Joke

I’m great at multitasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at once.

I nominate this for Joke of the Year…..

Cowellian’s first.
Y’all have a great weekend.

I think it was a couple of weeks ago that “S” had a melon choice when “Nytemuvr” said to put salt on watermelon and “Dr. Jellyfinger” said to use kosher. I have since tried that and cannot tell the difference. I put a couple of sprinkles and all I could taste was salted watermelon. Not a fan.

@CYN…..I think it’s a mid-western, “southern” thing. I was just always raised eating musk melon(cantaloupe) and watermelon with salt on them. Granpa used to pepper his melons too but then he put pepper on everything. People that worked the fields back then ate salt tablets and a lot of salt on food as they sweated a lot and drank lots of water.

Good point, Nyte – my Texas family worked hard on their farms – from can til’ can’t – salt was not just a condiment – it was an elemental part of their diet; went on practically everything. They ate like kings: plenty of farm-raised pork, chicken, fish they caught themselves – and dish after dish of home-raised vegetables on their long supper table – corn, tomatoes, butter beans, black-eyed peas, okra, green beans, potatoes, collards, you name it. The men drank discreetly behind the barn on Sundays after church while the women prepared a big Sunday dinner. The 14 original brothers and sisters lived long, long lives – all tall, healthy, and skinny as rails. Great weekend to all!

yeah, my grandmother was a fan of the salt on watermelon; was never my thing.
Try a little black pepper on cantaloupe; another thing from grandma’, I do like that.

@S
Your grandma and Nytemuvr’s grandpa would have gotten along great. 🙂

probably so…

My mom put salt AND pepper on her watermelon and any other melon that came to the table. Not a fan either way.

It’s a weird chemistry thing … makes the brain sense sweet … and salt also has minerals … well … at least it did … now table salt is stripped of the minerals … sighhhh

Stuff I’m grateful for:
A deep and abiding love for my children who I also actually like. The people I actually like…not a very long list. And both of them? That’s just luck.
French wine.
German cars.
Italian food.
That I was born white, middle class American male, in the second half of the 20th century. A cosmic lottery
ticket.
Any weapon in .45 ACP
Cats. I know, I should have said dogs. I can’t explain it.
People who move out of the passing lane instinctively when they’re done with it.
The Rolling Stones first 10 albums. ‘Eff the Beatles, buncha tossers.
German cars. I know I’m being annoying. Buy one and tell me I’m wrong.
That I can grow more fruit and vegetables than I can eat or give away.
My Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms. All of them, without qualification or equivocation.
That even at my age, and having meet thousands of people, my mother remains the most morally upright person I’ve ever met.
Sunflowers. They just make me happy.
Lemon trees too.
That pornography was not just two clicks away when I was a teenager.
A good shovel.
That we have 50 states, each with their own, laws, customs and eccentricities.
My doctor. She’s way smarter than me, and that’s comforting. My lawyer is also smarter than me. but she’s more expensive. And kinda mean.
September. I have baseball, football and NASCAR. My DVR will be getting some work. My books, not so much.
That I never invested a penny in any cyber currency. And sold on GE before it cratered.
That my military service didn’t cost me more than I gained. By a long shot as it turned out.
A cold, overly ripe peach on a hot day.
My political and religious ideology only adds color to my world, doesn’t consume it. Or me. That would suck.
My eyesight.
That I don’t have any debilitating sexual idiosyncrasies. “Debilitating” is the key word.
That gambling losses hurt more than gambling winnings feel good.
Air conditioning.
That just enough people get up every day and work hard and try to do the right thing. Just enough.
Taylor Swift. Though I can’t name one song and that’s my shame, she brings a lot of joy to an incredible number of people. She’s like a human sunflower.
Tax preparation software.
John Coltrane. Specifically ‘A Love Supreme’.
The ocean, it terrifies me, but I love to go look at it. From a safe distance.
Gibson acoustic guitars. I bought a Hummingbird that I torture most nights. Can’t really say I play it, more that I ‘use’ it. May have misspelled abused.
I don’t live in or near Gary, Indiana. A truly godforsaken place.
Claycord. All you guys and the Mayor. Thanks for tolerating my nonsense.

Well, that’s a good list, Atticus, and I like it.
Too many people don’t know how good they have it – glad you do!

10

@ATTICUS THRAXX..…Mick and the boys released an album (#32 studio album) just last week that sounds damn good!….Good post AT.

ATTICUS THRAXX ~ Always glad to see your post.

Nice list, Atticus!
Taylor Swift’s voice is like nails on a blackboard to me, but I understand that everyone else on the planet loves her, and I can live with that.
Back when I was making regular trips between Great Lakes, IL and Nashville, I could always tell when I got to Gary because the sky was always green there.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Well…..I wouldn’t recite that in church, but it’s a great list Atticus.

@Atticus Thraxx
…..and here all this time I thought I was the only one who considered the Beetles to be overrated. Good one about the passing lane. And there is no shame in not knowing a Taylor Swift song. I know 1 title and that’s only because she sang that song with Def Leppard. Good post. 🙂

Although The Doors and The Band are my favorite sixties groups, l like the Beatles a lot. Did not in when they first became popular, my friends and l were into jazz. Dexter Gordon was living and playing in Copenhagen. However, when the Beatles came out with Sgt Pepper’s that changed. Also love Abby Road and the White Album. Probably Abby Road is my favorite.

@Hanne
In my opinion, the best part about the Beatles was George Harrison and his guitar. They sang “Help” live at the Hollywood Bowl, which was pretty good. Best McCartney song….”Band On The Run”.

Book report: Those Idiots From Earth, Richard Wilson, 1952-1956. This collection of 10 short stories bounces around from how to have a baby in 3 months instead of 9 and a story that will remind you of Peter and the Wolf. The Lonely Road might make you feel lonely. I’m sorry to say this is another falling apart book that will find its way to the recycle bin in multiple pieces. Since it was asked of the last similar fated book, this one cost of whole .35 cents.

As mentioned about a month ago when Robbie Robertson of The Band died, I was a great fan of his and the music of The Band. I finished his book Testimony, fascinating. I have gone back and listened to more of their music, some old favorites, The Weight, Up on Cripple Creek, others. Some I had forgotten about Stage Freigth and It makes no difference, sung by Rick Danko. I love his singing, he puts so much soul and feelings into it. Not that I don’t like Rich Manuel or Levon Helm, but there’s something special about Danko.

When I’m driving somewhere, long or short drives, I have the radio on, news, talk, but often music. I listen to the Eagle Sacramento 96.9 I think, 103.5 and 107.7 I hear The Beatles, The Doors, The Stones, The Who, Creedence Clear Water, Lynard Skynard, U2, Springsteen and many others, however I never hear anything from The Band. Does anyone know why? Curious in Concord.

7
3

I’ve often noticed the same thing about Freddy (Boom Boom) Cannon…. where’s the music?!!!

@DR. JELLYFINGER… Interesting fact I just saw, Chuck Barris wrote this….
https://youtu.be/wgzib59HA40?si=73FtGZDqWELM6zVf

Gong Show …

The Eagle is great because they really mix things up and play the more obscure cuts, not just the hits.
107.7 seems to have a rather set rotation. They play Guns and Roses so much I swear Axl Rose must have ownership in the station. “Sweet Child ‘O Mine” over and over and over. I don’t get migraines, but I imagine that’s what they feel like.

Try this … Google search “The Eagle Surf Music De” … thank me later …

Since this is whatever I’ll say it. ( maybe unfair ) I do not like the Claycord logo. It looks too much like a stupid high school team.

9

My first thought whenever I read Claycord and see the Mascot is that is represents Clayton Valley High School – the Eagles

The Eagle does represent Clayton Valley High School. He attended Clayton Valley. Funny how that works!

Live ’85 … epic senior graduation trip to Hawaii … the place we stayed in burned to a crisp … #GreenLizard #MooseMcGillycuddys #RocknRollBoozeCruise #RIPRickyTapatillo

THE CIRCUS CLOWN…In ’85 I think the only place to stay in Lahina was the Pioneer Inn. I stayed there for a week in ’83. My room was across the street from the big Banyan tree by the docks next to the Inn….killer week.

I thought a crow would’ve been a better choice because we all have something to “crow” about… how about an image of a crow with it’s mouth open? (not that the matter is still open for a vote) but as long as the Tarantula lost, I’m happy. Spiders creep me out.

Pick One:
.
A) Danish Ham
B) SPAM
C) YUCK
.
Side Note:
Danes may opt out this week.
We don’t wanna skew the results.
Sorry H J
😊

If I had my “ruthers” I’d go with “A” but…..Spam has its place in the cabinet for that nostalgic “take me back” fried Spam sandwich with cheese. But just one of those in a Blue Moon.

C. Though maybe A is better than B. Black Forest for me, no canned ham.

I’ll take B but fried, cut bite size and mixed with any melon other than watermelon. (Also bite size and no salt or pepper).

Danish ham is a new one to me, never heard, nor had, so, will have to go with Spam. In fact, I think I’ll have spam spam spam spam spam eggs and spam.

“B”
a stable in my cupboard

Tater Tots. I know that wasn’t a choice, but I really like Tater Tots.

@ATTICUS THRAXX…Tots, the perfect companion to fried Spam and cheese sandwiches, double up on your statins if your arm gets weak and your chest feels tight.

I’d be curious too.
I’ve wondered; through all Claycord’s years, what single article has received the most reader posts.

From my recollection, the Spirit Poles, Crowell Smokestack demo and that jabrone that was dropping stuff out of his small plane at low altitude on his girlfriends house in Concord and it took a lot longer to stop him than you’d think it would.

Has anyone had a garage sale, sold at the flea market or online lately? Was it worth your time? Or did you just donate your stuff to charity?

2
1

Been over a year; Garage sale… My adult kids helped otherwise woulda’ been a hassle.
money taken in was decent, junk gotten rid of decent, time with kids priceless.
I had a few racks in the smoker for when we were done….

8
2

I always donate to charity. First, I am comfortable, not needing anything (other than better will power to control my eating). Also, I do not have the patience to set up tables, figure prices for everything, and then sit half the day, and then negotiate with people on prices (I’d just agree to whatever anyway).

@BILL….Why would you want to sell your garage, most people keep all their junk they’ll never need or use in it.

Martinezmike, is that you?

Oh good luck JoJo!
I’ve been shot down more times than a team of Republican lawyers.

Should Walnut Creek ban people from Oakland and Antioch, specifically Cheesecake Factory? 93.5% of the violent robberies in Walnut Creek for the past 2 years have been from residents from Antioch and Oakland, two criminal infested cities. The decision to cancel the Walnut Festival 2023 were based on concerns from criminal elements targeting the customers and the associated increase in police presence and expense. Should Walnut Creek ban nissans with Automated License Plate Readers?

Some reflection this weekend with a bit of historical reading.
How would folks of today react to writings of 1722
https://www.ushistory.org/franklin/courant/silencedogood1.htm

What exactly is Danish Ham? I mostly see Black Forest Ham in stores or sandwich shops. We do have a popular open faced sandwich made with ham. It is a slice of ham (much thicker than ham here, more like Canadian Bacon) on buttered dark bread, then topped with what we call “Italian Salad”, which is green pea’s and carrots, cut into tiny squares and cooked just enough to make them a little soft, then mixed with mayonnaise.

2
6

@HANNE JEPPESEN..…”Danish ham” is just an old time reference to a canned ham, at least it was in my extended family. The sandwich you described sounds pretty tasty. I get this “Danish” bleu cheese that is made in Denmark and it’s made with Penicillium roqueforti bacteria just like many “bleu cheeses” from around the world just with different tastes and consistencies, it’s much creamier than most….now I’m hungry.

@ NYTEMUVR
Got a name to go with that cheese description? Sounds like it might be worth checking out.

@THE OLD GOAT….Castello Danish Blue Cheese, I get it at Raleys and I think I’ve seen it at Safeway. Another recommendation is Point Reyes Original Blue Cheese I get from Amazon Fresh. Both kinda pricey but like Brylcreem…”A little dab’ll do ya”.

I’m not near Raley’s, but checking Safeway’s webpage, I see they do carry that brand, so next time at my Safeway, I’ll look for it. Thanks for your quick reply.

In general the Castello cheese are pretty good. Raley’s and Sprouts use to carry the Castello havarti with caraway seeds, which is my favorite. However, they no longer do. As for the Blue Cheese it has a fairly long shelf life to you could buy 2 and 3 at the time. Safeay does not carry the Castello brand.

Yes, I do remember seeing the canned ham, named Danish, I never took it seriously. Just like the Danish cookies that comes in a blue tin. They are shaped like the Danish cookies that people use to bake themselves at Christmas time. However, not they are all that bad, they bear little resembling to the real thing. First of all Danish cookis in different shapes, means different recipe, some have a strong vanilla taste, other cardomon etc. When I was growing up most household would bake many different cookes at Christmas time. Then in the month of December, whenever you visited a neighbor the cookies would come out. At that time mail was delivered by the mailman on bicycle. Since it was often cold, snowy or rainy, he would often get invited in for a hot cup of coffee and cookies. Sometimes a sandwich and a shot of Aqavuit (snaps) that warmed you up, even though I think it taste terrible.

1
4

Hanne, did you mean “Schnapps”?

Yes, guess without realizing it used the Danish spelling. Sorry, but I think most will know what I mean.

1
2

Well if I could figure it out……but I just guessed.

@HANNE JEPPESEN…Just had some of your home country’s lox, you Scandinavians have some pretty tasty treats….I’ll pass on the lukafisk though.

Here’s a joke about lutefisk, if you are Norwegian please don’t get offended. I never claimed to be politically correct. A woman calls into a talk show in Minnesota, she is in a panic, she has scores of skunks under her house. How do I get rid of them she asks. The host answers “Oh, that is easy just put some lutefisk under the house and the skunks will be gone. Be sure to call me back and let me know if it works. She calls back a week later, the host asked “Did you get rid of the skunks? Oh, yes she answers, but now I have another problem “how do I get rid of all the Norwegians under my house”. I first heard it at a late night party with the Scandinavian Club’s cabin at Clear Lake, it was late night, and we were having a good time, everyone laughed, even the Norwegians.

“C” – Yuck!

You lost me at the “Italian Salad.” I really like Black Forest but I add cheese and lettuce. I’ll have to try adding bacon someday.

There wasn’t much Italian about that salad, it was just a name, probably from way back before many people travelled and got to know real Italian food.

@HANNE JEPPESEN….”before many people travelled and got to know real Italian food.”….like Olive Garden.

When I lived in New York in 69 and 70, Little Italy was a favorite for dinner. In fact one of the first dates I had with my exhusband, he took me to a restaurant in Little Italy. Place was very plain, there was an older woman singing italian songs, and the service was so and so, but the good was great as was the price, which might have something do with him taking me there. He also said he took dates there as a test, he didn’t want to date someone snobbish, and if they didn’t get that place he would be moving on. When we moved to San Francisco we would go to family style restaurant in North Beach, also Vanessi’s, Modesto Lanzone and others I forgot the name of, but great italian food.

@HANNE JEPPESEN….Maybe Tommaso’s or Original Joe’s in North Beach for great Italian food you don’t remember the name to, both great “Old School” restaurants?

Just for conversation. (side note: I don’t know all the details)
Hearing the Clayton Council did vote to raise the fees; substantially, for groups wanting to hold events. Some event holders may not be able to afford it, so will cancel or look elsewhere. Like the BBQ event and such.
Good move by the Council or bad?

4
3

Clayton has lost it’s small town charm…. sad but true.
So no car show/soapbox derby? No BBQ contest?
No Gay Parade?!!!

Perhaps some of us will need to stop by city hall and inquire if council knows definitions of
tourism, name recognition and sales tax revenue. Could be they don’t have a clue.
Then again might find out they got some very bad suggestions, like other cities raised prices . . . . . .

3
1

Nytemuvr. I think one was Capp’s Corner, fairly inexpensive, I don’t think we went to Original Joe’s, perhaps the one in Marin where we lived for 6 years. However, my ex worked in the city was business partner with a well known Italian, his family use to own Geyser Peak Winery (Joe Ciatti) so we often ate out in the CIty. And there was another one right on the square in North Beach, if I look it up I can probably find the name.

Nytemuvr, Did a little googling here are a few others Golden Spike and Cafe Sport. After I got divorced I would hang out at these places with friends or a date. Bohemian Cigar Store, Tosca Cafe, Adler’s Museum Cafe, Tivoli Savoy, and for dancing Silouettes. Would also pop into to City Lights Bookstore often they were open late and had a great selection. I loved North Beach, the atmosphere, the diversity of restaurants, store and cafe’s and I always felt safe, never worried about getting robbed etc. How things change.

@HANNE JEPPESEN…..No doubt we were running with different crowds but a couple sound familiar, Capp’s Corner and Tivoli Savoy ring a bell. It does take all kinds to have a good party. Definitely a great time to run around in SF.

HJ,
I love Rick Danko too! Just standing up there to give it all his might.

Uncle Monty, The more I look into Rick Danko, and look up and listening to his songs on UTube the more enarmored of him I become.

Anyone know about that strange building going up next to the Willow Pass Safeway? Asking for a friend.

hindu temple

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, it’s “The Argent” (180 to 190 units of multifamily).

Yup, Hindu temple is right – I was thinking of the site just on the other side of the BART tracks.

Yesterday there were tables/ signs set up at Chevron Station at Treat and Oak Grove supporting Trump. There were anti- Biden shirts with inappropriate language hanging for everyone including children to see. Regardless of political views this does not seem ok to me. I for one, will never go to that Chevron station.

4
13

This is what it is going to take to keep the Biden administration from totally destroying the US, if they haven’t achieved that already. I’m not a Trump fan either but the spirit of what he tried to do against the global elite was good. It was for once that by surprise that the elite didn’t get their “selection”, Hillary.

5
4

It was the same thing at the corner of CoCoBlvd and Chilpanchigo on the sidewalk next to the Shell Station!?!
I thought it was GREAT!!

6
5

@Redrazor
I thought the same when I saw it a few weeks ago off Clayton Rd.

5
5

I personally don’t believe bad words will send you to hell. That said, I don’t care for the use of such language around children.
However if I have a choice between my grandchildren seeing a t-shirt with a bad word, or some LGBTQ guy swinging his trunk in a parade, I would certainly choose the former.

9
3

@Fearless
“Frustrated” never said what the inappropriate language was. Just the name “TRUMP” can really upset a lot of people.

The future is either “Trump” or “Trunk”.

I support Chevron in Treat/Oak Grove. Its so refreshing to see Republican flags who stand for the educated majority in this area. They stand for family values and support children, minorities, and victims of crime. I am sick and tired of the Marxist Soviet liberal rhetoric that supports criminals while screwing Asian American victims of crime. There are people who are honest & hard working and losers who steal and cheat.

BTW, the Republican table was staffed by a young African American and a Native American. Obviously they love America and not the racist homophobe Che Guevara.

LoL! OK, Here’s one…

My Buddy asks: “What do you call those things you blow & then make a wish?”
Me: “A breathalyzer?”

Mid-Week Pick One:
.
A) Duracell
B) Energizer
C) I remember free battery cards from Radio Shack.

@S
B) Energizer
Duracell would be a close second.

“C”… That was in the 60’s though…….
.
Any more; usually which is on sale of ‘A’ & ‘B’ when I need a good battery…. Otherwise just the cheapies are good for me………………

@S….”C”.….I remember those cards. Before RS closed it’s doors I went in to get some pilot light bulbs for my McIntosh stereo amplifier. I couldn’t read the number on the bulb so this younger clerk said he would just look them up. After about 10 minutes, no luck. He turned the reference book around and he was looking for bulbs in the computer section. He said I don’t see anything for stereo equipment from Apple. Sure do miss that place though. It was nice to just be able to replace and solder a burned 30¢ resistor on a circuit board to fix it, those days are long gone I guess.

neat story
yep, times of old

Got the happily worded email from PG&E yesterday: “Your energy bill is going up. Understand why and what the next steps are”
“This winter, you will see higher rates for gas and electric service. We are communicating with you now so you can understand why and prepare for higher bills.”

2

and I got an email saying my energy use levels were good
just a few minutes later another email… use: fair….
.
Maybe if they eliminated to Krapola; the bill wouldn’t be as high??????
.
Yeah, I know: but to dream…

And when we conserved last time they said they had to raise the rates because they didn’t sell us as much energy as they thought they would.
So whether we reduce usage or increase usage does not matter, either way the price increases.
What a racket!

It is Tarantula mating season on Mt. D…..

We all know the election was rigged: The Tarantula WON !
