Which literally has nothing to do with the story which is, “who remembers Tia Maria”. Not what it was later and not about when you took….drug diversion classes.
Tia Maria was a great restaurant. Now we pick up food at a little Mom and Mop Mexican Restaurant on Clayton Rd. & Bailey Rd. Vero’s Taqueria where T.J. Maxx is.
I’ll try not to stray too-far off-topic, but what was that Mexican restaurant in the back corner of the Willows? They also had a center courtyard, much like in the picture above. I fondly remember their fresh guacamole and Cadilac margaritas.
You are thinking of El Torito! They had good food. I have a friend who was a manager there. Their recipes truly were scratch-made, everything was fresh and high quality.
Thanks, y’all! It was El Torito, and I wish we had one in Nashville.

I’ve been to Tia Maria’s but the inside of that sure looks like El Torito, doesn’t it? El Torito was in the Southwest corner of the Willows where Lazy Dog Restaurant (right next to 680 North entrance) is located now. Same decor I suppose.

I remember when Tia Maria became Casa Maria and then Cantina de Los Tres Hombres, before Hungry Hunter. They had good comedy nights there when it was the Cantina.

I remember the restaurant well….. but the address doesn’t match location, did they perhaps reassign addresses in the past? If you map search the address, it puts you right at chuck e cheese…..
@CRAZYTECH.…Yes, addresses started getting reassigned to four digits in the late 60s/early 70s on WP, Monument, and I believe, Concord Ave. and places in between them all.

I took drug diversion classes there in the late 90’s when it was hungry hunter – saturdays from 8- 3;30

“Pop”
I was a kid but I remember the food was good. Also liked Hungry Hunter
Yes it use to be a good restaurant. El Pappa Gallo on Clayton Rd was another good one also.
That was truly a great little restaurant. It’s a shame it closed.
forgot to ask….does anyone recall why it closed down? Lease expired….or??
Hell yes. When class and cool still were around.

Cowellian: El Torito?
El Torito

I believe you are referring to the restaurant in this post (Tia Maria). They tore it down and built the Lazy Dog restaurant.
COWELLIAN,
.
Wasn’t the restaurant in The Willows, where Lazy Dog (too loud) is now, El Toritos Mexican Restaurant and Bar?
It was El Torito’s. There is still one in San Leandro and I know there is another one in the Monterey area (I know my friend goes there).
Thanks, y’all! It was El Torito, and I wish we had one in Nashville.
