The Mount Diablo Unified School District Board of Education voted on Wednesday to change the Concord High School mascot from “Minutemen” to “Bears.”
The board voted 4-1, with Debra Mason voting “No.”
This move comes less than two months after the same board voted to keep the “Minutemen” mascot. On June 29, the board vote was 2-2, with Cherise Khaund absent.
The district says “the Concord High School mascot, as with all school mascots, should instill a positive school spirit among students, parents, staff, and residents, providing a symbol of pride for all members of our community in a way that is culturally and racially sensitive and appropriate.”
The proposed change will cost the district at least $200,000.
Great way to spend tax dollars. 🙄

I would The non profit CCEE has taken over the education system. The resolution mandated name change of certain mascots and also performances base donations in critical race and queer theory. It’s says it in the resolution. I would take my kids out. Grand kids moved.

Well the Bear in the Photo is a Brown Bear (inland variation is a Grizzly) which are no longer found in California, it would hardly be fitting for this school to name a team after an animal that was driven out of the state.

Back in 1995, they covered the painting of the angry minuteman holding the rifle with the bloody bayonet (I’m guessing it was removed shortly after). Then the logo was replaced with a color swapped New England Patriots logo. Over the years other schools followed suit- College Park adopted the Atlanta Falcons logo, Clayton Valley color swapped the U from the University of Miami. As dumb as this situation is, I’m hoping CHS doesn’t go with a repurposed Chicago Bears logo.
I’m surprised it’s not the MinuteLGBGQGBPs(or whatever), in keeping with California woke posturing.

The newly sworn in SB member last night made a comment about history. That the majority of Spanish students didn’t know and didn’t care . So she agrees with the kids she is responsible to educate. Unbelievable what I witnessed about our foundation. And she sworn an oath to uphold the constitution last night.
You don’t have to be white to know about or appreciate the American Revolution! Most Americans aren’t descendants of the Minutemen, and most are not Anglo-Saxons with roots in new England. Who cares?? Why should that matter? Kids aren’t born knowing what they “relate to” in history. It’s the job of educational institutions to educate. Pathetic that any of this even has to be said out loud. Every person with plural brain cells should know this.

Although Minutemen used to be patriotic heroes during the Revolutionary War, there is now a new group that uses this name. I find this disgusting. My daughter said that last year the school ran out of paper. They had no paper for teachers to use in class. But, magically, they now have $20,000 to fund what amounts to a frivolous lawsuit-type of complaint. Diablo will have to be renamed…we would not want to not make our students feel inclusive.

The MDUSD Governing Board has failed to live up to their duties. The third duty listed on the MDUSD website is “Serve as good stewards of taxpayer funds.”
The Board of Education duties include the following :
-Establish policies for the Mt. Diablo Unified School District
-Approve and oversee the school district budget
-Serve as good stewards of taxpayer funds
-Hire and supervise the Superintendent of Schools
-Establish board committees
-Lobby lawmakers and advocating on behalf of the Mt. Diablo Unified schools
-Represent constituents, solicit input on key decisions and listen to concerns and needs of the community
Committee of safety. Other school districts are using the constitutional right to fight back the tyranny

I’m thinking more about this. Next time there’s a vote for bond money to help MDUSD schools, who is going to vote for it? $200,000 to change a sign, band uniforms, athletic uniforms, stationery letterhead, gym signage, etc. is a waste of taxpayer money. Unless they plan to remove all past awards from the school office and gym, the Minuteman is still going to be there. This was not necessary at all.
This is also after Ygnacio Valley dropped the Warriors name (our pro basketball team has that name and all is well). I suspect Mt. Diablo will be next (the Devil). How many $200,000’s do they think the tax paying public is going to stand for? I am a Democrat, always have been, and this vote is a bridge too far, in my opinion.

Years and years ago, I was taking the school board to task over some issue, and Mayo “accidentally “ cc:d me on an email to other board members that was very derogatory towards me.

What a disappointment. As a former student and son of a former board member, it saddens me to hear. I find no justification for using money that should be going to student needs but instead is being used to placate the few in order shore up reelection and avoid being cancelled. Shame on you MDUSD board members who allowed this to pass. Your district has so many other needs than this. Sorry students, you lose on this one.

This certainly got the Claycord Brain Trust’s knickers in a twist. I always thought Minutemen was a bizarre mascot choice for a California high school. I figured the school’s first principal must have been from Massachusetts. It seems a bit strange to have a specifically male mascot for a co-ed school. But I guess back in the day, no one gave that a second thought. Sports were for boys while the girls decorated the gym for the pep rally and cheered on the team. The good old days before we went “woke”…. When men were men and girls knew their place in the world. Bears is an appropriate – if boring – replacement. I guess we should consider ourselves lucky they didn’t go full “woke” and pick a female American hero mascot to make up for all the years of a male mascot. Can you imagine the Concord High Suffragettes Football Team? The horror!

It actually should have been part of Freshman orientation. Upon welcoming students to their new school, they also get a brief history lesson on their new mascot.
The schools were taken over by marxists more than 30 years ago. Is everyone just noticing? We’ll always be Concord Minutemen. In the 90s, they actually had segregation in full swing. Mexican club doing whatever during class time. Separating kids from their peers and allowing banners like “brown pride” to be plastered everywhere. Multiple groups and clubs for non whites. But don’t dare be white and proud. We tried to point out the hypocrisy, but were told these poor minorities come from war torn countries and need a boost. Some of us knew what these freak commies were doing the whole time. Kinda surprised they didn’t go with something more hispanic for the new name.
The SB resolution 20/21-80 changed the school system. A Trojan Horse brought in the darkness of ZOOM ( meeting ). Critical Race and queer theory Agenda 30 , now that agenda 21 was completed, the non profit big money donors and teachers union , are committing crimes to the oath of office.

The Student Representative on the MDUSD Board basically said the student body at CHS is 60% Hispanic and they can’t relate to the Minutemen mascot.
Students are no longer actually taught American history, with the good and the bad or even restructuring of the ugly omited parts, as you or I would have been. These past couple decades they’ve only been taught about American Imperialism.
Wow my yearbook is going to be a part of history now! “Home of the minutemen”.. Yknow us male students wanted that changed a long time ago when other schools would call the guys “minute men” in reference to bedroom activities. No but seriously bears?? It’s fitting though, a boring mascot for a boring school.
All this is made possible by entitled school board members that have this delusion that they know what’s best for everyone.
Has any shared or does any know which company will be receiving the marketing contract to design, rebrand, install i.e. signs. Who owns the company? Will a Request For Proposal/bids be completed?

This is so disturbing. Almost a quarter of a million dollars, of tax payer money, on something that does not directly affect student achievement. Time to vote this board out and vote in adults who truly understand the academic and emotional needs of kids.
