The following is from the Concord Police Department:

Our SET Officers were actively addressing street racing issues in Concord over the weekend.

This successful operation was made possible thanks to a grant through the California Office of Traffic Safety.

SET Officers issued citations, towed multiple vehicles, and made arrests, including two for illegal firearm possession.

CPD is committed to safeguarding our community, day in and day out.

YES! Great work Concord PD! These street racers / sideshow participants are extremely dangerous and do not care about anyone else’s safety. We have all seen an increase in the amount of people who blast through red lights going 75+ on YVR, or seen cars racing/weaving at high speeds on Clayton Road or Concord Blvd. They do NOT care about innocents around them. I am very grateful to Concord PD for caring enough about their residents’ safety to crack down on this. May all their cars be sold at public auction.

Looks like we don’t need more info.

Are the cars crushed yet?

There was no street racing to begin with lol

Why do the police need a grant to do their job?

Good question. I know that if they require new equipment, grant money comes into play. Or if they are coordinating with another agency (CHP, or another municipality, and possibly helicopters) grant funding makes up the gap in pay caused by jurisdictions, but I don’t know the details. Also for any 3rd-party participation, this would be additional software licensing which would work in tandem with air surveillance, and whatever isn’t already covered for in the budget.

I’m sure there is more to it than what I know. I do not work in that field.

Where are they street racing?

I was just wondering why they need a special grant to make this operation possible. I have seen other operations that they said were made possible because of a grant. Don’t our taxes pay for the police to do their jobs. If anyone can explain that would be great.

https://www.apexofficer.com/resources/how-grants-help-police-departments-and-law-enforcement-agencies#:~:text=Grants%20are%20an%20important%20source,serve%20and%20protect%20their%20communities.

Police departments and law enforcement agencies can use grants to fund a variety of programs and initiatives that aim to improve community relations and public safety. Some examples include:

Community policing programs, which involve officers working closely with residents to identify and solve local crime and safety issues.
Youth programs, such as mentoring or after-school activities, that aim to prevent delinquency and reduce crime among young people.
Crime prevention initiatives, such as neighborhood watch groups or installing security cameras in high-crime areas.
Technology upgrades, such as body cameras for officers, license plate readers, and other equipment that can help improve public safety and accountability.
Training for officers in areas such as de-escalation, crisis intervention, and implicit bias.

Where were the street racing arrests? Asking for a friend 🤣

All they have to do is sit on Treat (AKA Contra Costa County Regional Drag Strip).

Nobody races down treat tho 😂

Racing is already too expensive !
Have you seen the price of gas lately?
How about groceries?
Bidenomics is killing us!

Have you looked at corporate profits? Exxon set a record for its highest quarterly profit in its history.

Been going on for months, copy of my post from April 17, 2023,
.
“Driving east bound Clayton road from Concord bart out past Baily Road three newer vehicles with paper plates RACING 55 MPH PLUS FORCING VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD, PASSING ON THE RIGHT, USING LEFT TURN LANES TO PASS . . . .”

It isn’t just souped up cars and pickups racing down major streets. Start looking at motorcyclists. Only a small fraction of the cyclists are obeying speed limits. They are racing down Clayton Rd., Concord Blvd.,Treat Blvd, etc. at crazy speeds. Sorry we don’t have a Sears Point Racetrack for them to test their limits . I’m sure it is difficult for police to nab reckless speeders, but start doing it!

@PC….When Sears Point first open they had a day motorcycle owners could pretend to be real racers and test their skills at the track. It was real entertaining to ride out there, sit on our HDs and watch the rotating ambulances taking the track riders to the hospital. I don’t think they do that anymore for liability reasons.

There will be alot more of this as more drag strips get shut down. The problem is these kids / people have no where to go to suplort the hobby / sport.

The phad seems to be this:
Build track homes next to a race track

Start operation noise complaint (yea, maybe shouldnt have bought a house near a drag strip?)

Then force the drag strip to close.

I agree its sensless to do it on the street , however it seems like this is a reaction to what has been going on. Sacramento raceway , the most popular drag strip was just closed .

Race tracks have nothing to do with it. It’s just the boneheaded reaction of one driver being passed by another and the challenge to see who is first and fastest with brand new cars they bought off the lot… I doubt if these “street racers” even know how to change their own oil.

I agree with the people asking why it would take a grant to get police to do their jobs ?? Do they need a grant to crack down on loud exhaust systems? How about illegally tinted windows? The red light runners definitely need a grant…… what does CPD do all day when there is no grant program in force????

Apache Helicopters with GE Miniguns and night vision gear would solve this problem quickly. Same as we solved vehicle problems in Iraq and The ‘Stan.

We use to ride our
motorcycles at Sears Point when I was a kid. Best time ever. Those were the days.

What street racing? There was no street racing, the cops were there the whole time controlling the meet. False news

No it’s not just a pathetic troll gaslighting, move along little boy…

Why does the street’s race matter?

It’s curious they don’t go after the “sideshow” guys. A couple hundred cars, intermittent gunfire, shop windows broken, hundreds of spectators, and usually no arrests or impounded cars.
I suppose they have their reasons for leaving that group alone.
