Contra Costa Health Official Says COVID Cases Rising, New Mask Order Coming

COVID-19 cases are again rising in Contra Costa County as it and other Bay Area counties are issuing a new masking order that applies to workers at “high-risk” health care facilities.

Contra Costa Health Services chief executive officer Anna Roth told the county Board of Supervisors Tuesday that countywide hospital admissions for COVID-19 have increased since July, from 8.1 per day to 12.1.

“So it’s going up,” Roth said. “It’s not huge. We are able to handle the increased demand for some hospital beds, but it is going up.”

In response to the increased cases in the Bay Area — which health officials attribute to the latest mutated strain of COVID-19 — Roth said Contra Costa Health and other Bay Area health agencies are implementing new mask requirements for health care workers.

“We are issuing the health order today around masking for high-risk facilities, health care facilities specifically,” Roth said. “So again, masking in hospitals, masking in skilled nursing facilities, masking in high-risk facilities.”

The new masking order will not affect patients or visitors to affected health care facilities.

Roth said the new order will not include other residential congregate settings, such as detention facilities and homeless shelters.

Roth also said the latest vaccine — which isn’t considered a booster, but an entirely new vaccine that replaces the former vaccine and handles the newest variants — will be available in Contra Costa County either at the end of this week or beginning of next week.

“For those of you who have not been vaccinated in the last 60 days, you will be eligible,” Roth said. “This is a vaccine for everybody 6 months and over.”

Roth said the county is no longer running any mass vaccination sites and people should go to their regular providers.
“We do expect that there will be high demand the first couple of weeks,” Roth said. “What we have historically seen is that demand settles down and your regular providers will have the vaccine available.”

Roth said Contra Costa Health providers will turn no one away, but it’s important to go to a regular provider, who can record the vaccination for people to keep track.

Dr. Sefanit Mekuria, the county’s deputy health officer, told the board the county — and county libraries — are still offering free test kits through the mail.

OH MY GOD!!
The “ELECTION INFECTION”.
Do not comply!!

11

We cannot take the risk of being infected with COVID again!

Lock the whole country down forever!

30
14

Anyone going to ask if the increased number of cases are being admitted for symptomatic Covid or just testing positive while being admitted for other issues? Can we call this one the “Election” variant yet?

44
7

Just testing positive. Hardly anyone has any significant symptoms.

Anybody wondering why other developed nations are not recommending that everyone takes this shot? Are only offering it to high risk people over 65, if at all?

35
2

Several European countries banned it for people under 25

26
1

Bob which countries are those?

Denmark banned if for under 30 in mid 2022. No new updates so not sure if the have changed their tune. By the way, found on AP News.

Don’t you hate it when you ask a “gotcha” question without knowing the answer first?

With all due respect, if you’re going to mandate healthcare workers to wear mask then all patients entering hospitals should also wear mask. makes ZERO sense lol

Ridiculous that visitors can go into high risk facilities and not be required to wear a mask. Who makes this sh*t up?

14
8

If they work so great when why does someone else need to wear a mask if you have your mask on?

11
3

This is just another power trip
JUST SAY NO.
We need to follow the science.
The science saids masks don’t work.

32

Masks do nothing. This is all about control.

46
11

How long until it becomes a mandate for patients and visitors at high-risk facilities? And how long until it applies for everyone in lower-risk health facilities like dentists and eye doctors?

This is how it all begins.

34

About a week

13

Dentist offices should be #1 high risk facility. they work in patient’s mouths all day sitting at their bedside, if anything dentist offices should screen patients throughly and even require a negative home test prior to their visits.

2
16

Dentists and assistants have worn masks for years, decades, etc. It’s just part of the practice not for creating fear or control or a pandemic.

Not a chance Hippies…All ready been done….

The fear campaign is back again. Alex Jones warned us that restrictions were coming back this fall.
Alex was right again.

And just as Alex predicted, mid-September

Find it fascinating to observe behavior !
Looking forward to watch what may well be a significant amount of
negative reaction to government edicts.

Let’s lean into this. If Masks are mandated then hair nets, gloves, and goggles should also be mandated. Let’s how long that lasts. Only way to expose their bs is to go further.

There is a process to fire these public servants but I assume most of you democrats will gladly comply given the high risk of Trump winning 2024. Just follow your little masters. Meanwhile, I’ll be fighting anyone trying to prevent me from buying groceries. I never wore the mask and definitely won’t be starting. Remember, masks are for criminals and halloween. COVID IS A HOAX

29

There is no such thing as “public servants” anymore. They refer to themselves as “Leaders”. The public plays along.

I’m with ya Sam, no mask for me. It’ll be a fight.

COVID IS A HOAX

Right on Abe 🤝 Nice to meet you.

Next week I will be having my Covid booster shot along with my annual flu shot. If mask mandates are reinstated, I will comply. It is my individual responsibility, and our collective responsibility, to comply with public health guidance and mandates. Not doing so will prolong the life of this latest variant.

GUY….That’s Ok, us non-brainwashed folk with be snickering to ourselves behind your back. So funny seeing all the lemmings driving their car around with a mask on, have at it. Just get a full body condom too.

The vilification of Dr. Fauci by the right-wing media and consumers of its misinformation is absurd.

Right wing media wasn’t needed to vilify Fauci. One needed only to listen to his words and sworn testimony.

I personally refuse to go back to masks if they try to bring them back! I’ve had my shots they said they were suppose to keep you safe! The end.

So are they testing Sewage for “cases” now. or PCR tests ran at excessive cycles???

I refuse to be coerced into Any medical experiments as per the Geneva convention & I refuse to Divulge Any of My Personal Medical history as per HIPAA.

@ANON….I read a couple of weeks ago in some big cities and large concentrations of people tests are being done on raw sewage. I hope the sewage collectors are wearing their masks. Will they be considered “first responders” or “Number 2 technicians?…asking for a friend.

Don’t believe the hype. Think for yourself. This is all about control.

Sorry, but as a super conservative Republican, I tend to follow common sense and logic. I’ve known people that have died FROM COVID and others who suffer from long COVID years later. Believe what you want, fools are born every minute…

Seems more like you’re following anecdotal evidence rather than empirical.

Bill, your statement applies to you and not most people on this thread.

I would like to see the stores wiping down their counters and carts and providing wipes and hand sanitizer. That would be more helpful.

1
4

FPN, why wouldn’t you just buy those items with your own money and do it yourself? Inflation is already so high. The stores would pass the cost of this on to all of us. If you are so worried, why not buy a box of gloves and wear them when you leave your house?

I laugh at all the lemmings who are on their fifth booster and still get Covid. Who knows what’s gonna happen to them in 10 years? That junk hasn’t even had any sort of clinical trials. They just bring it out so they can make more money. Because they are the largest contributors to the lobbying groups in Congress.

You’d be surprised walking around Costco and work, years back, how many people didn’t notice.

picked it up working in Maui post fire- slightly scratchy throat and sniffles. Pre-covid it wouldve been called a cold…
