Contra Costa County (County) is accepting applications for two upcoming Airport Neighbor position openings on the Aviation Advisory Committee (AAC). One position is designated for someone who works or resides in the unincorporated community of Pacheco. The second position is designated for someone who works or resides in Byron, Brentwood, Knightsen, or Discovery Bay. Upon appointment by the Board of Supervisors the new appointees would serve a term expiring on February 28, 2027.

The AAC serves as an advisory group to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors (Board) to provide advice and recommendations to the Board on aviation matters related to the Contra Costa County Airports.  The AAC typically meets once per month at either Buchanan Field or Byron Airport.

Application forms can be obtained from the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors by calling (925) 655-2000 or at:  https://www.contracosta.ca.gov/3418/Appointed-Bodies-Committees-Commissions.  Applications should be submitted online or returned to the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, County Administration Building, 1025 Escobar Street, 1st Floor, Martinez, CA  94553, no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023.  Applicants should plan to be available for public interviews in person or via Zoom, currently scheduled for Monday, December 4, 2023, at 11:00 am at the County Administration Building, 1025 Escobar Street, Conference Room 110 A & B, Martinez, at the Airports Committee Meeting.

My father was a WWII veteran and an air traffic controller who worked all over the country, including Buchanan Field, before he was laid off during the FAA strikes in the 80s. I remember when we were kids flying out of Buchanan in my dad’s Cessna to go camping in the Sierra’s. He let us take the yoke and taught us how it worked.
I have fond memories of Buchanan and have watched it grow over the years to include JetBlue and private jets which come in over my house every day.
I hope whoever is selected as a community contributor will keep our communities’ best interests at heart.

I nominate “TPC” for Airport Neighbor position on the Aviation Advisory Committee (AAC).
.
Seems TPC’s heart is in the right place.

TPC, S, RICARDOH, DOH, and LOU,
.
It’s unfortunate, but the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, much like the Concord City Council and other City Councils in the Claycord area, only want to appoint individuals who think as they do, because they don’t value the diversity of thought, which may cause descension, they only value monolithic thinking!!!

Does anyone remember Sherman field airport in Pleasant Hill?

Not sure what someone without knowledge of aviation could be of help. Would be curious what political bent they are looking for.

Would they have to know how to fly? Any qualifications besides the mentioned residencies?

I just hope they pick someone that supports the best interests of the airport.

ANGRY AMERICAN,
.
There was also Mahoney Airfield near downtown Concord, which was located between Railroad Avenue (BART tracks today) and Oakland Avenue and between Atlantic Street and Pacific Street (east side of BART, drop-off and center parking lot, today).
.
There’s also the former CNWS airfield that can still be seen from East Olivera Road, next to the former USCG housing site.

Once again “Thank you!” they used it last for helo during desert storm in 91. I love the history around us.
American Graffiti, yup Buchanan field, Modesto for the cruise and Petaluma for the A&W drive in.

I watch drone racing on TV. Would that give me enough experience and expertise?

If you are sober when you watch it you qualify.

I don’t fly so maybe I should apply? Oh, don’t live in those areas.
