Benicia Man To Spend 1 Year In Contra Costa County Jail After Being Found Guilty Of Child Exploitation Crimes

34-year-old Benicia resident William Michael Gogas was sentenced to one year in the county jail in Martinez and will be required to register as a lifetime sex offender after being convicted of arranging to meet a minor for sex and unlawfully communicating with a minor.

At the trial, evidence was presented that demonstrated — on or about December 9, 2021 — Gogas knowingly engaged in sexually explicit text messages with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old boy — but was an undercover detective with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

The evidence further established Gogas arranged to meet the minor at a location in Martinez to engage in illegal sex acts. When Gogas arrived at the meeting location, he was taken into custody by members of the Contra Costa County Safe Streets Task Force and charged in a criminal complaint on December 13, 2021.

Parents are encouraged to discuss online safety with their children, and can visit the website kidsmartz.org, commonsensemedia.org or the District Attorney’s website for further information.

Thank you. I admit I did not read all… I have a hard time with the subject matter. I’m betting this was not his first rodeo, so to speak. So he’ll be all of 35 when he gets the next chance.

I wonder if the sentence would have been different had the decoy intended victim been a female?

One year.

Humph.

He should be put in a position where he can never contact a minor again.

Unbelievable simply unbelievable. If he isn’t back at it after a year in jail, that’s if he puts in the whole year in jaIL it will be a miracle. Crime marches on. If you want to feel better look up the video of the thief getting beat with a stick in a 7/11.

It looks his original charge, CP, was dropped down to “possession of obscene images of a minor.” I don’t know where the line lies between the two charges, and I am not available to look it up at the moment, apologies.
Apparently whatever material that the L.A.P.D. removed from his house, ended up with what the LA.P.D. admits was a an accident if their part, they dropped some actual CP evidence from another case into the evidence box for Ruebens’ case.

A plea deal is supposed to be done in good faith from a District Attorney, and a guaranteed outcome as opposed to a jury trial. It is also cheaper and quicker in the long run. Ruebens’ had to register with the Sheriff for 3 years the location of his residence but that’s is. People convicted of CP don’t get to not be registered with Megan’s Law, a national registry that is publicly and readily available to pull information from. I don’t know how LA does it, or wherever Ruebens’ was living at during that period of time.
Oh, it was in the late 90’s. So it’s not like after this incident he was making public appearance as Pee-Wee.
All to say that Paul Ruebens is not a sexual offender. He did perform “funny dances,” and made an amount of people laugh. The majority of those instances were not at the same time as said “obscene images.” For whatever that is worth in response to your insinuation of what he may or may not have been doing while his show was airing or anything like that.

I copied the URL I found with a quick search, at the beginning of my reply. He can defend himself.
It’s not ok for an adult to exploit a child. I don’t think that is what happened in this instance.

This is one of the crimes that the punishment should be painful. Like that crook who got his legs and backside beat by the broom handle, if it was understood that if somebody tries to pick up a minor, as above, the perp would have to suffer severe beatings with a stick, a cane, where the pain is tremendous, but no long term/permanent damage, perhaps some of these creeps would think twice. Much more effective for we taxpayers, as a broomstick is considerably cheaper than housing a scumbag for 9 months to a year. Do you think activist legislator scott weiner would draft some sort of law, to help protect children?
