Contra Costa County Fire District Has New Fire Boat On The Way

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is getting a new fireboat.

Con Fire’s board, also known as the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, on Tuesday approved spending $825,000 for a 32-foot vessel for Con Fire’s maritime response team.

The money will come from the county’s EMS transport fund.

The new fire boat, which will be moored in Discovery Bay, can provide up to 1,000 gallons per minute onto a fire or acting as a water supply to units working along a levee.

A staff report for Tuesday’s meeting said the new boat offers a large working deck with an enclosed cabin, a landing-craft-style bow door, quick response capability, and low maintenance costs.

The versatility and dependability of the platform will allow Con Fire to respond in an “all hazards” manner for many years.

This would be the sister vessel to another identical vessel owned and operated by Con Fire out of Pittsburg.

“Fire Boat 95 is now moored at Bethel Harbor where it is positioned to provide much needed rescue, fire, and water supply capability for Bethel Island and surrounding delta communities,” said Lewis Broschard, fire chief of Con Fire. “The nearby and recently trained crew members of Fire Station 95 are staffing this new and important addition to our marine program, which also includes Fire Boat 85 in Pittsburg, as well as our swift water rescue team.”

Con Fire responds to emergencies on 30 miles of navigable waterways.

The boat comes from the William E. Munson Company.

BOAT = Bust Out Another Thousand.

I am willing to bet the $825,000 spent is not the operational cost.
Many , many ( 40-50 ) thousands more will be spent before it will be ready for use.

When was the last time a fire boat in CCC was needed?
Not in my lifetime…

You must be very young. This fire boat will pump water to land resources. At least two houses could have been saved.

Fire boats are used for water rescues and fires on the islands. Potentially a riverside fire when those pop up as well…

If the boat saves one life, it’s well worth it.

Water rescues are on a rise and there’s lots of area to cover. Maybe another boat for the Antioch marina. Regular summer patrols wouldn’t be a bad ideal.

Confire should stop wasting money on helicopters and boats and use that money to put ambulances on the road since there never seems to be enough and they won’t send their firefighters to all medical calls.

Con Fire doesn’t transport. AMR, a for profit private company, covers transport, with Con Fires’ name on the side of their busses.

Confire has the 911 transport contact which they subcontract to amr. Confire could dictate how many ambulances they want on the road. But like all greedy corporations. Confire just cares about buffing their own fire resources for the scare house fire. Never mind all the medicals that do not get timely ambulance resources or the calls they simply do not send the fire department too. Guess what happens when you fall and hit your head in contra costa county. Do you get an engine? No. Pretend to steer blame away from confire. But my grandson told me all the shady bs they did before he left to go work for a real department that cares for its citizens.

It’s at Bethel Harbor now, but will be “will be moored in Discovery Bay”?
Did I get that right?
