Dick’s Sporting Goods on Tuesday blamed “organized retail crime” for sinking its quarterly profits by nearly 25% — the latest retailer to reel from the growing “epidemic” of thefts around the country, according to the New York Post.

The popular retail chain reported a 23% drop in profits in the second quarter across its more than 700 stores nationwide — despite sales rising 3.6%.

I’m sure Dick’s anti 2A policies has had nothing to do with it.
Removing high-capacity magazines and raising the purchasing age to 21 — taking all the scary looking semi-auto rifles off the shelf…. no sales, no problem.

They did that over ten years ago, all that has been built into the numbers for a long time. This is theft, it’s been well documented here and elsewhere.

You know what they could use to protect their property…?

WAGE SLAVE,
.
It was in 2018 when they made those changes.

Please don’t bother people with facts.

In 2012 right after Sandy Hook, they stopped selling AR-15s. In 2018 after Parkland, they stopped selling guns to anyone under 21. So you’re both right I guess.

Dick’s in Pleasant Hill opened in 2014, so they never carried AR-15 platform rifles. They don’t carry any firearms for sale to anyone of any age. Fortunately, Big 5 still respects the 2nd amendment to an extent.

Chico,

This was what I was referencing. I’ve been a gun dork for 22 years. Sandy hook was when they cancelled the holiday pre orders for the Troy ARs that people had been expecting, then announced they were hiring an anit-gun lobbyist. I haven’t spent a penny there since.

Their anti gun stance has hurt them, but has been baked into the cake for a while. Their recent losses are all theft.

stopped me from shopping there. Not that I was a big customer, but even the occasional sale lost hits the bottom line.

You betcha! I do not shop there for this reason and I am sure I am not alone.

27

Good to know. I will avoid Dick’s out of principle now. Anti-2A = Anti-American.

See? If I haven’t heard it, it’s news to me!

I didn’t buy shooting supplies at Dick’s to expensive. I will buy some fishing supplies there. If they carry what I need I will go there.

MUCH DESERVED recognition Mr. Mayor !

.
What would you do?
You need a few products, are you going to drive to a brick-n-mortar location only to be met with products behind a locked barrier needing an employee with a key?
Or will you sit home ordering those products with same day delivery ? ? ?
.
Politicians better realize they need to pressure DA’s into strenuous prosecutions of criminals or they could be facing closures of businesses and higher unemployment.
DEM soft on crime, because it’s too expensive to incarcerate, could well cause lasting irreversible harm.

I understand that the posting of this article is a brag for claycord.com, but it occurred to me that telling everyone how easy it is to steal from Dick’s Sporting Goods online (albeit on a news site) only promotes theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods thereby perpetuating the crime. Not to blame the messenger. Obviously you don’t suppress the news, but if I read in the news every week, how easy it was to do a crime it would make me more likely to do that crime. I guess that’s the fault of policing but they can’t be everywhere

Where I work we have undercover security, and they are quite good. Catch quite a few. Can’t go into details against company policy.

8

I bet if you followed up on those arrests you would find that 100% have NOT been held accountable. No fines, jail time, and no community service. This is the reason why it’s so prevalent.

No brag, just fact.

11
2

Uh no, I can assure you that the word spread among these ‘organized’ retail theft groups on Facebook – where they plan their next hit.

So instead of facebook, FBI, CIA CENSORING conservatives on those platforms Maybe they should do their job!!!

@Schmee:
“…how easy it was to do a crime it would make me more likely to do that crime.”
Would it really? Hopefully the difficulty of committing a crime is not the only factor deterring you from doing so.

Relax.
This brand of criminal probably does not read at all.

.
I hope their woke policies and hands-off approach to retail thieves crashes their business even deeper.
.
Idiots.

Get woke. Go broke

41

It’s funny, I thought similar. These stores that have become politically woke like Dicks and Target, are now claiming huge losses due to being stolen blind by the woke crowd they love & support.

41
2

Nailed it.

12
1

“Badge911”. What’s your record for saying “woke” in one day? Like 50? You sound like DeSantis and it’s unfortunate for you.

2
10

Did your feelings get hurt, Robert? Are you offended?

Dicks Sporting Goods barely has anyone working there. You have to put up a flare to get someone to come help you. And the people they do hire don’t care at all. Their problems are their problems. Bye Dicks. You are overpriced anyways.

stopped me from shopping there. Not that I was a big customer, but even the occasional sale lost hits the bottom line.

The Federalist has a writeup today about Concord High being forced to change “The Minutemen” to the “Bears”. I wonder if some of their writers also follow Claycord.com?

I believe it. Thr ghetto wait and sit to watch for people that come out and try to steal stuff even.

The time will come when they meet the chair.

14
2

See Ya Dicks, bring back the damn dome.

29
2

Rampant out of control crime? And why is that plaguing our state? Because that’s what the supporters of the progressive liberal Democrat government voted for and want.

37
2

Or, they are just too dumb too know what they vote for.

27
2

If Dick’s is so stupid to allow these thefts to continue, what do they expect???
Unfortunately, it hurts all other shoppers in higher prices to cover their losses.
Poor businesses practice. No small business would survive in this situation.

25
1

Organized retail crime… with 90% of such a single group of similar people…

29
2

Democrats. In case that was not clear.

27
3

It is only racist if it is untrue… When stats back something up, then it is just fact.

Ha ha!
This makes me happy – congratulations on the nationwide credit, Mr. Mayor!

25
3

That’s funny. I blame Dicks for 100% drop of the best movie theater in Contra Costa. (There’s the DICKS that removed The Dome (muttered under my breath every time I drive by that organized retail theft paradise)..

27
1

Dick’s Sporting Goods has 850 stores nationwide and are blaming a 23% drop in profits on retail crime?

@Jellyfinger – Dick’s, and many other businesses, stopped selling assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in early 2018 in response to the Parkland Florida high school shooting. Many chains, including Walmart and Fred Meyer, also raised the minimum age for firearm purchases from 18 to 21 as a result of this shooting. I doubt a sales downturn in 2023 is relevant to those decisions.

7
25

And yet some people are just now finding out now about Dick’s 2A policies… it’s always news to someone!
I guess Dick’s figures it can afford to alienate a huge number of customers tho, and I repeat “No sale, no problem!” (and no sympathy from me).
Walmart and Fred Meyer are sporting goods stores? I’ve never even heard of Fred Myer…. if it’s anti 2A and full of Chinese crap like Walmart (where I NEVER shop) I’d boycott that store too…. if I ever happen to see one.

6
1

Let me fix that for you.
“…stopped selling semi-auto rifles and standard magazines.”
There.

Being too expensive doesn’t help. It’s just too dang big. Staff is scarce and never watching upstairs or down. You cannot find anyone to help you most days and scumballs take advantage.

25

Hey!….I have an Aunt Barbara!…….is that u Auntie Baba??

5
3

I no longer shop at Dick’s, they lost my business.
If they want to stop retail theft they should install “man-trap doors”!

12
2

I only went there once and didn’t buy anything. Did not seem very versatile. I liked Sports Authority, they had great hiking and walking shoes and clothing. When I use to jog I alway bought my jogging shoes here as well as other outdoor stuffs. I found Dick very lacking in what I needed.

10
3

That last line said it all Hanne!

Cmon u gys!…everybody needs more Dick in their lives!!!………..LULZ!!

3
7

No sympathy – they go nothing to stop theft, they no longer support the Second amendment… my $$ go elsewhere

15
3

Soft on crime policies are to blame. Dicks could just be upset because now they have less money to pay for their employees to murder their unborn children. I don’t spend a penny in that store.

9
3

Perhaps if they collated their theft data they could discover a commonality among the thieves. That might make it easier to thwart future crime. If there were a common characteristic they could be on the lookout for.

12
1

Yes, let’s start profiling!

Profiling works because it follows objective measures.

So are they implying all 850 stores are experiencing mass retail thefts? Don’t think so. It’s a combination of the poor economy, their high prices, poor management and discontinuation of some items. Being overpriced doesn’t help either.

5
4

The consumer has a lot of power and I love my Constitutional Rights!

If it was organized crime, I nominate Diana Becton as lead suspect.

I tried shopping there a few times a while back. The store sucks, they don’t have what I needed (despite all the crap they have on the shelves) and there’s no one to help you. Then they went woke and I just avoid it now. I’d love to see them fold.

Once I went there to buy an umbrella. Not one umbrella in that huge store, not even in the gold section. LOL!

12
1

Go woke, go broke. They probably also supported Democratic candidates who voted for these kind of laws that encourage organized retail crime. Their store sucks and there’s nothing in there that I would ever need. Once they stopped carrying guns, they lost me as a customer.

14
5

Blame everyone else….but don’t look at the facts.

Go woke, go broke.

High prices, out of stock, $hitty/nonexistent service.

No thanks.

11

I went in there once. Mainly because it was hot outside so I went in to cool off. All I saw were clothes and shoes. I don’t even know why they call it a sporting goods store. Never went back.

Thank your friends and fellow citizens who voted for Prop.47/57, which decriminalized most theft and drug crimes. Then add the Soros backed DA’s, no manpower in PD’s (who would want that job in California, now?), and overall “Progressive” policies…who is surprised?

6
1

It’s all available online for less money anyway and you don’t have to dodge criminals running for the front door with their arms full of stolen merchandise.

What shocks me is not the high level of theft, but how little the Police Chiefs, Sheriff’s, Senior FBI and CHP personnel have to say about this. There appears to be no outrage and ideas on how to solve this. Most politicians remain silent on this problem as well. Perhaps they do not want to upset their voter base.

3
1

No. The problem is Dick’s Sporting Goods is a lousy place to shop. It has overpriced merchandise, underpaid/undertrained staff, and scant inventory optimized to rip you off. This is a trend lately of blaming “retail theft” for what is actually a poorly performing business.

2
2

Walgreens and Walmart called. Then their phones got stolen.

Stores will keep closing until you can only buy online. It way safer for a business to operate without all the hassles from thieves. Stores may soon choose the option of order online pick up at the store with no customers allowed in stores.
