Isn’t there a car show/soap box derby in Clayton this weekend?
I’ve seen no mention of it this year.

It doesn’t seem like this has come back since pandemic times. I used to drive my classic car over every year….too bad. It was a very nice event and seemed well attended.

I am happy the CNWS is moving forward without Seeno, and that City Council is moving forward without Tim McGallian.

YAY!.! So happy this is finally up! waiting for all the comments!!

So didn’t our garbage bill increase last year to accommodate the 2 gallon green buckets to put food scraps in beginning this weekend? Mayor Laura Hoffmeister wrote an article in the 8/18 edition of the Pioneer saying that if we don’t want to use the buckets just put our scraps directly in the green waste cart. Why were we even given tiny buckets to have the scraps stink up the kitchen in the first place? Someone’s not so brilliant idea I dare say. So we were charged for a bucket that we can now ignore and everything now goes in the green can? Absurd! It’s time we have choices in garbage companies! It’s time the City starts negotiating with other garbage companies to do business with.

Thank your state and federal government. These are the ones implementing these stupid rules. The garbage company is only following what is mandated to them.Keep voting in those political rule making politicians that want there pockets lined with gold.

I threw my little bucket away…
Somehow I missed the Memo about them. When they were delivered (just tossed in peoples front yards on a windy day), I thought some kid lost their beach sand pail. I had no need for it, so out it went.
Then a little time later my neighbor asks if I even use my bucket. My answer was: Huh?

ps: neighbor uses it to carry garden hand tools….

They said recycle buckets – so I recycled it! 🙂

Really,…all you had to do was return it to MDRR which is what I did.

My grandparents had a pail under the sink for food scrapes and stuff but it got emptied every night in the chicken coop. Needed to fatten up the chickens for Saturday night fried chicken supper.

I gave mine away to a neighbor who uses compost for gardening. We have no room under our sink or fridge for this. And seeing my garbage bill rise further due to this addition is something I’d like to scrap.

Book reports: The Worlds of Frank Herbert, 1971. Nine stories each with a bit of different SF point of view. Get ahead at work by tactfully sabotage? Trade a beautiful large (inside) home for a run down trailer? And try an advertising agency that is called A-W-F UNLIMITED. Not a trace of Dune in any of them.

Brave New World, Aldous Huxley, 1932. Dystopian just doesn’t cover this one. I have read a lot of Sci Fi with all kinds of sexual standards but I think this one is just sci fi soft porn after a fashion. Teach young children sex games? Require adults to have frequent and different sex partner for fun and games? Payday is an all purpose feel good drug? All in the name of the great god FORD! Sorry folks, this one goes in the recycle bin.

Claycord, have you ever thought about making a claycord App? Could be just like the website but an app and have different tabs for different news selections.
Ever thought about it?

This winter one of those eucalyptus on East Olivera opposite the baseball diamond and Pixieland is going to fall and kill somebody. They should be removed.

I had a limb fall this year. A loud crash and a swoosh. Took less than a second! By the time I looked, it was over. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of trimming trees. Especially after extended and back to back draught.

Tomorrow morning, September 02, 2023, between 4:00 am and 8:00 am, the Contra Costa County Mosquito and Vector Control District will be using truck mounted sprayers at the Martinez Waterfront and in Discovery Bay to control the population of adult mosquitoes due to the spread of the West Nile Virus in central and east Contra Costa County.

Awesome accurate rifle … still used … albeit slightly modded … in matches …

“B” for “Me” and is less expensive to make.
‘A’ is tasty and I heard ‘C” can be hard to digest.
🙂
It does appear this weeks big winner is “C” ! ! !

Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs,” read the announcement on Buffett’s website and social media.

10
3

What? I hadn’t heard. 🙁

Not familiar with many of Jimmy Buffet’s songs, but do like “Margaritaville”. For years the Scandinavian Club would have a Hawaiian luau party at our cabin at Clear Lake. We were often 100 or more people. Someone would bring a blender out on the patio and start to make gin fizz’s, and the song Margaritaville would be played on our stereo (back when they had those) or some musical club member would play it on guitar and we would sing along. Needless to say that song always brings back wonderful memories.

“Come Monday” was probably his best.

Fair winds and following seas, Jimmy.

We”ll know where to find you at that one particular harbor.

Saw Jackson Browne, Jimmy and Warren Zevon live at SJSU June 1978 … great show … it was my first concert in California …. boy was it a good one! And that cheesburger in paradise is well done! #investigatemauinow

Have to vent… What mental midget designed the new line layout for Concord blvd? Do they know what a straight line is? Why does the street jog now at every intersection? Merge lanes are gone and you now merge two lanes to one on turns? (under bart tracks) This is stupid and will lead to many crashes. The bike lane is far wider than it needs to be and confusing to drivers, I rode my bike and was terrified. In front of ElDorado westbound it points the oncoming traffic directly at your headlights?? WTF? Eastbound at Clayton way suddenly if you go straight you are in the opposite turn lane? and why are the lines so wide?looks like a child did it.Way to go Concord.

I just drove through there under the BART tracks.
What a joke! All this to accommodate bike lanes. I will never ride my bike in those lanes. Way too dangerous with people distracted with their phones. There will be so many crashes.

PG&E …. the people who are always telling us we need to use less electricity sent this notice which explains….

“First, unusually high market price volatility this past winter caused electricity costs
to be much higher than expected. Second, customer electricity
demand has been much lower than expected through the first half
of the year, which has led to less than is needed to cover certain
costs that PG&E incurs as part of providing reliable generation
service to customers. The combined impact of these factors has
led PG&E to file an application to recover these additional costs
from customers as is required by the state”

So… are they telling us that because we cut back on electricity like they told us to do they now need to RAISE the prices because we did ?

14
2

Yes. Unfortunately, you understand with perfect clarity. I am also PO’d. My position as first tier energy conservationist has been moved to middling excellence! Probably because I have been upstaged by the “free solar on my roof ” group.

Such a well run company, bankruptcy how many times . . . . . . . .

Contra Costa water District did the same thing during the drought. Everyone cut back on water usage so much, they said they weren’t making enough money to cover their costs. So, they “had to” raise the rates to cover it. Funny though, when the drought ended, they didn’t lower the rates back down.

7
1

Yep, we have not increased our usage at all, purchased energy conserving appliances, have always aimed to conserve (water, too), but like others, our bills keep going up and up.

Don’t leave out the push for EVs over and over and over. I’m PGE is all for more and more EVs.

As we drove 80 east I saw a sporty car put his flashers on as he slowed to a crawl. It was raining and hard to see through the downpour. As we passed, we saw it was a Tesla. OMG it had run out of electricity! So dangerous. After midnight, raining, going towards the summit! No one in their right mind would use an EV for long distance travel. Watch out this winter!

Just like CCWD….

Use less and conserve, then raise rates because they didn’t make enough money.

🖕

I hit 400 balls yesterday, played 9 (with cute young Khmer caddie), had lunch, two beers, locker room access, range attendent, ice coffee, … $40 out the door … and to top that … last week I saw a guy break his leg on #1 … yeah, dude snapped his freekin’ femur in two .. he fell off the ball washer …. bhaaaahahaha

5
9

“Fell off the ball washer” LOL! that one killed me JoJo…but about that caddy, boy or a girl?

3
7

Well, in E. Asia, where it’s still #thisisamansworld (James Brown) … they are typically single young women (but legit skilled caddies) looking to find a rich furure husband … I read my own putts … carry my own bag … repair my own divits, etc, etc … so the caddies for me are window dressing … but it’s a thing over here … I don’t mind though, they’re the cutest.

As long as you’re having fun.

cocaine is a hell of a drug. (laughing)

Boat ? ? ?
We don’t need no stinkin’ boat.
https://tinyurl.com/yh4542pn

@ORIGINAL G….I’d hate to untangle a bird’s nest with that set up. It sure would perk up fishing and make it a whole lot more fun.

Remember as a kid folks fishing wide part of Columbia river up north, had two poles.
One for fishing and one hooked to a three foot double hulled boat with a model airplane engine.
Hung a couple pound weight, bait n hooks to a release setup, fired up the engine which would take it 300 or so feet out then jerk second rod killing engine, dropping weight and reel boat back in.
Imagine these days they’re using drones.

OG, Sturgeon fishing?

At the August 22, 2023 Concord City Council meeting, the Council awarded a contract for paving on Willow Pass Road from Avila Road to Landana Drive. This project is extremely overdue.

I have always enjoyed grocery shopping (maybe it’s because my grandparents were lifelong grocers, running a corner store in the Bronx for decades). But I have to share that the relaxed demeanor I used to bear within the aisles has turned into a scowl, mumbling to myself in disgust over the inflated prices.

A few days ago, I stood next to an octogenarian as we gazed in disbelief at the prices of chicken breasts. She shared that she is a widow on a fixed income and how she can hardly keep up. Add to this the rising costs of…well, everything and it just makes me want to holler, “something has got to give!”

I am fortunate to have a good job that’s fully remote, and a home that’s almost paid for. We have always lived within our means, but the continued inflation has been a challenge for us, let alone octogenarians like my parents or those who have been laid off or who have not had comparable COLAs in years. It is outraging and depressing.

How are others coping?

I bought a chest freezer. A roast chicken a week pays for the costco card. Chicken Fajitas, sandwiches, soup. Big bags of potstickers, rice, roast veggies. Peanut butter, nuts, dried fruit. It can be managed with two people. Still, it is pretty sad seeing our peeps counting coins.

Does anyone know what’s going on at Marsh Creek Road near High St. in Downtown Clayton? They are cutting down all the trees on several properties.

@Bill
Just noticed that today……..sure is ugly.

How many of these toys do you remember ?

Good stuff there, Original G. 🙂

@ORIGINAL G… Remember most of them…. no Jarts?…If you sharpened them up they stuck in all kinds of things, like your siblings.

I heard they are building an 81-unit apartment complex in Clayton. What a dump.

Oh…. that got approved? Along with some section 8 provisions as I recall. Oh well, glad I left…
(I know, so is Clayton).

I wish someone from Claycord could get a few photos of this constuction site. I have never seen land cleared like these lots.

It would be more newsworthy than one tree falling down in a park.

Tex-Mex restaurant in Austin, Texas
El Arroyo, is known world wide for sayings on their marquee sign.
Here’s a site that has documented the sign thru the years.

Two more strong arm robberies of seniors in the Rossmoor shopping center this week. The same thieves, same car, and they are still at large.
As usual, the local papers don’t report it.

Robbing Rossmoor residents? Yeah, they’re tough guys alright.

Probably one of those East County Summerset Community Mobs.
Old Duffer Golfers supporting their Devil may care golfer lifestyle with bold hold ups victimizing oldsters who they know won’t dare to fight back.
It’s “Point Break”all over again.

As if more proof was needed that Concord dodged a bullet regarding the NWS development deal:
Seeno wants to build houses in Brentwood, but the latest iteration of Discovery Builders didn’t like what was on the table. They backed out of the deal, sued the city, and lost. So after endless whining about it to no avail, Discovery Builders is once again suing Brentwood. Meanwhile the project in question is shaping up to be another disaster. Citizens are livid and want to reject the whole thing. Sound familiar? Excellent article in East Bay Times covers all the bases.
