BART trains are running at slower speeds Saturday between Orinda and Pittsburg/Baypoint and between Castro Valley and Dublin/Pleasanton stations stations due to the warm weather.
In an advisory, BART officials said to plan to add 10 minutes to a normal commute time.
Real-time updates can be found at BART’s official website bart.gov.
So glad we spend hundreds of millions to have a clean, top of the line state of the art public transportation train to take us all safely, efficiently and effectively to our destinations, all at a reasonable price.

I detect…. sarcasm.

Well done!

Ahh Thank you. Thank you. My work here is done!
Are you talking about BART?
Just shut it down already
Why is BARF running trains at slower speeds in this warm weather? I don’t see Amtrak reducing their speed in the Bay Area.
Bart buys cheap rails of lower-costing materials, then submits receipts for higher quality rails while pocketing the difference in costs.
It’s not about the cost of the materials. It’s about the coefficient of expansion in specific metals. Metal alloys such as inconel or ti64 will have less expansion but it isnt feasible to build tracks with that. Most metals will warp when exposed to high heat and tension/pressure. Educate yourself before you try and dunk on public transport.
BART needs to go solar
I don’t see the correlation other than they think they are saving money on electricity by going slower? What does have to do with it?The tracks bend???Freight trains barrel on without slowing for heat.
they do slow for heat. A past neighbor worked for union pacific. he was always on call during heat waves to check tracks for swelling and warping….
BARF ain’t no freight train, it’s a beer can on wheels and rails made more for a kiddie park train.
Doesn’t surprise me at all in hot sun they have to slow down, but that should easily serve as a warning you probably shouldn’t even be riding BARF in very hot weather.
oops-what does heat have to do with it?
So in colder weather the trains will go faster?
Maybe they’ve been ordered to reduce electricity usage
… so years ago – heat or cold, rain or shine, 10 car trains were the rule… always at full speed … and fewer breakdowns ….. what happened? other than negligent leadership
Yes they would brag that the trains go 70 mph anytime of day,all year long. What happened???
When they leave the Concord station they go 5 mph for most of the trip to PH,and they “need to stop to pick up employess at the Concord maintenance yard”.I guess Bart employess all get a free ride and dont even need a card and make 3 times the salary of the average rider.
