This smoke is killing me!
@DR. JELLYFINGER…Got me some killer too.
OK NYTEMUVR…… made me laugh.
May I ask, what are you two talking about?
I’m talking about forest fires up north sending us all that disgusting smoke… NYTEMUVR is talking about Pot.
Book report: Tunnel in the Sky, Robert A. Heinlein, 1955. Teen adventure Sci Fi mostly for the boys but girls will like it to. I know that because I read it back then and enjoyed it. Still do. The end gives a pretty good idea of how many adults see even the independent and resourceful teen and young adults even now. Oh, and you might pick up some really good survival skills and ideas should you need them.
When is the first day of fall in 2023?
A carefully worded answer is that on Saturday (Sept. 23), at 2:50 a.m. EDT (0650 GMT), autumn begins astronomically in the Northern Hemisphere, and spring starts in the Southern. The sun is currently migrating south, having spent the previous six months shining directly on the northern half of our planet.
Cowellian’s first.
It’s an early night tonight.
Pick One:
.
A) Dark Rye
B) Light Rye
C) YUCK
B) Light Rye for a Ruben Sandwich.
I disagree, somewhat; Jewish rye with caraway for a Reuben. Just not that terrible light and dark swirl stuff.
@ THE OLD GOAT ~ Oh yeah! That is better!
To me Rye is a golden Patty Melt with grilled onions. Diggers makes a pretty good one.
Best Jewish deli I ever experience was a tongue samich at Kantor’s in Fairfax meighborhood LA … a beast of a samich … but the Vietnamese Banh Mi at Ba Le on International Blvd in the now defunct Oakland is another top fav … and who could ever forget Luiggi’s pastrami masterpieces?
@JoJo
Will never get used to International Boulevard…..to me, it will always be East 14th Street. Just like the Nimitz will always be 17.
Welp … I used to work @13th & Webster … Sam Clar … so, I know what chu mean …
@CYN….I used to work on E. 14th St. In the Melrose District when I was in highschool. My first Union job as a Clean Up boy at the Melrose German Meat & Sausage Co. 5pm to 2am by myself, scary even back in the early 70s. They were the suppliers to Chris & John’s Hot Dogs on Broadway and a lot of other restaurants.
Still not happy with the striping on Concord Blvd , especially driving under the Bart tracks heading East , what a joke , it’s not striped yet because I believe they don’t know what to !!
I agree it a mess
I agree. The striping is crazy. I volunteer to give it a try.
B) It makes great toast, and you can’t have a real Patty Melt without it…
BTW a proper Patty Melt consists of Grilled Light Rye with Thousand Island Dressing, Grilled YELLOW (not red) Onions, Swiss Cheese and a Beef Patty.
A lot of people get it wrong.
I made patty melts for dinner last night…I just HAD to do it!
Either. Or one of each on a sandwich.
Welcome back Atticus.
Your absence was notable & I think we’re all glad to see you back, it makes Claycord a better place…. and I get to feel less guilty for all my silly sh%t.
LIght rye for some sandwiches, when lived in New York I lived about a Jewish Deli that had the best sandwiches. Dark rye, but the Danish style or European, it is more compact than the American style. Like it with cheese, especially Blue Cheese, or any kind of Danish open faced sandwiches.
Both, really enjoy rye.
I agree. The striping is crazy. I volunteer to give it a try.
Light, but with dill.
Both A and B. Dark rye with cream cheese, shrimp, avocado, sprouts and tomatoes. Light rye for patty melts.
Light rye (either Jewish, Russian, or Dill). Can’t make a good deli sandwich without.
B) on a steamed crab sandwich I used to get in the Northwest in the 1970s. Big sandwich with plenty of crab. The tavern that featured it was gone by the 1980s. Mouth watering yet?
“A”
.
It is all good though
Light Rye
Name ONE, just one, favorite song that is not from the first two decades of your life. Add group/singer name and the year of it.
Live Forever (The Band Perry. 2015. Country Pop)
Super Freak, Rick James, 1981
Has to be unreasonably loud though, for full effect.
Santana,… Smooth in 1999. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Whgn_iE5uc
“Living In America” James Brown 1985

Squib loads es no bueno. Muy no bueno!
Sorry Roz, got lazy thumbs. Nice Santana pull though. 👊
Common People, Pulp, 1995 (great question!! Made me think, and realize)
@Paranoid Pablito
Thanks. I wanted to end the day and the last day of Summer with something fun to talk about.
Spike Jones singing (!?) Beetlebaum.
Just one, not fair. I will go with one that I rediscovered the last month or so. “It makes no difference” The Band from The Last Waltz, sung by Rick Danko. Both the lyrics and Rick’s singing gives you the chills. I listen to it everday, Rick sings with so much emotion and soul it really touches you. And the lyrics “and the sun down shine anymore and the rain falls on my door”, and this line really gets me “and the dawn don’t rescue me”. Anyone who have loved and lost can identify with this song.
Brave new world
“Why does it hurt when I pee?”, Frank Zappa from the album “Joe’s Garage”, 1979.
In The Mood–Glenn Miller, 1938

@Dawg
Man, is that the name of that song? I’ve heard it here and there throughout my life and never knew the name. I love it. Have always loved big bands/orchestras. Nice choice, Dawg.
I love Glenn Miller saw the movie about his life with James Stewart and June Allyson. Me favorite is Moonlight Serenade, just dreamy, also like Indian Summer a lot.
Hanne,

Thank you Dawg, I actually have a CD with Glenn Miller’s biggest hits. And another with biggest hists from the Big Band area. They big bands were of m y parents generation, my dad was a very good dancer, and both my parents liked music to a certain degree, so we often had the radio on with music they liked. So unlike many baby boomers, I love the music from the forties, and before. Love Vera Lynn’s “We’ll meet again”, and of course for anyone who saw Dr. Strangelove would also know it.
Juke Box Hero – Foreigner – 1981. Keep on rockin’. – never gonna stop

Very tough call, but I think I am landing on Stone Temple Pilots Interstate Love Song (1994). Very difficult to choose (since there are a few more decades to consider, I am sure there are at least few more that could be listed, that I cannot think of)…
@Jeff (too)
I know, lol! I thought it would make it fun to answer yet challenging.
“I Want To Know What Love Is” – Foreigner – 1984
“Can’t You Hear Me Knocking “ Rolling Stones, year -1971.
Their best song, in my book, anyway.
I knew I liked you better than that other Jeff. 👊 🎸
“Hope The High Road” by Jason Isbell. 2021. We have suffered too much recently. Forward together, we’ll make it.
I Put A Spell On You by Screamin Jay Hawkins
Is that the same Creedence Clear Water sings? I like that on a lot.
@HANNE JEPPESEN………..Yep…..

Thank you I did listen to it. The man has a powerful voice, very interesting version.
You hit the nail on the head. Screamin’ Jay had a powerful voice and vibrato whenever he wanted it.
John Fogerty recorded a handful of cover tunes he felt were by historically important musicians. He did us quite a favor.
Yep, same lyrics but the way Jay does it is almost scary.

Did Costco shuffle on Thursday and it’s already Christmas.
Bone Bash was a blast Friday night…getting too old for all the walking though. Knees a bit sore today.
Yep great show – on oct 8 and 11 they are playing house of 1000 corpses in theaters for the 20th anniversary the closest one to us is dublin cineplex
And Alice Cooper is 75 and killed it – great set
The minute Ministry started, started the groove from when I was in my late 20s. Awesome set. Alice was Alice, nothing more to say, other than, as pointed out by DBCOOP, he is 75, spectacular. Glad Zombie played those last 2 tunes of his set (human and dragula). My knees were fine, my ears were ringing like crazy though.
@SIMONPURE….I hear you there, saw Steve Miller last night, he’s 79 and put on a killer show. My biggest blessing for the night was navigating the stairs in and out. Almost a couple of “Biden on the jet walkway” moments, it was a big fear!
We might not agree on politics, but seems we like the same kind of music. I love Steve Miller, he had a band when he was a student University of Wisconsin in Madison. My exhusband and most of his family was from Madison, and my ex was at the University the same time as Steve Miller. I especially love “Rockin me” it remind me a boyfriend I was seeing in 1986, because of the mentioning of certain locations. Northern California, Arizona, the East Coast. My then boyfriend were from Ct, had gone to school in Arizona and had come to San Francisco to look for a job when I met him.
Fun site. You can watch clips of old TV programs, news, sports, commercials. Look on the right for 50s,60s, and 70s too.

Movie suggestion … Lucky (2017) staring the late Harry Dean Stanton … a top-shelf actor … and one helluva singer to boot … Go Giants! … get hot and nab that wildcard!
I really enjoyed reading all of you guys’ answers. It is nice to end the work week on a lighter note.
JEFF (THE OTHER ONE)
🎵🎶🎸 One of their best all time. 🎸🎵🎶
NYTEMUVER, tried the Castello Danish blue cheese, bought at Safeway, contrary to Hanne’s comment about not being sold at Safeway. Found it very good, although not cheap, at $6.99 for a small chunk. Very crumbly, which is indicative of an aged cheese, whereas a smooth cheese indicates a young cheese. Good flavor, will have to try a tasting of Castello, Pt.Reyes and Mayfair for comparison, and price.
Yes, I realized when I was at Safeway the other day they did carry the Castello brand, I usually get the Castello havarti and I get it from Raley’s or Sprout’s, don’t remember seeing it at Safeway. Sorry for the misinformation.
@THE OLD GOAT…IMO you can’t go wrong with any of those. They are all on my grocery list for “treats” that I don’t get all the time. I make deviled eggs with blue cheese mixed in and sometimes with left over bacon bits… pretty tasty, but a dirt clod with blue cheese on it would taste good….lol. Blue cheese burgers is pretty good too.

@THE OLD GOAT….Don’t believe Hanne, she did it on purpose….
Ntm, Why would say that? Especially after we agree on some our favorite songs or bands. I will just assume it was tongue in cheek.😊
@Hanne
That’s a good assumption. 🙂

Tongue in cheek? That’s a rather cheesy reply

Suggestions . experiences with roofing contractors ?
Thanks
Avoid Mortensen Roofing and Gutters at ALL costs. They did an OK job, replacing my roof, but the installation of gutters was terrible. Gutters were installed with fewer downspouts than originally installed, and were installed with runoff sloping TOWARD the house, resulting in water intrusion in a wall. During installation, crew broke a window, which they replaced, but still, that shows negligence, or incompetence. Go elsewhere for your roofing job.
Thank You, for taking time to pass on information.

This week in one brief visit I observed three obviously paranoid, mentally ill individuals ranting and howling unattended. At the same time several frightened mothers pushing baby strollers tried to avoid them.

Was watching the opening ceremonies for the Ryder Cup. Couldn’t help, but feel the contrast of the way the professional golfers respected the national anthem. They were mouthing the words, and holding their hands over their hearts. Made me think of the incredible disrespect that the American women’s soccer team displayed.
Octoberfest in Clayton is set up for the weekend. Enjoy!
