One of the most dangerous cars ever sold in significant numbers. However, my wife and I survived 250,000 miles in our ’66 Beetle.

My first car, 1957 Volkswagen Beetle. It was a puke salmon color, but my Dad painted it Kelly green and painted the top with a textured gold paint. Looked like a convertible.

’74 Chev short bed van ….. used it to haul dirt bikes, then could sleep in it…. it could go anywhere… ’74 was last year you don’t have to go through a bi-annual smog check. It had a 350 4 bbl.. but was weak due to emissions then (150 HP)- now you could bolt in a potent 350 with ease (350 hp easy)

My 1982 BMW538e. Had it for 11 years, bought wiht my exhusband. Picked it up at the factory in Munich. very nice facility, and they served us free lunch in their employee’s cafeteria, which was very nice and uspcale, don’t know if it was for all their employees, or just the higher ups? By buying it in Germany, we saved $5000.00 and because we were able to put a certain amount of miles on it, (we toured Germany and neighboring countries and then up to Denmark to visit my family)when we shipped it back to the states, it was considered a used car and thus no taxes were due. The other car I loved was my boyfriends (1968 to 70) 1965 Corvette Sting Ray, but I never drove that car, was just a passenger.

@Chevy Girl
I love it!

’78 Subaru Wagon with manual transmission. Got about 50 mpg on the highway and drove like a sports car. But no one else could drive it because they had long forgotten how to shift gears even if they learned on a manual. So the next vehicles had auto transmission. I think the wagon was about $2800.

1965 Buick Skylark. Had a 300 police built engine. My grandfather bought it new of the lot, passed it to my father who then passed it to me.

1985 Toyota 4×4

.
That was a good model year.. .the one-year solid front axle with the newer, square body style and a few more amenities.

Ferrari F430 Spider with a gated (manual) transmission.
.
Sold it to get a 458 Italia. The F430 was the last model you get get with a manual and three pedals. Now everything is paddle-shifted.

As a hobby, I’ve been working on cars, and building hot rods most of my life, so I’ve had many cars, especially old Ford’s and Chevy’s. Out of all of them, I wish I would have kept the ’72 Chevy pickup. In my opinion, 1972 was the last year real pickups were made. All steel and no plastic. When you pop the hood, there was a nice small block 350 with lots of room to work on it. Pickups nowadays, are built too much like a car, with too many bells and whistles, and too much plastic. When I was a teenager, one of my favorites was the 1940 Ford coupe.

My 1965 Burgundy Ford Mustang, with a black interior. It was my first car when I got out of college.

There was a 1968 Mercury Montego I was pretty fond of… it was actually my Dad’s car & he bought it for us kids to drive but it was so fast Mom made him sell it…. (sigh).

I had a friend that had a 1968 Mustang, he would let me drive whenever l visited him. Great car.

My first car – 1967 Mustang coupe. Bought it in 1982 when I got my learner’s permit before age 16. Had lots of issues and broke down often. It’s not even my favorite Mustang when contemplating “dream cars” but I loved it and wish I still had it.

1974 Chevy Impala, 400 small block. For a family car, that thing was quick off the line.

Hubby had a 1964 Chey Nova, 3-speed on the column.
We sold to help with closing cost on our house in 1979.
Best little zip around car.

Graduating from High School that year sis.

1969 Porsche 911T. It was Dad’s car from when I was 5 until I got my permit….then he sold it. Always wanted to drive that car.
2007 (I think) Cadillac Seville STS with a Northstar engine. A luxury car that drove like a sports car. The engine alone made it the most exciting ride I ever owned. Until the rings and oil pan seal went bad and I was going through a quart of oil every month.

My first car, a 1960 850 Mini. That was the first year (before the Cooper versions), but I bought it used. It had 848ccs, 37.5 (fire breathing!) HP and weighed 1,230 pounds. It was flat out at 80MPH. It was a hoot to drive, especially downhill and doing handbrake U-turns and putting it sideways with the handbrake. I loved driving it, but hated owning it because it had typical British car reliability. It was down for repairs or maintenance about 1/4 of the time I owned it.

I don’t suppose the handbrake U turns or the driving it flat out at 80 mph had anything to do with the “typical British reliability issues”?

My 1969 Z/28. It was a great car. Always thought they would be making better cars the next year, didn’t happen.

By far it would be my 1969 Yenko Camaro 427 SYC, it was my cousin’s car. He went to Vietnam at the age of 18, and was killed in action in Cambodia at the age of 19. My Aunt and Uncle saved his car for me, I was his favorite cousin, but I was too young to drive. They put the car up on jack stands in the barn and covered it until I was old enough to drive. They gave it too me on my 15th birthday and made me promise that I would get a summer job too pay for new tires and break lines before I drove it at 16 years old. My uncle worked in the racing division and was a big wig for Chevrolet in Detroit.

I kept my promise too them and put new tires, break lines and had the gas tank, and flushed the radiator, along with a new spark plugs and distributor points, the car was an absolute beast. By the time I could drive the car, it had at least 4 coats of wax on it and looked better than it did new. I drove that car for until I was 18 years old until it was ripped off out of the driveway of my parent’s house one night, never to be seen again, it made me sick, and still does thinking about it. I would give almost anything I have to have that car back.

Nice story, even though it is sad.

1970 Chevy Chevelle Super Sport convertible. Very rare optioned car with a 454. Me and a friend who was a body man bought it, painted it and did some minor repairs. We flipped it for a $10,000 profit. Unfortunately, it would be a $150,000 car now, but I used my $5,000 to move to California.

2022 Tesla model x. Goobermint told me to buy it because it was good for the environment and gas
Prices not a problem anymore. Then, goobornor Gavin Nuisances said you can’t plug it in because it was too hot with the heatwave. Got repo’ed because couldn’t afford the $1500 monthly payment. Can I get reparation money?

My 2008 Bullitt. 40th anniversary collectors edition, numbered. That car was a beast. 0-60 in 5.2 seconds. Wish I didn’t have to sell her, was a fun machine to drive.

’56 Chevy gasser.

First car I bought was a 1957 International Travelall from a co-worker in SF. It was surplus from Washington State as a park ranger vehicle. Had 3 on the tree, a back door missing and was a real party vehicle in the Height-Ashbury in the early 70’s.
But the one car I wish I still had was a 1965 Olds 442. Bought it used from O’Connor Motors on 9th and Lincoln Way in SF about mid 70’s. Red 2-door, black interior w/buckets, 400 cu in, 4-bbl, 4-spdl and no air. A total sleeper and could light them up for a block. Gas was cheap back then!

I sold my husbands 1969 Dodge Charger after our son was born. I don’t think he’s quite forgiven me yet….

I 1990 when I was stationed at Pendleton and living in W Hollywood with my lovely wife and her four sisters … I saw an ad for a 1966 Impala SS/327 … asking price $1500 … the seller was in Palmdale … a real methy motorhead type … long story short … he put a 65′ L79 Vette engine into her … other than that … bone stock … that car … sighhhhh

My 1987 Mitsubishi Mirage. A reliable and cute little car that I had when I was young and single and it brings back great memories.

My ‘67 VW deluxe Microbus. 21 widows and a sunroof. Bought it in 1983 for $3400 from Dr. Laser Nightsky, the name on the pink. Stopped driving it after my son was born in ‘89. Didn’t think it was safe. The interior was built by some hippie out of plywood, no seatbelts. It sat on the side yard for a few years until some kid asked to buy it. Sold it for $2k, it would be worth around $100k now. My son still says he wished I’d saved it.
