The Water Cooler – How Will Major Store Theft Come To An End?

by CLAYCORD.com

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.

Today’s question:

Sooner or later, the major store theft (grab & run of a lot of products at once) will have to come to an end. Whether the stores permanently close, lock everything up, or district attorneys actually start prosecuting the criminals responsible, it has to come to an end at some point in time.

QUESTION: How do you think it will end?

Talk about it….

It’s Real Simple and it’s worked Throughout History: There’s a thing called Law & then there’s consequences and JAIL.

We can ask any 1st grade for a solution & it would be better than these Ridiculous DAs.

Reasonable September 27, 2023 - 7:44 AM - 7:44 AM

Heard on the news last night. The Pittsburg Target store on Century blvd will be closing. They cited organized retail theft and employee safety.

Karl September 26, 2023 - 12:52 PM - 12:52 PM

When there are actual consequences for the thefts. The people have been patiently waiting for our DA to toughen up laws and sentencing. If not, lighten the penalty for taking the law into our own hands. This is ridiculous! I remember when I was a kid that theft was a crime!

Roz September 26, 2023 - 12:59 PM - 12:59 PM

It’s too late. It’s going to get worst. Next it will be more innocent people get robbed, hurt, or killed.
Welcome to the Wild-Wild-West across the USA. Freedom will be gone.
So, anyone have an answer?, …that will work? Please Share.

I agree with almost all of everyone’s comments, on once and for all restoring law and order. Without that, you have total mayhem like we have been experiencing with the rampant smash and grabs for quite some time. Regarding Gavin Newsom, if anyone votes for him for anything after what he did to California, they truly want to continue the further decline of the country. I also agree with an earlier comment that rest of the country will have more intelligent voters to avoid him seeking office of any kind. And anyway, all you have to do is visit S.F.,L.A.,Sacramento, and many other cities which he has left in ruins…

RunDog September 28, 2023 - 10:01 AM - 10:01 AM

Newsom was a Cocaine addict in the 70’s and probably puts away his fair share of weed these days. Did anyone really expect a more upstanding moral disposition from him?

Oh, please September 26, 2023 - 9:10 PM - 9:10 PM

Things would be better if it WAS the WWW. Then you could shoot thieves, rightfully so. THAT would stop them.

Stores will close.
Or…we could borrow a page from Sharia law and chop off the hands of three-time offenders.

41
Ricardoh September 26, 2023 - 2:17 PM - 2:17 PM

Three? Why not one? If a person is caught three times no one has any idea how many times they didn’t get caught.

Adopt the laws and penalties of Singapore.

MoJo September 26, 2023 - 1:24 PM - 1:24 PM

Much like the sideshows, I don’t think the flash mob style theft will end anytime soon. It’s too much fun for large groups of some of today’s poorly raised youth to get on their phones, pick a spot and let the mayhem commence. As for the grab and runs by small groups or individuals, the cure would be to bring the hammer down and get tough with the penalties but that isn’t happening anytime soon with the current crop of DA’s and Politicians. I think a lot of stores will simply close up shop permanently or convert to online shopping only. It’s too bad good moral character and honesty is in such short supply these days. That always worked in the past.

35
PO'd September 27, 2023 - 8:44 AM - 8:44 AM

The only way it ends is if there is some sort of epiphany regarding left wing politics and
the effect it is having all across the country. The George Floyd effect is a huge factor in
destroying law and order, perpetrated by the hard left-Obama, Soros et. al. It appears to
be working as planned.
We’ve got a long way to go toward normalcy.

It’ll come to an end when elected officials, judges, and district attorneys support law and order, prosecute crimes, and impose harsh and extended prison time.
.
Voters need to repeal Proposition 47.
.
Governor Newscum made a BIG MISTAKE emptying the prisons because of its cost. Now the public and businesses are suffering the consequences of his bad decisions.
.
Just think how bad it will be if Newscum extends his policies across the nation as POTUS!! It would be the death of America as we know it.
.

DOH September 26, 2023 - 3:22 PM - 3:22 PM

How much are you willing to contribute to build more prisons and pay the salaries of the guards and staff? I favor longer community service projects like cleaning park bathrooms, street sweeping, yard work, etc.

Youre naive. We as a society are paying the price right now.
.
Sometimes it’s just not dollars and cents… pleae tell us how “quality of life” is measured intrinsically.
.
By the way, we were already paying for prisons and corrections staff. And your feel good chores would also need to be supervised – a small span of control. Better to lock em up and supervise en mass.

11
bdml September 27, 2023 - 6:06 AM - 6:06 AM

Most of the smash-and-grab thefts are done by young people recruited via social media by organized groups. Neither the young thieves nor these groups are recent California parolees.

Ricardoh September 26, 2023 - 2:20 PM - 2:20 PM

A guy choked to death a shoplifter and he is charged with murder. Just today. My thought is if the city can’t stop it they should be charged. We can’t let this lawlessness continue it is killing our country.

Law and Order, harsh prosecution and verdicts, long prison terms, harsh prisons, armed security, armed citizens, tough DA’s and judges, respectable politicians, the return to good character traits, allowing G-d back into schools, patriotism, and the end of listening to bleeding hearts.

Captain Bebops September 26, 2023 - 3:23 PM - 3:23 PM

I really hate to go to a store and find a clerk to unlock the display just to check to see if the item I’m interested in is going to work. But that is the current choice. Otherwise if I blindly order it online it may not work and I have get in the car and drop the package off to return.
.
Solution? Logically return to the old way of handling shoplifters and making it worth their time. But there are all kinds of problems there too. Maybe population reduction is a solution.🙄
.
We live not in interesting times but strange times.

Locking the doors remotely to stop the mobs from leaving the store, video cameras for evidence gathering so they can’t simply drop the goods and claim to be shoppers and local police patrolling for quicker response. GPS locators on some expensive items in case they get into a car. And prosecution with arduous community service for the non-violent thieves.

If the politicians really wanted this to end, it would. The political class wants to limit your choices as much as possible so they can control who you are. That’s why the corona virus was running rampant in the mom and pop stores but magically left the chain stores alone. Now the chain stores are slowly being shut down so Bill Gates can tell you where to shop for the products he has invested in. Stop voting for the same people and their buddies who have been around forever to represent you.

Society must get back to a time when children were taught that actions, whether negative or positive, have consequences. It’s my understanding that schools are no longer suspending nor expelling kids. It’s also my understanding that there has been a push to get rid of juvenile detention facilities. What makes anyone think that someone will start following laws as soon as they become of legal age if they were never expected to follow rules when young?
In 1994, California enacted the 3 strikes law as a response to the murders of Polly Klass and Kimberly Reynolds.
Prosecuting these criminal mobs is not only about protecting businesses and our economy, it is also about having a functioning society where children can grow up feeling safe. Safety = opportunities.

26
1
PESFG September 26, 2023 - 5:49 PM - 5:49 PM

Also, Rite Aid is filing Chapter 11 and will close 500 stores. CVS is expected to close 900 stores. Walgreens will be following next. We all know that all of our local pharmacies have been robbed.
I guess allowing mobs to run rampant to the point where pharmacies are choosing to close stores and move everything online could be a plan to make us all become customers of those dispensary cafes that are being pushed to get approved.

It will slow down when WE reimagine criminal justice. There used to be laws that most people followed, but then so-called activists became District Attorneys through PAC money donated from people like George Soros. Liberal Judges took it upon themselves to make up excuses for bad behavior by reducing and imposing their who views instead of actually following the current laws already on the books. Many voters bought into this nonsense and feel-good ideas and blindly voted for Prop 47 and other Props which both reduced prison populations and consequences for committing crimes. Increase in crime was a direct result of AB 109. PLEASE thank State Attorney General Rob Bonta and Governor Newsom who are more focused on proper pronouns, illegal aliens, and transgender issues instead of what really matters.

We are experiencing a sociological experiment coupled with propaganda.
As a way to get out the minority vote by promoting victim hood.

Curious question. It is sad that this is actually a serious question, because of the prevalence of these smash and grabs. I do not think this will stop in these large democrat cities until all the stores are closed down. We have already seen large national chains close down stores in certain areas (san fran, chicago, etc.). If innkeepers/employees try to protect their merchandise, they get beaten, arrested, lose their employment and/or killed. There was a recent video from Philly of the ransacking of a couple stores. Dozens of people running out of the store with armfuls of property; police have to wrestle with one or 2. There is no winning this, not without the use of iron tools and rapidly moving projectiles, which is why, until all the stores are closed. then they will move on to houses, where castle doctrine supported by said iron tools can provide some prevention.

Captain Bebops September 27, 2023 - 9:20 AM - 9:20 AM

Was this a big problem when almost everyone had functional income? So once again it’s the economy that is the problem and we know who has messed with it.

Prop 47 was passed because courts and jails were filled with petty crime cases. I recall that years ago a local cop explained that the Claycord crowd has Prop 47 wrong. From what I recall you can’t continually commit such petty crimes until you get prosecuted. Folks here hate 47 but they also hate high taxes which would also be the result of prosecuting shoplifting crowds. Crowds, at least but if there is an occasional incident then like it days of yore the security officer or even the manager can take care of the incident.

With a functional economy where everyone has ample income then shoplifting would definitely shrink. Right now as one pointed out above a small percent of the population control the majority of the wealth. Why do we let that continue? Really, we vastly outnumber them. And those are not necessarily the “job creators” since new jobs come from innovation of new small startups until a big fish comes along and acquires them.

In my field people went for training in the field without any knack for it just because it pays well. Now employers are finding there is a vast supply of useless job candidates. Test for what people have a knack for rather than something that just pays well or at all. People doing what they are interested in are good employees making good products or creating great content.

Right now society is wacked out so it will be difficult to solve the problem.
