OK, so I changed my PG&E plan to the “time of use” program to get a lower rate and cut my usage during the high demand period each day between 4pm & 9 pm.

Then I got a new A/C system for the house for more energy efficiency and cooling.

Now PG&E has jacked up their rates to pay for burning down so many houses & pay so many lawsuits and I get the highest monthly bill EVER!

Vanguard… err I mean PG&E thinks they are our nanny. They warned me that my bill was a lot higher than last yet I had already received my usual efficiency mail that showed the same great efficiency as last year for this period compared to other houses. The difference is the more they are charging for energy. We know what crooks are responsible for this. I can’t wait to see them get their just rewards. For now it looks like they just want us dead.

Consider a swamp cooler.
As a kid in Pittsburg would walk home from elementary school come in back door into mud room and stand in front of swamp discharge an dang near freeze.
.
Oldest Grandson and his family house sit for us, that house has a Champion SD4001 evaporation cooler that’s set up correctly and discharge air is 20 – 25 degrees below ambient outside temp. Wet pads filter out dust and pollen, also added UVC lamp to kill off molds and bacteria. On High speed pulls about 8.5 amps 110Vac
.
kids don’t have to leave doors or windows open at night, after we added Up-dux ceiling vents in bedrooms and living room, air goes thru vents and cools attic. Put LOMANCO Whirlybird Wind Turbines to roof to take hot air out of attic, they make a difference. An in the process after cautioning Grandson how sharp sheet metal of vent was put an 1 1/2″ slice and that red stuff started coming out. Such a role model . . . . .
.
In our house put fans pointed to outside and open windows at night then go to bed, close everything up about 6 am. House stays cool most all day may run central air for an hour or two on really hot days.
Next summer we’ll have a swamp with option of AC on back to back 100 plus days.
.
Additional secret, coated inside of swamp cooler with Flex Seal to stop bottom pan and sides from rusting out.

…. I never agreed to the read the meter wirelessly plan – I opted out from day one – all my neighbors agreed to the wireless plan, their bills went way up…. mine didn’t… they still come out to read the meter… just sayin’

My trick these days is to cool the house in the morning. Due to the heat reflecting roof the house seldom gets over 80 by evening. The insulation holds the temp which means some mornings I do have to run AC but just briefly.

Cowellian’s First.
Y’all have a great weekend.

Had static on my phone line, Called AT&T to report the problem. Got the automated response asking for my problem and gave it my answers to my problems and they said I could ask for a human to speak at anytime no luck . After 20 minutes got to talk to a human. The same question l gave to the computer and I said don’t you see the the what I just inputted to your computer ? She said no. Has this ever happened to you?

9
2

When I get a human for customer service, my first question is what country are you in.
There is a vast difference in those who speak English and those who comprehend English.

13
2

You can tell them you want to speak to someone in the U.S. and they have to transfer you.

AT&T is not the same company unfortunately ….

One day my phone line was dead. I used my cell phone to call AT&T. I received a recording saying they don’t recognize my number as one of theirs and it hung up on me. I went to the AT&T store and received major attitude. They are a cell phone only store. Eventually they let me call from there and a repair got scheduled. .

reminds me of the old commercial for AT&T that had a guy who recently switched to another phone company. He kept trying to call someone and got connected to a resort in Fiji twice.

Book report: The Eyes of Heisenberg, Frank Herbert, 1966. Every embryo is checked down into the DNA level and then have bits snipped according to required needs. Only some will be allowed to breed. There are also cyborgs, clones, and the ruling Eternals who were genetically created thousands of years ago. Then suddenly a rogue embryo that has forbidden genes and DNA for both intelligence and fertility. Will it be saved whole or destroyed – and by whom?

Whatever’s clever

Reports are saying those awful paper straws that don’t work are actually worse for the environment because they contain ‘forever chemicals’ that don’t break down. Of course, as you use these straws, that are our only option for straws, we are ingesting these chemicals! Thanks Gavin.

Since my last attempt to bring some US Military small arms history was received so warmly, I feel compelled to continue. Unless of course you’d prefer to vote on three unlikely foods. 😉

The weapon tonight is the Browning Automatic Rifle. Or in ‘gubmint parlance… Rifle, Caliber .30, Automatic, Browning, M1918. A John Browning invention to fullfill the need for suppressive fire system for Expeditionary Forces in Europe when America entered WW1. A sling supported or hip fired light machine gun essentially. Trench warfare being the style of the day, doesn’t seem there was enough of them produced in time to have an effect for The Great War.

WW2 however was different story. There’s no way to tell how many Germans succumbed to the venerable 30.06 out of BARs, but the number ain’t zero and probably numbers in the thousands. Maybe the only reason you’re even here to read this is because of John Browning(?).

The M1918 is a selective-fire, air-cooled automatic rifle using a gas-operated, long-stroke piston rod actuated by propellant gases bled through a vent in the barrel. The bolt is locked by a rising bolt lock. The weapon fires from an open bolt. The spring-powered cartridge casing extractor is contained in the bolt and a fixed ejector is installed in the trigger group. The BAR is striker-fired (the bolt carrier serves as the striker) and uses a trigger mechanism with a fire selector lever that enables operating in either semi-automatic or fully automatic firing modes.

Was a time if a guy knew a guy who knew a guy who maybe knew a guy, he could find a firable example with a decent bore, despite restrictions and laws and what not. For historical purposes of course. Theoretically anyway. I of course know of no such individual(s).
The down and dirty specs:
Mass-7.25 kg (15.98 lb) (M1918)
Length-(47.0 in)
Barrel length (24.0 in)
Action-Gas-operated, rising bolt lock
Rate of fire–500-650 rounds/min depending on ammo
Muzzle velocity- (2,822 ft/s)with M2 Ball
Effective firing range 100–1,500 yards
Maximum firing range approx. 4,500–5,000 yards

This was the weapon used to dissassemble Bonny and Clyde in Bienville Parish. Well, one of the weapons. The one that mattered.

Inform yourself on California firearms laws and restrictions here before purchasing, traveling with, storing or using a firearm. And maybe marry a really good lawyer. 🙁 : https://oag.ca.gov/firearms

Tschüss, Auf Wiedersehen Claycord and Da Mayor!

Hey Now !!!

Carry around a 16 lb weapon for the duration? Not me!
I’d take the M1 Garand, the .30 carbine or Thompson A1….. hey, when I was a kid I watched “COMBAT!” I know better.
The Krauts always shot at the guy with the BAR first.

COMBAT is how I learned what little of the German language I know. The show was excellent until; like most shows, they went to “In Color”. Was their final season; coincidence?

@Atticus Thraxx
We can read about guns AND vote on food choices. Both good! 🙂

Always good to hear from you, Atticus!
Thanks for the BAR history – I didn’t know about the Bonnie & Clyde connection.

ps: I do enjoy the weapons history and stuff.
.
Far from a gun buff; I can never remember the difference between a Clip and a Magazine; I look it up almost every time one or the other is discussed.

I don’t see paper straws anymore. Seems like businesses found alternatives pretty quickly.

Won’t be much long … no humans will handle customer service calls … getting closer by the day … welcome to the future you allowed … when I retire in Okinawa … all the electric stuff going in the sh*tcan … gonna dig a well, build a garden, get some chickens and pigs … gonna live totally free from all the BS … at least that’s the plan … getting close … I can almost taste those farm fresh eggs, bacon and veggies.

B. Never cared for A. and E. Grew some watermelon in the 1980s.

I like any kind of melon S

4
1

@S….I have both in the fridge, I make that choice daily this time of year.

I like both. On a hot day I’ll choose cold watermelon. Sliced into pie wedges.

2
1

Yep, with a salt shaker please.

B . I like both but watermelon is always my first choice.

@S
B & D – Watermelon ice cold.
I also like Honeydew but not Cantaloupe.

All things considered (Note: There was not an All of the Above Option)
.
“B” & “D”
.
🙂

A good follow-up question….I don’t mean the one on your shoulders but, how many people put salt on their melon? I do.

my grandmother was a salt on watermelon person… Wasn’t for me, but….
She would put black pepper on cantaloupe; that I like and still do…

I’ve never heard of that but am now going to give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

Use Kosher salt, just a little.
Don’t use regular table salt, too strong!

Thank you, Dr. Jellyfinger. I don’t have any Kosher salt but I will when I buy my next watermelon.

Ok I’ll say it. Who’s in charge of checking birth certificates for the International Little League World Series teams?

Ok I’ll say it.
Who cares?

The Snoop Dogg Concert is tonight at the Concord Pavilion. I hope the CHP, Sheriff, EMS, and Police have a lot of personnel on overtime. It’s gonna be off tge hook. Good Luck. 246.3 PC

Went to see Culture Club at the Pavilion last weekend. No worries during that one. Good crowd and a good show. The only thing flying around the venue that night was an owl.

4
1

That’s actually rare to see them fly. Typically you only see them perched. I think my son and I are going to Bone Bash this year next month.

@simonpure – It seems like the owl was in the rafters of the stage. The first band came on and after a song or two, the owl flew out from the stage and over the audience. He even landed on a side rail for a few seconds then took off again. It was a very unusual thing to see. Plus, it was only about 7:00 pm and it was still light out. The poor guy was probably so scared and disoriented by the noise and lights he just took off and flew straight out to get away. I hope he was alright.

I remember the novelty hit “Be True To Your Shul” by Oy George and the Kosher Club. That was back in the eighties when people were allowed to have a sense of humor.

High School football kicked off last night. For MDUSD, College Park and Mt Diablo had wins. Both schools have new coaches this year. Mt Diablo had 39 points to Deer Valley’s 29. Good for them. Concord, YV and Northgate all had losses. Northgate was up in Reno. For league, College Park and Northgate play with the Acalanes schools and Benicia. Concord, Mt D, YV, Berean Christian and Alhambra make up the other league. If you have students in the schools or are alumni try to get to a game to support all the students. I hope all the MDUSD teams have a fun, safe, and successful season. Alhambra is the team to beat this year. It probably has more seniors than Mt D and YV have players. BC and Concord also have smaller teams. MDUSD has its problems and that is all the more reason to get out there and support the kids.

A very nice write up Private.
I heard some of the MDUSD Teams are so small that a player might have to play offense and defense the entire game…. Exhausting! ???

Another shooting in Walnut Creek yesterday morning and the CC Times doesn’t even report on it today. They clearly don’t want people to know how much worse things are getting in CCC.

Happened across this website couple weeks ago and decided it’s worth sharing.

Is anyone else having trouble with the freestyle libre continuous glucose monitor? Mine seems to stop working after about six days. The only response I seem to get is the test again in 10 minutes. I test again and I get the same response seven or eight times in a row before I finally get a reading, I’ve tried to contact a company, but after sitting on hold forever, I decided to try and see if anyone else is experiencing the same problem.

Mid-Week Pick One:
.
A) Paper Mate
B) Parker
C) #2 Please

@S….”B”…I’ve carried an all metal Parker Jotter for at least the last 40 years. Like the Buck, Case or Gerber pocket knife I’ve carried in my jean pocket since Meadow Homes was a new school. I don’t leave the house without either.

@S
C)
I cannot seem to hold a pen without marking myself up.

C, please

Anyone remember spending the entire summer barefoot as a kid? Soles of feet would be nicely seasoned like leather after a while. When ordered to wear “shoes” we would reluctantly slip into what are now called flip-flops, usually too small by the end of the summer.

@CALIFORNIA TOAD..…Who remembers when flip-flops were called Zoris?

Isn’t there a car show/soap box derby in Clayton this weekend?
I’ve seen no mention of it this year.
