A man suffered a major injury after a firework exploded in his hand in Martinez on Tuesday night, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
The man, who authorities say is 66-years-old, was taken to the hospital just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Veale Ave., just south of Pacheco Blvd.
The extend of the man’s injuries is unknown, but a tourniquet was applied to his hand at the scene of the incident.

A 58-year-old man in Illinois was outside his home setting off commercially rated fireworks that required a permit. When one didn’t go off, he looked into the tube and, POP! We can use our imaginations as to what happened to his eyes and face.

Actually, that must be the same guy I saw when I was going down Veale Avenue. He was illegally setting off fireworks in the middle of the street. After he set one off, I saw him dumping water on it. Maybe he’ll think about not doing that any more! I hope his injury heals and there’s no permanent damage.
