New Programs Offered For Those With Overdue Bridge Toll Violation Payments

Those with overdue payments from toll violations on Bay Area bridges can now take advantage of new programs designed to make paying off late fees easier, said the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

Bay Area FasTrak now offers payment plan programs open to any low-income residents who have received toll violations on bridges or express lanes. Those who qualify for the program can have their violation penalties waived and pay off any remaining balance of at least $100 with a payment plan, according to a MTC press release.

Additionally, the Bay Area Toll Authority now offers one-time full or partial penalty waivers through September 2024, which are open to anyone regardless of income level.

These programs are not limited to Bay Area residents, but anyone with penalties or fees related to toll violations. Those interested in the programs can mail a paper application to the MTC at P.O. Box 316, Concord, CA, 94522, send a fax to (844) 554-6084 or apply at their website at bayareatollpaymentplan.org.

An after eliminating toll takers how much money have they lost from people who sand reflective paint off license plates or cloned fast pass.
Cops don’t bother to give tickets for defacing plates.
How many tens of millions have they lost or are owed?
.
An what signal does it send, . . . . wait long enough and they’ll cut you a break to get pennies on the dollar.
In CA economy comes down to pay or put food on table, pay rent and keep utilities on.
Wonder how many people DEMs have driven below poverty line by making it so expensive to live in CA?

Well, they are not owed anything. These tolls seem pretty underhanded and illegal.

ORIGINAL G,
.
While I can’t say if Concord Police Department Officers cite travelers that have defaced license plates by sanding off the reflective coating, I can tell you that they do cite travelers that have plates where the reflective coating has come off naturally from sunlight damage. One particular officer that cites travelers for the loss of reflective coating from license plates is an absolute MONSTER!!!!!!!!!

How old is your plate that the reflective paint has worn off?

Concord PoPo also question out of state vanity plates. Last time I was actually in Concord, which was 2 years ago (at this point when I visit the bay area I avoid Concord) I was pulled and question about my out-of-state sports team vanity plate. Gee ummmmm same plate is on front and back of my vehicle and the back plate has legitimate tags on it. Well his little bubble was bust when my registration also listed said plates on it.
News flash Concord PoPo – most states issues pro and college logo plates and local icon plates as well. Most of my family in WA drive with Seahawk plates or JP Patches plates. Gee it would be kind of cool to have Capt Satellite plates or Mayor Art plates in the bay area.

Don’t understand this one. This system was put in place partially to prevent fair evaders…. (not to mention getting rid of toll takers) now we are giving them a break? Unpaid tolls go directly to DMV and your registration….if you do not pay your reg it goes to the franchise tax board and is deducted from your paycheck whether you like it or not “It is automatic”. Just my opinion but these are the fair evaders this program was after in the first place so WTF?

I wonder how much tax payer money it will cost to get $100 of fees waived? Less government now.

Anyone know what happens to unpaid tolls? Will DMV not allow you to register car? Will a Warrant go out for you just as if you didn’t pay your traffic tickets? Otherwise , why pay them? people will just keep crossing if no ones going to do anything . What’s next? Cheaper gasoline , cheaper groceries , cheaper utilities ? I have not bought a house in Malibu nor have a purchased a Ferrari , know why? Can’t afford it! That’s why. If you can’t afford the basic cost of living in the area maybe it’s time to move on. How about the state lowers the toll? No more toll takers should have saved cal trans millions

If they have a clean picture of the plate they send a bill. If the bill is ignored it is attached to the vehicle registration, so it does pop up when registration is due. They can also attach the toll/fine to out-of-state vehicles and those states can add fees for collecting the CA toll/fee.
FYI to anyone who is thinking of moving out of state, most other states have NO grace period when it comes to vehicle registration.

The only challenge with attaching it to the car registration is that folks just don’t pay their car registration feeds. Look around and see how many cars are out there with expired tags. I see a late model BMW regularly on Taylor Blvd that expired in early ’22. Obviously the driver has no concerns with driving it because he knows that they will not be pulled over and cited (or impounded which is what SHOULD happen).

I think we should pull every car over with expired or missing plates and start impounding the cars. Then attaching these fees to the registration will mean something.

Old timer August 1, 2023 - 5:42 PM - 5:42 PM

Either pay or no registration renewal easy as pie.Next take the car sell it at auction.

So Bay Area residents are paying for people who aren’t from the Bay Area? Why not eliminate the bridge tolls for all?

They should not even be a thing. Instated to pay off the bridge, they just keep making us pay more ad more.

One thought that keeps crossing my mind is to add a small amount to property tax and eliminate the tolls.
People in Southern CA and outside the bridge area may not like the idea though.
For the record, yes I do pay property tax.

If the democrats have their way there will be three classes of humans here in the US::
The democrat government that owns and controls everything, a small population working class taxpayers that pays for everything, and a majority that does nothing, keeps the democrat government in place, and is supported and provided for by the democrat government.

Consider the stellar track record of this state.
Project to build just HALF a bridge,
it was completed TEN YEARS LATE and $5 Billion over budget.

If you elect DEMs, lower your expectations and be prepared to be very disappointed.

THE BLACK KNIGHT August 2, 2023 - 2:00 AM - 2:00 AM

From January 01, 2021 to May 31, 2022, there were unpaid past due bridge tolls totaling $50 million and $134 million in late fees, for a combined total of $184 million. Using the same math, we can conclude from June 01, 2022 to July 31, 2023 an additional estimate of $42 million in unpaid past due bridge tolls has accumulated, with an estimated $112 million in unpaid late fees, totaling an estimated $154 million.
.
DMV can attach a lien in the amount of unpaid bridge tolls and penalties to annual vehicle registration fees. As of today, I’m unsure if they’ve done so?

Thank Willie Brown for his “landmark bridge” which looks like about any other recently built long bridge elsewhere in the world. They put tolls back on bridges which had been paid off to pay for that “landmark”.

How about fix the toll lane that has been closed due to an accident 3 years ago.

Cautiously Informed August 2, 2023 - 3:42 PM - 3:42 PM

Where does all the money go? How much is collected each day on the Bay Bridge? 260, 000 cars cross each day, so 1/2 of those travel the toll direction – $7.00 times 130, 000 each day. Where does it all go?

It’s another example zero accountability government. It’s the fox guarding the henhouse.

Old-school guy August 2, 2023 - 3:46 PM - 3:46 PM

It’s about character. If they didn’t pay up front, good luck in getting it now.
