A 17-year-old who was shot Friday night in Brentwood has succumbed to his gunshot injuries and died, police announced Saturday.

The shooting happened Friday at 7:45 p.m. when two men, a 17-year-old resident of Antioch and a 20-year-old resident of Walnut Creek, attempted to rob an armed 21-year-old Antioch man at gunpoint, according to the police.

All three exchanged gunfire in the 800-block of Marjoram Drive at Chili Court, striking the 17-year-old suspect and 21-year-old victim. The 20-year-old suspect was not injured.

The 17-year-old was transported to an area hospital where he passed away. The 21-year-old victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Tried to rob the wrong person!

Too bad! I’m not going to shed a tear, as he deserved it! I wish this would happen to more criminals! My only worry now is that the DA will now go after the victim, for shooting the crook, more than she would have ever have gone after the criminal.

Serious lack of information here.

Was the victim legally carrying or was he also a criminal? Can we call this a case of a good guy with a gun stops two bad guys with guns or not?

Is the victim going to be charged with any crimes at this point?

Is the 20-year old suspect in custody or not? Did he flee the scene (he wasn’t injured) or did he just hang around and wait for PD? Are these three people aquainted with each other?

You have the right to carry in America unless you are a felon. If you get caught it’s a misdemeanor or a felony if you have drugs and are a bad person doing bad thing but in this case he has the right and you have the right to carry and his life was and he felt like his life was threatened so you have the right to defend yourself. This will be deemed self defense.

We’ll see!

Sure- they all had permits..you bet

I’ll bet there is much more to this story than released here, so I won’t speculate.

A gun is an inanimate object.

That is an indisputable fact.

Human beings make decisions, take actions, and suffer the consequences.

Drug deal gone bad?

Wait what … I thought crime was ok California … this is an outrage … prosecute the killer immediately and let’s get these guns off the streets … time has come to get this 2nd Amendment scratched once and for all!!! Re-elect Biden … he is doing a heck of a job for our great nation. #sarcasm

So there was a shoot-out, and all of them had guns. My guess is none of them were Eagle Scouts.

It sounds like a drug deal gone bad. But it is nice to see the fine gentleman representing Walnut Creek!

Any drug dealer can live in the Creek.

Sad to hear of a young life cut short due to bad decisions. I’m also sorry to say that we’ll next hear how he was such a good boy and didn’t deserve this. Well, when you make decisions that may end up going much differently than you planned, that’s the risk you take. We always taught our kids, you can make your own choices, but you cannot choose the consequences of those choices. Sadly, the family will be devastated and the kid has learned life is not a video game, you just can’t start over with new lives. I’m confident this is not the last we’ll hear of this situation.

In Antioch there is always a threat to public safety how can the cops make a statement like that, that’s absolutely ridiculous…

Good to see someone carrying whether they have a concealed permit or not and it probably saved his life.

The I’d a threath no matter where you live, anything can happen at any time. What police meant was the 20 year old and the victim is not a threat to others
Which make me think l might have known each other

I agree it’s sad that such a young person lost his life. At 17:he had plenty of time to redeem himself and go straight. While l don’t think you get the death penalty for robbery, can’t say l blame the guy that shot him. He (the 17 year old) choose to do something dangerous and paid the ultimate price. Hopefully the other person that was with him will have learned a lesson, although I wouldn’t bet on it.

Defensive use with firearm, that’s why one reason to protect the 2nd Amendment.

The 17 year old would be legally classified as a juvenile, not a man. So sad what’s going on.

Yes, poor juvenile… ‘got shot when out robbing someone else.

Not defending, just stating a fact.

This was on a dead end street in a nice neighborhood. It had to be a drug deal gone bad. Two robbers would not go there to find someone to rob.

Dead? Good. That’s one less criminal and social parasite walking this earth.

To the parents of the deceased:
.
Bummer for your loss but you failed at parenting.

Bummer for your loss. How eloquent. Kids and young adults are caught up in a world gone crazy. I feel for them. Yes, there is a lack of good parenting skills, but there is also a pressure put so much on our youth that they may choose to go down the wrong path. It’s a sad situation all around.

” I feel for them. ”

If they shot your kid–they would not feel bad… get a clue

Good parents sometimes produce bad kids. Bad parents sometime produce good kids. You have no information for that statement. Yes, parenting is important and usually good parenting will produce upright citizen, but that is not the case all the time.
