A little history,
I remember growing up hearing about Nike missiles,

Perspective time…..Million vs. billion…… It will take about 11 days to count to a million (no sleeping!). 33 years to count to a billion.
Bonus fact: 10 factorial, 10!, (10x9x8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1) is exactly equal to the number of seconds in 6 weeks. Useless, but cool. Or dumb. Who decides?

Speaking of Sillycone Valley’s #2 creepazoid … saw this on Insta just now:

cnbc Facebook users have less than one month left to apply for their share of a $725 million settlement over the social network’s privacy violations, part of the lengthy fallout from the Cambridge Analytica scandal that rocked the U.S. electoral process and Silicon Valley.

The settlement, signed in December 2022, was the largest class action settlement of its kind, according to the law firm that brought the class action suit. In all, the Cambridge Analytica scandal cost Meta, Facebook’s parent company, nearly $5.9 billion. Beyond the $725 million settlement, the company paid a record $5 billion settlement to the FTC, alongside a further $100 million to the SEC.

@ORIGINAL G….Huell Howser had a show about the Mothball fleet, maybe 2 episodes, pretty good tour, some of the ships were always sea worthy even down to full dinner silverware. Also, search YouTube for “restored Nike missile sites”, there’s a couple restored and functioning. Might be a California Gold episode with Huell…….

WTF was going on Saturday morning around 8am to completely shutdown 24 westbound at Acalanes blvd? Seems you cannot travel anywhere in bay area unless it’s middle of the night for little traffic

Sitting dead stop for 20 mins and then 3 mph. Ridiculous…

Joke

I tell my friends I’m there for them 24/7.
It sounds better than saying I’m there for them on the 24th of July.

Sad news to report … got a phone call late last night … one of my kids was struck by a semi-truck crossing the highway and died …

… ahh … it’s ok … we goat farmers are a pretty tough bunch.

I guess you don’t have children. I just can’t imagine anyone that have children would tempt fate this way.

@Hanne
I think JoJo is just “kidding” around. 🙂

Yes, l get it’s a joke and l have a good sense of humor, and he is entitled to his sense of humor. I for one could never make a joke like that. If something happened to my child l would feel l had tempted faith. Just my superstition same with joking about cancer or death. Too hot to handle

She sure spends a lot of time talking about a joke that she didn’t get until it was explained to her.

See nothing wrong with her post, some folks have strong feelings on certain subjects and they are entitled to those feelings. Regard it as giving insight to her values and I thank her for her post.

Why don’t you read my post before you comment. I got the joke.

OG, Thank you for your support. My comment about reading my post was for Nanny Hanny.

guessing the tidbit of common knowledge isn’t so common? Maybe generational? Regional?
.
I got the Clown’s joke right of the bat….
With H J being from overseas; maybe she doesn’t know the term in this usage.
.
More Important: From other day’s Water Cooler: What did H J have for dinner when she arrived in Pasadena?
.
So many important questions to be asked and answered on this Sunday….

I have posted several jokes here. This has nothing to do with Karen vibes. This was installed in me from childhood, many. many years before political correctnes and karenvibes. I feel it is tempting faith, you apparently don’t, that’s all. I do know a baby goat is a kit.

Book report: The Descent of Anansi, Larry Niven & Steven Barnes, 1982. Space opera with all the trimmings. A wire that will change life on Earth. So tough it can cut though just about everything and will be hung between the Earth and the Moon. A triangle on board the delivery ship: She is the pilot, husband is engineer, boyfriend is co-pilot. Space pirates sabotage and try to steal the wire. Fights, space walks, etc and et al. A fun space opera to enjoy.

Who is Mechelle Fong? Every year at the the 4th of July Parade she sings, and I feel like I should know who she is, or what’s her connection to Clayton.

Does anyone have information about some sort of a gun shot happening on Thursday night near the Kansas Circle Highlands area?

I don’t remember much chatter about it but I learned this week that Mexico is still on Standard Time. They, as many tropical countries do, stopped using Daylight Time as of this year. Those countries learned long ago that the sun doesn’t change much latitude in the tropics, so DST is superfluous.

Why are people in Concord not taking any pride in their yards lately , get out and pull those weeds , mow the weeds , something , your neighbors will appreciate it

21

Amen!!! Have the same problem.

8
2

Clayton has their fair share of lack of yard upkeep as well. Million$+ homes and many people seem like they have no money to hire a landscaper or too lazy to get out and do it themselves.

5
13

Probably because there are more weeds than they have time to pull. In my area the nearby park got overrun with weeks (particularly milk thistle) which spread to many yards. Seems like one gets rid of the weeds these days and in two weeks they’re back. Plus the price of ground clearing sprays has gone through the roof. Gardening is not everyone’s hobby and gardeners are charging more. Blame the pandemic.

10
5

In almost every case the owners are retired and active. Luckily I don’t know ve near them, but occasionally drive out that way and see it.
It is what it is I’m sure we do or don’t do things people don’t like also.

13

Buy ’em a goat.

3
1

@EL JEFE….Some people on here hate leaf blowers and lawn mowers, they “blow carbon everywhere”.

10
2

I don’t look like the noise, I don’t care about their pollution.

4
18

I’m tired of driving down the street and having gardeners blowing dirt and leaves into the street as cars pass. Maybe the property owners should be billed for car washes

12
18

The best time to pull weeds is after a rain when the ground is still damp, they easily come up roots and all. I always pull them before they reach an inch tall, then spray the spot with weed killer. They do not grow back until the following year.

10
1

I hear ya Dawg. I water to make it easier to pull them. Unfortunately I cannot spray because I have a tortuous that is an eating machine. Now if I could only get him to graze in even rows 🙂 I could retire the mower.

9
2

Maybe they are seniors and can’t get out and pull weeds anymore. They might have health issues. Possibly no money to hire someone or don’t trust workers they may hire. It may be a rental property. It might be a good idea to go ask your neighbor if they need some help with their yard weeds. Back in the day neighborhood kids would go a cut lawns and pull weeds for a few bucks.

15

Thank you, Bill. The best way to have a good neighbor is to be a good neighbor. A win/win situation.

NYTEMUVR,

I did respond to your Matt Dillion comment on a different thread.

Whee! Fun for me. Just found out that the American Sewing Guild will be holding their annual Conference in San Francisco next June. I might forgive BART for that time frame (with fingers crossed).

Found on one of the many sites I visit.
Comments are worth a read.

Yesterday I watched the entire two hours of the congressional hearings on UAPs/UFOs and have two comments. One is that it’s about time our government starts taking seriously the hundreds of reports from qualified people that we have visitors that may or may not be a threat to our civilization. My other observation is that members of both parties were able to address the issue at hand without one single hint of which party they belonged to, now that we may all have a common enemy. I hope we can see more cooperation like that between the members in the future. Everyone was respectful of the time limits as well, to my amazement.

P.S. I know three people very well who were military pilots or airline employees who told me about their own observations, which were basically ignored. One was a B-26 pilot in Korea who, along with the rest of the crew, saw a bright orange object flying alongside their plane for several minutes. They reported it, the report was sent to 5th Air Force HQ, and it was dismissed as Saturn, even though they were under a cloud cover. His story is in his memoirs, A NAVIGATOR’S ODYSSEY, by Alex Brewer.

Angry American,
blancolirio YouTube channel was my go to during Oroville spillway failure and any large wild land fires. Juan, commercial pilot, does good job of digging out details.

Hello all,
This is my first time posting here. I want to make sure parents know about the MDUSD Parent Conference happening on Saturday, August 12. Here is the link for the flyer. https://www.mdusd.org/about/news/news-details/~board/news/post/parentconference
Parents will have the opportunity to choose workshops based on their interest. The Keynote Speaker is Dr. Lettie Ramirez, author of “You are not alone: Recipes to Obtain Success By Parent for Parents.” Dr. Ramirez is is a Professor Emeritus of Teacher Education at Cal State East Bay. Workshops will be held in English, Spanish and Dhari.
Hope to see you there!

CalFire incident website does not give accurate picture of fires in state.
For a true picture of fire activity use InciWeb
https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/
example, InciWeb shows 77,000 Acre fire on federal land, CalFire website doesn’t show it.
In past CalFire would list fires on federal land, but no longer.
While both are bookmarked have InciWeb as first choice for information.
