Yes
.
yet…. I often help a friend with grocery shopping in Vallejo; not the nicest place by any means….
I noticed last weekend that FOOTLOCKER and168 Grocery Store are moving into empty storefronts…. I think they are taking a risk, but time will tell I guess.

Absolutely. Big name stores throughout the Bay Area that can afford to hire security (in name only) are throwing in the towel, the mom and pop businesses that are struggling to even operate can’t afford to hire security. In either case they are both forbidden from enforcing any policy. In the rare case that someone is caught, it’s well known that the person arrested is free and back to doing the same thing shortly after. A business can’t prevent the theft, can’t stop the theft, and is a sitting duck for it to happen again.

Definitely.
Since majority of crude oil coming into CA is by ship, some by train and from wells allowed to produce. There are NO pipelines from other states bringing crude into CA. So pump prices are higher in CA and of course newsom is baffled why prices are high.
Regular is up $ 0.972 over a month ago and Diesel is up $ 0.640 over a month ago.

.
Anything transported is going to increase in price, further stressing family budgets.
Businesses reliant upon discretionary dollars are going to be hurt.
.
A further hit will be closure in a couple of months of US Steel plant in Pittsburg.
That is not something that gets better over time, will be a permanent blow to area’s economy.
600 living wage UNION jobs gone ! ! !
Hearing crickets from politicians . . . . . .

Governor Newsom and all the Liberals are baffled by everything! They can’t understand why their policies & actions have caused high prices They can’t understand why their policies & actions have caused high crime. Ditto with the homeless problem. Actually they’re out of touch with your normal person and reality!

I’m sure one of the reasons that it’s closing is because it’s too expensive to do business. Unions destroy anything they touch. They are toxic and counterproductive to business. A perfect example of this is the auto workers strike where they have been offered. Massive pay increases as well as benefits increases, and they still want more. Lay them all off and go open shop.

Why not? Customer Service applies to all positions, all careers. Just cause it’s guaranteed that insurance companies will pay their salary, why shouldn’t they earn the business.

Yes, read a CVS is closing in Martinez, which some folks there loved the Pharmacist and clerks.
AOC mentions, … ‘People need to feed their Families’, and yet they steal from Target but not grocery stores??
So why aren’t they getting jobs and buy food for their Families!
It’s a bunch of BS and the thugs need jail time.

There are 2 CVS stores in Martinez. One is located in the Muir Station Shopping Center at the intersection of Center Avenue and Muir Road, and the other is located in the Virginia Hills Shopping Center on Alhambra Avenue in south Martinez right on the Pleasant Hill border. Do you know which of the 2 CVS stores is closing?

Once Target leave leaves the Century Plaza, the rest of the stores will follow.

I agree. Target was the anchor store for that shopping center. I’m going to miss Target. Now sadly the tax revenue that Pittsburg got will now be going to the Antioch Target. Also now that Brentwood has approved for Costco, some are worried that the Costco in Pittsburg will close.

JustMe October 1, 2023 - 3:18 PM - 3:18 PM

Also the United States steel mill in pittsburg and what was Dow Chemical (Corteva) are closing next year. The area is likely in for an economic downturn.

If anything happens to Lowe’s, Home Depot, Walmart or Costco, it’s not going to be pretty.

@Overwhelmed
Stop saying that! There are PLENTY of us who did NOT vote for those who are in “charge”. Remember too that propositions are written in a confusing manner and are misleading.

You should go to a independent, republican website for the proper definitions regarding propositions to the confusing misleading voting pamphlets the state puts out. do your homework if you want civility to survive.

oh yeah….. until consequences are given for theft – which won’t happen till voters have gotten rid of the progressive lenient incumbents…. which will be quite a while…

Yes Target is closing stores in San Francisco and Oakland due to theft. Stores will continue to close since theft is not something you can stop only delay it for another day.
Theives get a slap on the wrist and theyre back out the next day or the same day.
Soon stores will have everything behind locked doors like pharmacies are having to do now. Then youll be standing there for who knows how long waiting for a clerk to come and unlock it for you.
Theres a Safeway i visit in Oakland they have personal care items behind locked doors. Even shampoo and toothpaste. Its crazy.
I think everything will be online soon and youll have your items delivered like amazon.

It was just reported this week that Oakland has had 10,000 car thefts this year so far! Out of the city with a population of 430,000 that’s pretty bad! Is only going to get worse all over California until people wake up to see the damage this is being done by Uber liberal politics! A lot of you voters out there need to wake up and see the kind of crap you’re putting into office.

15
Captain Bebops September 29, 2023 - 4:37 PM - 4:37 PM

And you will get things that weren’t quite what you wanted or inferior quality that you would have avoided in you would have shopped in the store. But think about this, is this the result of theft or was theft allowed so they could condition us to pickup or delivery rather than shop ourselves? That is a utopian vision of the elite who can’t stand the rest of us.

Commonsensenor September 29, 2023 - 2:45 PM - 2:45 PM

Maybe rephrase the question to: “Is liberalism bad for society”

Keep voting for Democrats and talking about reparations …. promote that victim mentality.
Looting the stores, shoplift likes it legal. Sure stores will close, what else can they do?

The Fearless Spectator September 29, 2023 - 2:54 PM - 2:54 PM

Yes, and unfortunately the small family business will feel the most pain. Target can shoulder it, but when a family business goes upside down it likely takes the family finances with it.
And as these storefronts close, the criminals will have to look elsewhere to maintain their “too lazy to work” lifestyle. Porch piracy will go exponential.

Yes unfortunately. Online seems to be the only “fairly” safe space for retailers to go. This would be a no win situation. Imagine if all commercial retail dries up, then all support services will dry up as well. This includes but not limited to commercial construction, restaurants in associated malls, food services for them, and so on. Massive unemployment. What would take their place mom and pop stores? That sounds like a nice thing but with all the hell that is breaking loose now how could they ever survive as they would be the only targets for this madness. This isn’t the state of California this is the state of insanity and we need to fix this especially with Governor Grease ball sliding into the presidents seat (allegedly) spreading this manner to everyone else.
my opinion only.

GIT, The rest of the country is not smarter than California’s voters, they elected Biden.

I would be careful and on guard. He seems very popular in the news the last couple of months.
This would be an absolute tragedy but the people also voted for the current Sleepy Creepy so….?

It makes one wonder how is it that Sears at SunValley hasn’t closed for good?
I guess that Sears doesn’t get robbed because there are no people to still fear in or physically abuse. Robbing stores doesn’t only seem to be about getting something for nothing, it also seems that thieves do it as a way to control through fear, intimidation, and physical abuse.

Bobfished September 29, 2023 - 4:58 PM - 4:58 PM

This is the fault of the Liberal Progressive Democrat Party and their Supporters! These supporters will vote for all of this again and even more. They hate America!

American Citizen September 29, 2023 - 5:17 PM - 5:17 PM

Why any business would come to California is puzzling. The cost of doing business here, the Worker’s Compensation, laws and retail theft, make it a complete failure as a business model. It makes no difference that California is one of the largest economies in the world. When there is no consequences for theft, and even a very small Worker’s Comp. incident can cost millions to the employer it just doesn’t make sense.

I’d just like to add, that a certain unnamed presidential candidate, who has not attended a single dog and pony reality show fiasko they are calling a “debate”, is ahead in the polls by a whopping FIFTY PLUS PERCENT (depending on poll you reference)

If this doesn’t tell you how fed up our nation is with the current political idiocy, I don’t know what will.

I do try to support my local small businesses, but there’s less and less of them, and the ones that remain aren’t able to fulfill but a small part of my spending dollars spent on goods. Even my gunsmith sends me emails asking for work. I could buy more guns I suppose, but I’d need another safe. Maybe it’s time for a walk-in safe. Of course I’ll have to murder the guys who build it. A secret is only safe, if only one person knows it.
What was the question again? 🧐
