absolute best buttermilk pancakes in the world. Guess I should have been clear.

Lutefisk is vile, ugh. Buttermilk is very common in Denmark, served different ways, can be used just like milk with cereal. I like it that way in the summer, I add a little lemon juice and sugar. Also the Danes like it as kind of a dessert soup in the summer, you add a raw egg yolk, (about 1 yolk per one or two cups) then lemon slices and sugar. Or just lemon juice and sugar to taste, then make a merinque (beat egg white stiff with powdered sugar). Or some other toppings like bread cubes that have been fried in butter and sugar and perhaps a little cinnamon.

@ S ~
Oh, I’m going with C.
Smoked Salmon would be more my likings.

C. Only thing that should be pickled is pickles.

@S
It’s the first time I ever gave you a downvote, but I just don’t like pickled anything.

Never had either, that I am aware of. I would assume I would prefer cod (Atlantic or ling, I am assuming, not black), but prefer just the fish without being pickled.

Change “yuck” to “barf”

C) Yuck… I tried pickled pigs feet once, that was one of the biggest yucks ever!

@DAWG….Those and pickled eggs in gallon jars were “bar food” years ago. I never got drunk enough to eat either.

Pickled pigs feet is a stable of what is a stable of what is considered farm cooking, France, Germany, Denmark other countries. My mother cooked a cabbage dish with pigs feet, I ate the cabbage, but not the pigs feet. The cabbage was cooked very slowly and it turned brown, I’m not sure why I think some kind of broth was added and perhaps some coloring that was also used to make gravy brown.

Love pickled pigs feet (mom used to make and can them feels like eons ago) but not weirder than chicken feet in Chinese restaurants “that one is a little rough for me” each to their own

Ate pickled pigs feet as a child, outside playing snack. Tried them again as an adult and didn’t care for them.

Yep, a big ol’ “C” on this one. I just cant bring myself to the raw stuff: Ceviche, Sushi, Tartare, and such. Yes, I know the acid in the lime ‘cooks’ the Shrimp, but nope…….
This was the topic ’cause a friend pickled some cod and offered. I had to turn it down.
.
So, no offense to the downed thumb, CYN…
.
NYTEM… I make Pickled Eggs often. I experiment with different spices and such….
DEE-Li-CEEIOUS

@S….When I worked in the grocery store in the 70s/80s we had pickled herring in sour cream in the deli section, it came in a jar. As much as I like fish I could never bring myself to give it a taste. Hanne might know if that’s some kind of delicacy from her part of the world.

Try “Kippered Herring” (or “Kipper Snacks”) as they are commonly known. NOM!

@DR. JELLYFINGER….I like smoked salmon(lox), it’s one of my “treats” when I go shopping. I’m sure I’d like smoked herring, haven’t seen any in the stores I frequent.

NYTEMUVR…You’ll find kipper herring in the tuna section. It’s usually on the shelf above the tuna, with the sardines.

I love kippered herring. I eat a tin of them with cheese and crackers. Yum yum.

Nyte, I’m trying to reply to you, but my comment does not get posted. Not sure why, nothing controversial about it, unless someone don’t like herring.

I’m with the Sweet Gherkins only crowd.

Winston Churchill had a delightful way of answering his critics. Here are a few of his more colorful put downs.

Winston Churchill Quoted:

“If I were married to you, I’d drink it.”

Responding to a comment from Nancy Astor, who said to Churchill: “If I were married to you, I’d put poison in your coffee.”

https://shorturl.at/EIX29

Another of the Lady Astor and Churchill quotes: At a dinner party he asked her if she would sleep with him for 5 million pounds, she answered “I suppose so”, he then asked her if she would sleep with him for 5 pounds, she answered “Of course not, what kind of women do you think I am”, he answer “We already established that, now we are just discussing the price”.

Pick none:
A) Puppies, but a breed you don’t like.
B) Kittens, but fifteen of them. With fleas.
C) Babies, but they smell like cabbage and cigarettes.
D) Haagen Dazs, but your least favorite flavor. And kinda melted.

Blend all four and I’ll taste it.

1
2

A) I don’t want a puppy, too much trouble to house break them.

B) I already have a cat, she doesn’t have any fleas, and kittens are too rambunctious.

C) Babies are only cute when they belong to somebody else.

D) So I will go with Häagen-Dazs…. I like my ice cream kinda melted, and my least favorite flavor is strawberry, but I can tolerate it.

6
1

D) and it’s the same as Dawg’s

I’ll take A, B, and D any way they come. C are cute, even if smelly, but I’m glad they’re not mine.

Anybody else sick & tired of the B.M.O. Commercial that seems to be on constantly ??

BMO: Bank of Montreal. Yes, a Canadian bank bought out Bank of the West and others.
Digital currency coming next.
What could go wrong with that?

Noooooooooooooo! I had been with BOW since it was Security National Bank run by Pete Stark in the ‘60s with very few banking side trips. I was really happy with them until they suddenly wouldn’t take a POD designation on my accounts for me one day. The woman who helped me said she took care of it, but it wasn’t showing up on my statement. When I went back to straighten it out, she got mad at me. In fact, she had lied to me about changing it and I lost complete confidence with a bank that will lie to you. zig had hoped to return there soon because their statements were easy to read, and I always balanced! Made me feel good

Can’t say I have ever heard of B.M.O.; El jefe….. Only from your post yesterday…
Just got pack from a drive on I-80 to Pederick’s Produce in Dixon….
Saw billboards for B.M.O. in each direction…

Here’s some sage advice for you RUNDOG…

“The Three Stooges” disgust me!

What a great World Series so far. I thought a Rangers D-Backs series was gonna be a yawn, but there’s some big league ball getting played. God Bless America! ⚾️🇺🇸

OK…. I watched * listened to the whole thing, understood all (or most ) of it it and now I’m thinking this is it! The limit of my understanding of the modern world. In any case I’m stopping here.

What is with the coverings over all the storm drains. Is it because of the rats or racoons?

I heard that the wild animals in the area use them as freeways, migrating to new areas they haven’t “hunted out,” yet. Especially since coyotes and mountain lions are beginning to inhabit suburban areas, They are a threat to our domesticated animals including cats and dogs.

Just came across this site, thought it worth sharing.

@ORIGINAL G..….I have a couple of Kodachrome slides my Dad took of the outside of the Sutro Baths from the early 60s. Pretty spectacular inside.

When I was a kid, we would go ice skating at Sutro’s and visit the museum. I remember when it burned down.

I was wondering if any of you had ever visited Mount Fuji. I’m thinking about a spring trip and I’m reading about the Five Lakes. And the hot springs. Anyone been? Have any advice, tips, or what have you? I get it’s crazy expensive, but besides that?

Mid-Week Pick One:
.
A) Vintage Bell & Howell Home Movie Projector
B) Vintage Eastman Kodak Home Movie Projector
C) Last thing I wanna do is watch your old home movies !
🙂

A. Ours was a Bell and Howell, I think.

@S
Growing up, we definitely had a movie projector (I remember small film reels and slides) but I don’t remember the brand. Oh man, I’d love to watch those old things again but they’re long gone. Nice mid-weeker.

“B”
It is a “Brownie 500 Movie Projector; A Product of Kodak”
Still have original box. It runs well too.
🙂
.
Okay….. Get your “Tasters” set for tonight’s Whatever; Pick One….
Actually, I may not post til the morning…… We’ll see how it goes……
🙂

Do you have and use an ATM card ? ? ?
https://tinyurl.com/bdfwahex

No, I don’t use a debit card for anything, only credit cards for all purchases and bill paying. I don’t have a debit card, only ATM cards, for any personal withdrawals, not purchases. Credit card use generates cash back and/or valuable points, which can be used for free flights and hotel stays. And, for those who claim credit cards charge too much interest, don’t spend more than you can afford to repay, and always pay your balance on time. Spending discipline is the key. I don’t pay banks, they pay me.
