The amount of illegal fireworks last night was better, the same or worse than years past?
It depends on who you are asking, …
Some like it Hot, some like it Cold, some like it in the pot 9 Days Old.
There were definitely MORE, … a lot more in our area.

I saw no illegal fireworks. There may have been some undocumented fireworks, keeping with the new woke traditional verbiage, but not illegal

I saw lots of folks celebrating our country’s independence. That is all I saw and it was beautiful.

In my neck of the woods, it was a little better than previous years, but still pretty loud. I looked out my window and some of them put on quite a show. The best part is that the 4th fell on a weekday, and most people have to work the next day, so the bulk of the fireworks stopped around midnight. New Year’s Eve is usually worse, because people have the next day off, and the fireworks can go on past 2 a.m.
It’s too bad for dog owners, and their poor little pooch. It’s been years since I’ve had a dog, but I remember how he would lower his ears and shake from the noise. Now, I have a cat, and she wasn’t the least bit fazed by the sound.

DAWG,
.
My previous vet told me that a human next to a running vacuum would be the equivalent of a dog next to a running jet engine, which is why they’re so sensitive to loud noises.

Dawg, When I lived in Benicia I had 2 cats, one was very hyper and senstive, the other very low key and relaxed, didn’t let much interfere with her sleep. When we had the earthquake in Napa, some years ago, not the one a few years ago. Both cats were sleeping on my bed, the earthquake was around 1 a.m. I was still awake (insomnia) as soon as my bed started to shake my orange cat jumped off the bed and went underneath. The other woke up, raised herself half up, had a look on her face, that I read to be something like this “Should I get off this bed”, then when the shaking stopped she just went right back to sleep, the other cat stayed under the bed for a few hours.

Well they were far worse than last year illegal wise, but since I love them going off it was good for us
Clayton I didn’t hear any or see any, but wow Concord and surrounding areas was like a free for all.
As usual all the anti TV ads and media announcements trying to get.t people not to do it did not work.

So it’s over all the whiners can get back to complaining about something else till NYE.

BOOM!

low class people who have lost all respect for others and their communities.
Fireworks going off on the sides of the freeway
was very dangerous, not to mention all the fires that happened last night. Fire Dept. would say it was way worse!

I was returning from my bro’s house and the fireworks in Pittsburg almost seem a tad less. But the fun part of that statement was the best ones were being set off across the same street and block as the Pittsburg PD and City Hall building.

S July 5, 2023 - 2:02 PM - 2:02 PM

you’re all hallucinating… Nobody can have or use illegal fireworks; it’s a law….
‘ya know…..

If they are not jailing people for serious crimes and they don’t do anything about homeless people starting fires, Then we all know they are not going to do anything about people setting off fireworks on the 4th of July and New Years. The “ legal.” Safe and Sane fireworks are not as big and loud and don’t go as high as the undocumented fireworks. We also don’t have the wood roofs that were around back in the day. So for me I would say legalize the safe and sane fireworks. I don’t think it would be any worse than it was last night.

Parent you must be deaf and blind. This was the worst it’s been for a long time.If people new and understood what this did to pets maybe they would have more respect. All fireworks should be banned.

Old Timer
If I were deaf and blind, I would not have been able to enjoy the lights of sounds of this years Independence Day celebration the way I did.

You can worry about your pets, mine were not bothered at all-one even watched from the window.

This ‘bombs bursting in air’ are why we are allowed to have the freedom of expressing our individual opinions. If you, or your pets, are not comfortable with a day that celebrates our independence … then you might want to reconsider why you are here.

It’s illegal! And fireworks are not the reason we are here or have our Independence.

o no .. it is illegal.

Fireworks are not the reason. Fireworks symbolize the ‘bombs bursting in air’ … I hope you know where that expression comes from.

Hanne Jeppesen July 6, 2023 - 2:19 PM - 2:19 PM

Old Timer, You are so right. There are different ways of celebrating our independence, how about reading the Declaration of Independence, listening to Whitney Houston singing the Star Bangled Banner, or other patriotic songs, performed by different artists. I’m not against fireworks, I’m against the illegal fireworks that, in this dry area, can be very dangerous. Since several cities did have fireworks why not just enjoy that. If you think we need to have lot of illegal fireworks that starts fires, to enjoy the 4th, it is a very superficial view of the freedoms we have. I heard a talk show host saying every year on the 4th he would watch James Cagney in “Yankee doodle dandy”. Ju

I do listen to my vintage John Philip Sousa album every year….
When our kids were little, we’d march around the house to it waving little American Flags….
AH…… Next year the grandchild will be big enough to join me.
🙂

Rebel July 5, 2023 - 4:01 PM - 4:01 PM

It was way more intense. I heard explosions louder than I’ve ever heard/felt before. It literally sounded like being shelled by artillery (near by). Straight out of a war zone.

No complaints though. Had a good view.

… worse than usual… this is why it needs to be illegal in CCC – there seems to be a shortage of “safe & sane” and responsible people around fireworks … waaaaaaay too many fires

It is illegal in CCC, you actually think that’s gonna stop it? Hahaha

Domo July 6, 2023 - 7:31 AM - 7:31 AM

Of course not – but being illegal now is hopefully keeping some that are not so “safe. & sane” , and responsible – from lighting them off and setting more fires… duh.

Itsme July 6, 2023 - 9:12 AM - 9:12 AM

Safe and sane may not go as high but they can start fires if they spark on dry vegetation. The non profits can figure out other ways to raise money if they used their heads.

It’s hilarious that the same people that vote to legalize theft and pay people to get high on the streets want the law to crack down on fireworks.

You can have an orderly, lawful society, or you can have the mess we have currently. You can’t pick and choose like a menu.

Dana Estates was a war zone last night. Never seen or heard it like this before. So much for the hotline provided to report illegal fireworks. How about a hotline for the missing PD that did not exist?
It was so loud, I could not get off the toilet!

.
It was worse.
.
California’s elected officials’ subversion of law and order, and permissive policies has only increased general lawlessness.
.
This state is STUPID.

Is it politically correct to call them ‘illegal fireworks’?.. shouldn’t we maybe use the term ‘undocumented patriotic displays’? We wouldn’t want to offend anyone with a bad connotation.
