My elderly neighbor, and her boyfriend, lived together for over thirty years in his home, and about a month ago he died. Because they were not married, and her name wasn’t on the house, and the boyfriend had no living relatives, the house went to the state. A real estate company bought the house, and after renovations will sell it. This poor woman also doesn’t have any living relatives, and doesn’t have anywhere to go. All of a sudden, just like that, she became homeless. She was forced to move out, and she had to leave everything she owned behind because she couldn’t provide proof of what was hers. Even her car was in the boyfriends name. It’s a tragic situation, one day she’s living a secure life with her boyfriend, and the next day she finds herself homeless.
Morale of the story: people that don’t want to get married and are living together, better see a lawyer, or one day you may find yourself homeless.

A will could have been written up even online for free. You don’t have to be related to the beneficiaries.

This sounds good, but it will make the homeless population grow. We need to enforce drug laws and place them in treatment so they can get their lives back.

I would be in favor of moving all homeless into a camp were they had a cafeteria, toilets ,showers, and garbage cans. Force the druggies into rehab. Feeding them when they are out on the streets is sort of necessary but not a good thing.

Sad story, l wonder she couldn’t challenge it in court. Some women have gotten palimony after living together for a number of years. Did he have children?lf he did, the moral right thing for them to do would make sure she would get something from the sale of the house, so she could at least rent a room or a small apartment/studio.and keep her car
After dating and living together for 4 years, he was being transferred from New York to Milwaukee, asked me to come with him. I said after we get married, l was not about to leave my job. and friends without some security. So l stayed in New York for a couple of more months, and we got married in Denmark im July and l moved to Milwaukee, thankfully he was transferred to San Francisco after 6 months.

Ups, missed a words, I did that from my phone, and the text is so small. I meant to say after living together with my exhusband, he was transferred.
As for this sad story, this is the homeless people we or the government need to help. I don’t think anybody older that is not drug addicted or an alcoholic should be on the streets, that is inhumane. She sounds like someone that perhaps is not aware of what kind of programs that would be available to her. Had she been more aware she would have arranged for her boyfriend of many years to protect her, then again if she was good enough for him to live with for years, he should have protected her. Sounds like they both were not dealing with the reality of death.

Hanne, With the help of Medicare, and Medi-Cal, she is in an assistant living home.

Bless these people for feeding the homeless. But they need to follow Contra Costa County health rules and guidelines regarding feeding people. These rules include that every kitchen where food is prepared and cooked be inspected and approved by the County, each helper obtain via online testing a food handler’s certificate, and each helper wear gloves during food preparation as well as food dispensing.

Are permits from the City of Concord required for GROW Concord to hold these homeless feeding and supplying events?

The alternative to the food they eat from this group seems like it would be from a dumpster or stolen. Bless this team of angels for sustaining lives when the authorities don’t seem to be concerned.
