Contra Costa Supervisors Get $1.18M Check From Congressman DeSaulnier To Train Police

U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Walnut Creek, presented the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday a $1.18 million check from the federal government meant to train police on “adolescent development and effective youth interaction.”

The money will go to the county’s probation department as part of a community project funding initiative known as Strategies for Supporting Youth in the Community.

DeSaulnier said the low numbers of offenders in Contra Costa County’s juvenile hall reflects the county’s ongoing effort to intercede with young people instead of incarcerating them.

“We’re really a model in this state and around the country for thoughtful intervention and prevention,” DeSaulnier told the board, of which he was once a member.

Contra Costa County Chief of Probation Esa Ehmen-Krause said her department will offer a “really comprehensive, evidence-based training” to county law enforcement agencies.

“It’s a train the trainer model,” Ehmen-Krause said. “So they’ll be able to go back to their independent jurisdictions and departments and then train their staff on it.”

The probation department will then do official evaluations on how the program is being implemented in various police departments.

The only way Markey knows how to solve a problem is to throw money at it. Hold on to your wallets it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Whenever they use the term “evidence-based” what they really mean is “Ignore the evidence” and don’t arrest the young criminals.
They really should use this money to convince young criminals that having a relationship with handcuffs is no fun.

The police are already trained..quite throwing our tax money indiscriminately away on useless ventures..

There’s a low number of offenders because the DA does nothing. No bail or incarnation just citations. Thats how they make the stats look like crime has dramatically dropped. Which of course is just smoke & mirrors. No one’s in jail because no one’s being prosecuted & the majority of people don’t even report crimes anymore for that same reason. Why waste your time for nothing? Than of course if you do prosecute they just plead all the felony’s down to misdemeanors so it looks like crime has dropped to just petty things. Again smoke & mirrors.

Over a million for this. That must be one expensive instructor. Liberals just keep at it. At first I thought the money was to train new police officers. I should have known better.

Yes, and the instructors will probably be acquainted with the county supervisors. Spread the money around.
Hope they bring in the donuts from King’s or Chicks.

It would be much more cost effective for CCC to replace the current DA with someone who actually prosecutes criminals. Criminality runs rampant because consequences aren’t enforced. I’m certain that the salary of a competent DA is a fraction of $1.18M.

Wait a minute…I thought we want to defund the police; damn you Mark! We could use that grant to forgive the fine of the low income toll evaders. Damn you

First of all, the money presented today is our own tax dollars coming back to us after being run through the Federal washing machine, which is a very costly laundry service.

Second, once the money flows through the county mechanisms, there will be little remaining save a facade to appease the people.

A billy club and prison time will do more than any fed-mandated training.

I believe most people in this country are unaware of how fortunate we are to be represented by Mark DeSaulnier. He is a treasure, despite what some of the people who write comments on Claycord spout. Thank you, Congressman, for all your hard work.

CONCORDREZ is still living in a state of bliss.

I have friends who know the congressman personally. They like him because “he’s a real nice guy.” That’s It.
Nothing but indifference about his politics. Meh.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha … good one!

I love starting my day with a hearty #horselaugh

@ConcordDrez
Country, you said country?
I bet people outside of California, apart from those who used to live here —more specifically CCC— have no idea who he is.
It is possible that many who live in the county, or even Con-cord, don’t know who he is.

Just a way to give law enforcement more money that they can spend without oversight and without need to show specific evidence of benefit to the public so that the law enforcement unions will fund whatever his next political campaign might be.

When the DA doesn’t follow through and file charges, then it’s just more proof that democrats are not interested in solving the problem.

“Evidence-based?” You’re spending taxpayers money ; I damn well want to see the evidence and proof that this money is being spent appropriately.

No evidence? No proof? Then those beneficiaries of the money ought to be arrested and charged with fraud.

Of course, the DA will ignore that, too.

@concordrez- just keep your head in the trough that Marky keeps filling. You’re obviously unaware of the larger picture; anything beyond the party line.

Learn to think for yourself.

It is NOT the responsibility of a Police Dept to raise or discipline childen…

A scared straight program would be a much better avenue to take.

WOW! I didn’t know Markie Malarkie had that much money to give out of his OWN POCKET!
To teach the police NOT to arrest “PEOPLE OF COLOR”.

Thinking the low numbers in juvenile hall have more to do with catch and release.

You mean it’s coming from marks own account. Wow how generous. Like the lady who said Obama pays her welfare checks.

So deeulner takes credit for giving away our money. He didn’t give it. We tax payers were swindled out of it.

This is a little off the wall but I was thinking about it the other day. When I was a kid in Chicago there were two kids in the neighborhood whose father was a Chicago cop. That guy was meaner than a junkyard dog. If he was as tough with criminals as he was with his kids look out. Wonder how he would act if he was policing today?
