Book reports: Orphans of the Sky, Robert A. Heinlein, 1951 & 1963,Ship is the world. It is a few miles long and big enough to have several villages. Much knowledge, history, and information was lost in a the mutiny sometime in the second or third generation. It has now been untold generations later that the story unfolds. Normal live in the weight sections at the bottom and mutants live in the almost weightless sections near the top. This one seems intended for the late teen/young adult. It’s good reading for all actually. Good eating… er.. good reading.

Needle, Hal Clement, 1949. So how do you find a needle in the haystack? And if the needle is an alien that can invade anyone/anything and just look like another part of the haystack? Two aliens, one a criminal murder, the other an officer of their laws. Both, in separate small ships land near a Pacific island that is used to grow plants that can be converted into oil. Hunter, the officer, moves into a teen boy just before he returns to school in the main land. Part of the story is them learning about each other. They return to the island because that is the boy’s home. The rest of the story is how to search for and find the criminal alien who is hiding in one of the population. Have fun trying to figure that one out before the end.

Who will watch tomorrow’s partial solar eclipse ? Have any of you watched a full solar eclipse? If yes, when and where? What is your favorite astronomical event ?

Watched a solar eclipse sometime in the late ‘80s — early ‘90s. Watched all of it from beginning to end — on the patio — with some sort of viewing device suggested in the newspapers. The “ring” was especially interesting to see. It was amazing to see how everything darkened because of it, but it was more like just a very, dark and cloudy day.

The eclipse is a disappointment due to the cloud cover.
It’s a little darker tho.

Why was last week’s school shooting threat at DVMS not covered by this site?

I can’t find this anywhere. Do you have any details?

Every time I see a nondescript something-or-other laying near the guard rails on the freeway, I can’t help but think somebody dumped a body. Never used to even imagine anyone would do something like that, but it seems things have changed. Seems like it started when we had a lot of hit-and-runs. I can’t imagine someone not stoping to render aid. In high school, I had a friend I would go with to remove dogs that had been hit to side of the road — because it was a living thing and out of respect it deserved to be treated as such. That’s how much people cared back then.

Pick One:
.
A) Hot Sauce on Scrambled Eggs
B) Ketchup on Scrambled Eggs
C) Simplicity is Best

C most of the time. A if I’m in the mood, and Tabasco is still my favorite.

A) Helps digestion. Not just hot sauce but salsa. Smokey chipolte is good.

I do my own fire roasted Anaheim Chiles from my garden.
They make for a great omelette with Monterey Jack Cheese.
Not too spicy either.

A or C.

@S
B)
A little ketchup on scrambled eggs is terrific.

Both A&B plus cheese scrambled! Yum!

Simplicity is best, ketchup on my hot sauce….but I kid. Eggs, from the shell, to the pan, to my gullet, no salt, no herbs, nothing…exquisite.

B. With a side of Tater Tots. Obviously.

Love me some hot sauce on scrambled eggs. This morning, included a tablespoon of half and half and sliced green onions in the eggs mixture. In a separate pan, sautéed diced red bell pepper and red onion in olive oil. The trusty ole cast iron skillet makes the best pan-fried potatoes consistently. Salt and pepper on everything. Now to continue reading Fire Weather: A True Story from A Hotter World. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, and Go Niners!

“B” Please

C – always.

C, I sometimes like mild green chili peppers with my scrambled eggs. Often when i make scrambled eggs I like to add the greens of green onions, also mushroom. Scrambled eggs are easier and faster to make than an omelet, but if I have time I make a mushroom omelet, usually with cheddar cheese or goat cheese. Also an aspergus omelet with goat cheese is very good.

@ “S” It’s B for me!

C) Simplicity is Best — maybe some salt and definitely some pepper. A side of bacon doesn’t hurt, either. 🌅

And home made hashbrowns…. I’ll be damned if I’m spending $7 a bag for the frozen stuff!

@Dr.Jelly
Do you not place a value on the amount of time you would spend, grating a batch of spuds, after first going to the store to buy those same spuds? And maybe risking a digital injury in the process of grating? Then there’s the cleanup after the grating, and the resultant waste of water. I’d buy 2-3 packs while on sale, store them in the freezer, and congratulate myself on my cost saving each time I used some.

Jelly, Ore Ida Tater Tots. Baked. Just crush them for hashed browns. $5 a bag. I try to help.

Home made hashbrowns fried in butter! 🥔

Willow Pass Road to be stripped and re-paved this week…!!
I attribute this to ‘Divine Intervention’. Nothing less….

Why not a Welsh Plaid? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

What a beautiful day. Just incredible.Slept great, weather was fantastic, shot great this morning, making money on high interest rates, got tater tots in the oven, and baseball playoffs tonight. Couldn’t wipe the smile off my face with a 2X4.
And I ask you not attempt to do so. 😎
Go Rangers! ⚾️🇺🇸

There are Jews who support Israel. There are Jews who support Palestine, namely the Jewish Voice and the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

There are Palestinians who support Palestine. There are no Palestinians who support Israel.

What does that tell you? Think about it.

You may have clicked on the wrong heading sir. And you may have one eye closed. Metaphorically speaking. One easily corrected.

Monday Stuff:
I’ve been a hardcore Met’s fan for 51 years. I despise the Phillies far far more than any Giant’s fan despises the skeevy Dodgers. Or so I tell myself.
Compound interest is immoral and probably should be illegal. Unless I can earn it somehow. And I can’t.
Mark Whalberg is a terrible actor and keeps getting way with it.
If Rob Manford’s ghost runners are acceptable in extra innings during the regular season, why not in the post season? Because they’re never acceptable is why.
The Raiders suck. Even if somehow they win. I like that.
All the vegetables I like raw are supposed to me more nutritious if cooked. Bite me.
Speaking of fruits and vegetables, if you think your clean your produce enough before you eat it, you’re probably half way there. What the hell?
Can you rent grand children? I want to spoil some little pluckers.
I love F1 racing for the same reason most Americans don’t care for it. The utter lack of competitiveness when a team finds the right combination of car, driver and strategy.
I’m going to take some vacation this fall up north and walk on the beaches up there in foul weather in an attempt to conquer my fear of the ocean. I will likely run and make undignified noise at the first sign of trouble though. I know me. Gonna do it though. And at night for extra terror.
You’d have no way of knowing gas was almost $6 a gallon by how people drive. Myself included.

I’m going to find a stranger this week and do something nice, even if it’s just a meaningless gesture. Stuff like that matters.

I didn’t used to wash my Romaine until one day I discovered why it is important to do that. I won’t go into details!

Who else here cannot stand what they have done to Concord boulevard? They’ve made the traffic even worse than it was now it backs up in both directions at all hours .Come on City why are you guys going back in time ? The city originally widened Concord boulevard 35+ years ago because the traffic was getting bad well now there’s more people than ever and you decide to put it back to one lane that’s idiotic in my opinion. From down by the BART tracks up to l Concord high School. Plus the lanes swerve back and forth , it just doesn’t seem right and to put the bike Lanes in between the turning Lanes and the straight Lane ? I’ve yet to see more than two people use the bike lane because no one feels comfortable riding in between the cars like that I know I wouldn’t I’d rather use a sidewalk even though I know you’re not supposed to but better than getting hit by a car. I’m just dreading to see what they do to Willow pass road now. Are they going to make that one lane also? In my opinion I think they’re trying to force everybody to get electric bicycles or cars. They call it being green but no one ever talks about how much pollution it causes to make the batteries and getting rid of them when they’re no longer good It takes 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel to mine enough lithium to make one car battery for an electric car. That doesn’t sound too green to me. I guarantee if we had a strip mine that produced lithium for car batteries in Concord or nearby people would feel different about electric cars if they knew the process that it takes to make them.

They ruined Concord Blvd when they tore out the Walnut orchards and built houses.

Mid-Week Pick One:
.
A) Channel Lock
B) Pipe Wrench
C) y’all need a Bigger Hammer

D) Crescent Hammer

Interesting; or not….
.
All growing up; when Dad or Mom ask me to go get the “Crescent Wrench, I new to get the adjustable wrench.
I didn’t realize that Crescent was a brand until I got an adjustable wrench that had the word “Craftsman” on it….
.
I still call it a Crescent Wrench..

@S… It’s was the same with a “SkillSaw” and a “SawsAll” for me along with a Crescent wrench and a pair of Channel Locks.

Wow! That’s a tough one! I can’t get by without A and B … so, I guess what I really need is C.

Even after all these many, many years, I still remember a sign posted in my high school auto shop class;
—–>If the bolt don’t fit, get a bigger hammer.
And calling all adjustable wrenches Crescent wrenches is like calling all tissues in a box Kleenex. They’ve become generic names.

@S….A, B and C are all the tools you need to work on or rebuild a pre-’82 HD Shovelhead and older.
