Pick One:
.
A) Funyuns
B) Munchos
C) Yuck
C) Yuck.
Just not my bag of Chips, … ha!
Oddly enough, I cannot pick. Haven’t heard of munchos and haven’t had funyuns in over 25 years but do not recall them being yuck, so I will semi-apologetically waste everyone’s time with a non-answer.
nice to see you 2 up so early to enjoy the sunrise…….
Super Roz is always an early bird. She is a worm hog. LOL
He-He!
Sorry, S, never tried either. Favorite chips are Fritos original, sour cream and onion (Lays are good), Ruffles, and Casa Sanchez tortilla chips (the grueso style) – Uh oh, I know way too much about this subject. Now, about dips……
Back in the mid 1970s I had a gig at a music store and for a mid afternoon snack tried different things. I settled on Fritos because they actually lifted my energy compared to pretzels or crackers. Fritos originally known as “corn crisps” have been around forever. I found a recipe online from the 1920s. Not that one really needs a recipe because it’s half corn meal, half water, some oil and salt. Frito-Lay makes out like bandits on these because they cost so little to make. i particularly like chili ‘n cheese fritos which one can make by adding cheese powder and chili seasoning. F-L adds MSG probably to make you want to eat more or make them taste meatier. The two mentioned above were probably introduced to either add more selection or compete. Funyons sound like it’s an onion chip?
@CAPTAIN BEBOPS…. In the 70s highschools in MDSD had a small size bag of Fritos cut open and topped with chili and cheese for snackin’. I downed quite a few of those at Concord High, still a good wintertime snack 50+ years later. One of those food history TV shows has a good episode about how Fritos came about. Sounds like you might have seen it.
CALIFORNIA TOAD ~
Just for kicks, try Trader Joe’s Organic Corn Chip Dippers.
More flavor, less salt, and holds up to dipping.
Thanks for the tip, Roz. Love some good corn chips.
Lay’s Kettle Cooked Chips “The Best”
Lightly Salted Lay’s are pretty good too.
Homemade potato chips is what got me started on this adventure. Why are potato chips so expensive? So I found a recipe that made potato chips in a microwave. They didn’t turn out like Lay’s but more like the gourmet ones that cost more.
.
You just slice the potato in to chip sizes, put them in a plastic produce bags with about a tablespoon of oil and shake around then lay them out flat on a plate and microwave until crisp keeping an eye on them so they don’t get overdone.
Blasphemy!
I think I freaked out a Trader Joe’s employee a few years back when I mentioned that their dippers were probably done by Frito-Lay. It has the same kind of bag etc. Thing is these companies like Trader Joe’s don’t have their own food plants, instead they contract a vendor to make their products for them.
.
A friend wanted to get into the herbal teas thing a number of years back so he took a tour of the Budweiser plant up north a few miles. They bottle more than just beer including contract herbal tea products. This was also explained very well a number of years back on NPR by Paul Newman’s daughter who explained how their products got produced.
Yes that is very common in the food business. My ex husband was part owner of a vinegar company in South City. They would bottle vinegar for S&W, using S&W’s recipe.
Screaming Yellow Zonkers.
AHhhhhhh Zonkers !
I did a Pick One once of Crunch n Munch vs Fiddle Faddle…
Zonkers, Cracker Jack, and Poppycock all received an Honorable Mention for Claycordians
🙂
AH yes…. Cracker Jack.
I remember the jingle…
Candy coated popcorn,
A peanut and a prize…
That’s what you get in Cracker Jack!
Notice I said “A” peanut, not “peanuts” Cracker Jack is incredibly cheap & chincy, they barely put any peanuts in it, but I still love that stuff.
Wow ! Great responses…
.
“B” 4 Me… I remember when they first came out; was hooked. Difficult to find, not a lot of places shelf them; usually convivence stores at gas stations and such. I think they were meant to challenge the Pringles market, which was kinda new at the time.
about all the neat corn chip talk: Fritos where a standard in my house when growing up. My Father loved them. He said when he was a kid (1930’s), Fritos came in a can rather than a bag.
.
Today, I prefer the Fritos Scoops. More corn flavor to salt flavor ratio, but the sodium count is about the same as regular, Fritos. I enjoy the Fritos Twists also.
oh, back to Munchos: for those who never heard of…

HUMMmmmmm now I gotta go get some !

Took BART (Antioch line) from Oakland Airport for the first time in years. How sad the level of filth you see. Not much different than when driving through, to be honest, just viewing from a more elevated view.
Yup. Last week I was in downtown Oakland to meet someone for dinner and got off near Grand and there’s lots of homeless in tents and boxes under the freeway overpasses. Society really has deteriorated. There is a person on YouTube named Nick Johnson who has made very good videos on homelessness in Oakland and elsewhere I would recommend, it’s not so much about politics and agendas as much as just showing how bad it is so you don’t have to drive there to see it yourself.
@TO DO LIST….It all started to spiral downward when Chris & John’s hot dog stand closed up.
Cowellian’s First.
A nice guy from SunRun Solar stopped by today. Any thoughts on this company? I’m Dr.Skeptical when it comes to this, because I’m a giant ignoramus about it. Help.
I had solar installed 3 years ago and am very happy with it. My monthly bill in summer went from $350 to $100. The first thing I did was to have the roofing replaced. If you are any where near the time to do that, get it done before having solar installed. To have roofing replaced after you have solar panels cost you removal and reinstallation. I had 4 bids for solar the cost range was huge, from $12000 to $25000. I went with V3 on the recommendation of a neighbor, and they were to lowest bid.
Another point is scheduling both the roofer and the solar companies have no concept of meeting a scheduled installation date. I found that its “normal” to delay installation dates by several weeks.
Book report: Life Probe, Michael McCollum, 1983. The AI known as Life Probe has been searching for two things for over 10,000 years. First for intelligent life and also Faster Than Light technology. It had found many intelligent life forms but not any that had FTL tech. It has reached Earth but is in need of repairs. The bargain is it will share as much of its tech with Earth as payment for the work and will teach humans on how to make some of the things it needs. Not long after it thinks it spotted in another system some evidence of FTL. Interesting read that you might like. I enjoyed the interaction between the AI and humans.
Tony Bennett died today at age 96. I believe the last of the old timer crooners. The others:
Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Nat King Cole, and Andy Williams. It is hard to pick a favorite. Bing Crosby White Christmas for sure. Frank Sinatra so many, Night and Day, I’ve got you under my skin many others. Bobby Darin also sang rock, and folk, still I love his Mack the Knife. Andy Williams rendition of Ave Maria at Bobby Kennedy’s funeral gives me goosebumps. Probably Frank, Bobby and Andy is my all over favorite. Of course Tony Bennett was known for “I left my heart in San Francisco” which he did very well.
These were truly great singers and will be missed. The current version of TB’s song would be “I left San Francisco” because SF and California unfortunately have destroyed by City and State politicians.
It would be nice to keep politics out of this, which actually Claycord ask us to do. Of course you can’t mention Andy Williams without mentioning “Moon River”,
Or Claudine Longet!
@THE FEARLESS SPECTATOR….Childhood fantasy girl…..Love is Blue, so was I, well at least parts of me.
I was just referring to his music, not his personal life..Yes, l remember the story involving Claudine Longer
I believe my Mom still has all of the Andy Williams records and played them constantly when I was a kid. We always watched the Andy Williams Christmas TV Show where Claudine would sing also. She was rather fetching to say the least.
Why is there a “revote” on changing the Concord High mascot from Minutemen to Bears? Lost is lost. You don’t get to keep “revoting” until you get what you want. Accept it.
Why is the Board even considering spending $200,000 on a name change and all of the uniform changes, etc. that would have to occur? What about education?
Why is the current principal talking as though this issue of change is settled? The “revote” hasn’t even happened yet.
The principal who came up with the idea no longer even works at CHS! What she thinks is irrelevant.
Signed,
Former CHS teacher and proud parent of CHS graduates
..agree – see it in politics al the time too… if a tax measure doesn’t make it the first time then put it on the ballot the next…voters said no to high rise ordinance in WC.. city council said they would do it anyway changing zoning
because it was a tie vote. I expect the absent board member will vote to change it…..

Seems there is attempt to rid Mt. Diablo High of the Red Devils:

While we are at it… Time to change the CPHS Falcons. The Falcon; ya’ know, preys on the small and weak. We can’t have that; now, can we……
.
🙂
@S…..The “Red Devil mascot” used to be named “Danny Devil” back in the 50s/60s as I remember, he doesn’t go by that name now?
Danny the Devil LIVES ! for now anyway…..
a friend of mine has a kiddo who danced in the annual cultural rally last May and invited me; I saw Danny the Devil myself.
Was a great rally ! Those kids are Proud Red Devils
“Danny the Devil” isn’t that offensive to Irish folks?
@DR. JELLYFINGER….Only when they’re liquored up…..you know, like all the time.
As I prepare to move out of the Antioch/Brentwood area I’m going to share some observations and opinions . Born and raised in the east bay I have seen the good and the bad of it for 50 years.
Hwy 4 – I call it the gauntlet , 100mph+ ,something horrific will happen soon
Antioch- Home of the tinted windows( helps hide weed smoking and diamond lane violations)
Rolled down car windows so we can all hear the garbage your playing too loud( they’re craving attention)
Pants worn down to the thighs only to be held up constantly (never understand that one)
Tattoos covering nearly every inch of the body( if it’s body art why do you get them where you can’t see them?)
The fruit, tamale, flower street vendors- I know there trying to make a buck and good for them for trying but they should be paying taxes, business permits etc just like all the other businesses
Parents allowing their children to run around in a restaurant , grocery or department store(it’s just plain rude people)
So many homes with cars parked on the front lawn or a sofa out in front( a clear giveaway they’re renters)
People wearing pajamas out in public , store, restaurant, school( they having given up to sloth)
And of course the homeless camps , I’m always amazed at how much garbage they accumulate in such a short time
The decline of our culture, values and morality and quality of life I will not point fingers at, but I could, instead I choose to move where all of these things still exist and mean something
This LGBTQ nonsense began just like the letters do -lesbian ,gay, etc now they keep tacking on more letters and numbers it’s starting to look like someone’s PIN (enough already) don’t fan the flame people
There are lots of people who never learned that just because you can do something ,doesn’t mean you should.
Has anyone else noticed how run down and shabby the parks in the city of concord have gotten? I remember when the city received awards for their parks. Now they are full of brown grass and weeds. The Vietnam memorial in Newhall Park is a disgrace. The city leaders should be ashamed of themselves. It’s a slap in the face to our fallen heroes. How hard is to fix the sprinklers and plant a few flowers ? Absolutely shameful.
I agree PEPE…I did not know there was a memorial there. We all should get together and show the city how it’s done. I’m in!
They dont want to pay for roundup
PEPE
Where I currently live variuous service organizations clean the parks and trails Scouts, Moose, Elks, Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary and couple of clubs at the high school. We all take care of the parks. The plus for the organizations is gets many members involved, racks up reported service hours and we get to use the parks for free for our fundraisers
Perhaps contact a couple of these organization in Concord and see if they will take on the clean-up.
Broadway Plaza make a mistake by recently reopening the street where PF Chang’s is located. There are or will be a Chanel, Swarovski, Louis Vuitton store located there and it is likely to once again attract the “the world owes me the things I am unwilling to work hard for” crowd. It also didn’t seem to there be enough police presence. They should have permanently kept the street blocked.
They’ve sucked the charm right out of this town. It has more of an “Orange County Galleria” feel to it now.
When large numbers of looters show up and Police stand there doing nothing then city gets a 9.5 on the scum criminal scale. Add to that a DA that’s SOFT ON CRIME is like tripping all the mouse traps and setting out extra cheese.
For more of the same and worse reelect DEMs
.
If there is no threat of incarceration,
there is no deterrence to criminal behavior
Since 21 June they’ve released enough water from Lake Oroville to drop the lake level by over eleven feet.

Did you hear about the hair-lipped boy who only asked Anta for an eh for Critma?
This is one of my pet peeves. I had turned into the entrance to SunValley Mall, from Contra Costa Blvd. I was coming around the corner by the store 21 Forever, and had just passed the walk way, when a young lady came from the parking garage, she was on her phone, didn’t look left or right, just stepped right out in front of my car, fortunately I was not going very fast, and I had seen her coming from the parking garage, so I was prepared, and slowed way down and she crossed the street safely. She never even looked up from her phone, she was totally obviously to her surroundings. Had someone been going a little faster and not paid much attention she would have been hit. I usually complain about cars not looking out for pedestrians, however pedestrians not looking out for cars is just as bad, especially if someone decide to cross outside the crosswalk.
@Hanne
Frequent occurrences in that area: People NOT stopping at the stop sign that is located at the corner of Macy’s, next to F21. College Park drivers, mostly students, make left hand turns in front of drivers who are going from SV to Viking Dr; they even turn right and cross in front of drivers who are already in the far left lane on Contra Costa Blvd.
Entitled aka Dangerous drivers abound in CCC. Many go as far as becoming violent after having caused an accident that was their fault.
It’s all a result of knowing that there are no longer negativity consequences such as hefty fines and car impounding.
Hanne,
A few months ago I saw a Concord police car not stop at that F21 stop sign. It wasn’t an emergency that he was racing to with lights and sirens – he just didn’t bother to stop!
Yes you’re right, however pedestrians should also be aware of their surroundings and act accordingly. If l had hit that young lady l would have felt terrible even though I would not have been at fault.l was driving very slowly, and she was not in the crosswalk.
For those who have worked industrial maintenance, not a feller gauge or dial indicator in sight.
https://bustednuckles.net/no-press-no-problem/
@ORIGINAL G….Need to get me one of those new woke “feller gauges” so I can tell what gender new customers are.
Anyone here gone to see Barbie yet? Reported to be a really funny movie, great cast.
