Rockin’ Jump (formerly Jump Sky High) on Challenge Dr. in Concord was recently closed (but has since reopened) due to the presence of cockroaches, and Creek House Dim Sum on Parkside Dr. in Walnut Creek was also shut down (but has also reopened) after a complaint inspection found violations after two customers claimed they came down with campylobacter (a bacteria that causes diarrhea).

Just lost my cravings for a Dim Sum meal, sounds like a campylobacter contamination is part of the experience now. Different cultures with different sanitary habits and levels….PASS.

No. Different cultures do not have different sanitary habits and levels! I am Chinese I get sick with campylobacter just like anyone else.

@YEH TUNG..…Well I think different cultures have different sanitary habits, Indians wipe their ass with their left hand and eat with their right hand as do some people from those Middle Eastern countries. You don’t see that here in this culture much.

Very good. I understand Campy Lobacter will no longer be on the menu, unless you order the pu-pu platter.

Sanitary conditions aside I do wonder if the public’s immunity is slipping?

I’d argue that with the rising cost of everything (quality ingredients, pest control, gas and electricity), and diluted hiring pool, businesses are cutting corners where they think they can get away with it.

American’s immunity isn’t slipping, but there are some cultures that are immune to certain germs and parasites because they are used to it. Mexico is a good example. We’ve always been told not to drink the water in Mexico, but Mexicans drink it and it doesn’t affect them.

No we don’t drink the water. I don’t know where you got that idea but in Mexico us Mexicans have water coolers in the kitchen.

I recall a big breakout of food poisoning back in the last 1990s due to a popular fast food place. The question to the local radio doctor was why didn’t everyone who ate there didn’t get sick. He replied that not everyone is effected by such bacteria.

Each person has different genetics and have different life experiences that expose them to pathogens that you may never encounter. “immunity” is not some standardized bodily feature that is the same for everyone. So, some things that make some people sick, don’t affect others.
You’d need a real comprehensive study that spans decades to determine if the public immunity is “slipping”. I’d argue that humans are living longer than ever so public immunity is likely better than decades past.

Yikes! That’s probably what we had last Dec after eating there.

Maybe it’s just me because I eat Mexican food and Indian food a few times a week but if I get diarrhea, I’m just happy is cleaning out my bowels. I don’t test myself for bacteria and then trace it back to the restaurant. Even if I’m on the toilet all night. It would have to be food poisoning for me to Literally alert the media.

Creek House is gross for Dim Sum. Never understood why people rave about this place, it’s a hole in the wall with boxes and junk all over the dining area. Not a pleasant dining experience. Won’t ever be back.
