The Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials Commission announced it is seeking applicants for two open alternate seats.

The commission is a voluntary body appointed by the county’s Board of Supervisors that makes policy recommendations to the board and county staff regarding hazardous materials and hazardous waste.

The committee has 14 members and alternates, who serve four-year terms, including representatives from industry, labor and civic groups, environmental organizations, environmental engineers, and public and elected officials.

The open seats include the general public alternate and environmental organization alternate slot. Alternates must be prepared to fill in as needed when commission members are not available to attend or vote.

Applicants must live or work in Contra Costa County, have an understanding of hazardous materials, demonstrated interest in related issues, and commitment to the principles of environmental justice as defined in county policy. Once accepted, they must attend monthly meetings as needed.

Candidates for the environmental organization alternate seat should represent an environmental group to which they belong.

Those interested can contact Michael Kent, the executive assistant to the commission, at (925) 250-3227 or at mkent@cchealth.org. Applicants can also reach out to the clerk of the board at the first floor of the County Administration Building at 1025 Escobar Street in Martinez.

Applications may be submitted by e-mail or by mailing them to the board clerk. An online application form is available at contracosta.ca.gov/3418/Appointed-Bodies-Committees-Commissions.

“Applicants must live or work in Contra Costa County, …. and (have a) commitment to the principles of environmental justice as defined in county policy.”
.
That means contrarian positions and opinions are already censored.
.
How can the Commission be truly “representative”?

You nailed it Exit … they only want consenting and approving candidates…. been there with a local city council I was being considered for 2 positions till I made it clear I’ll be objective and not a “yes man”…. dropped like a hot rock
Now if Becton, Bonta, & Newsome could be considered Haz Mat – I’d be willing to be on the commission to oversee their removal 🙂
