QUESTION: Do you answer your door when somebody knocks on the door or rings the doorbell, or do you just ignore it?

Talk about it….

I do after looking out the window.

Police will tell you it’s a good thing to do- to answer or at least acknowledge from behind the closed door. Because the trend is now of people who knock on your front door and if no one answers they go around back to break in.

I always answer the door to see what they want. Then politely tell them to beat it if they don’t have what I want.

@ PAUL ~ even with a ‘No Soliciting’ sign here, people will knock/ring, then I answer and point to the sign, …. but oh, they are not ‘Soliciting’, … Right!?! So, same as you, … we tell them, they don’t have what we want.

I believe in answering the door if opportunity knocks. Otherwise, ignore

I never answer, then I wait in the back hoping they try and break in.

If I am not expecting you…
I talk like crazy person from behind the closed door.
It sends them on their way…

Sign,
If you are peddling a product, service, religion, politician or something on a ballot and I did not invite you TURN AROUND and LEAVE.
.
Signs on all entrances criminals understand,
“There is nothing in this area worth your LIFE”
.
If they get inside,
30% hydrogen peroxide, drywall and 90 minute mud are cheap.

Got a camera on the front door (not a POS Ring cam). Very few people pass the looks ok view so don’t open door.
As someone mentioned above if they got a no open the door and thought nobody was home and went around to either gate into our backyard to try to break in or do something up to no good they’d be in for a hell of a surprise as the dogs would attack them with no mercy.

I always check to see who is at the door. Particularly if they raddled the locked screen instead of using the door bell. The sign says No soliciting but also, in large letters, says I don’t do business at the door. If they refuse to leave and keep trying to get me to open the door I let them know I will NOW call the cops. Rarely have to get to that point.

Back when I was a single sailor, I had a sign that said, “Solicitors will be Violated.” Now, I just let the hounds get to the door before I do, and that usually makes any problems go away.

I check to see who it is before opening the door.

I look out the window and if it is a neighbor I will open the door. If it is not someone I know I tell them that I am not interested in whatever they are trying to tell me or sell me. If they continue to try and hang around I tell them to trust me on this, that nothing good is going to happen if I have to open the door to get rid of them.

I always open my door when someone knocks. I don’t want to be impolite.

If it’s someone I want to talk to, they are welcome.

Otherwise, I ask them politely to leave and I close the door.

No one has ever knocked on my door twice, I just don’t understand why.

Perhaps because I answer the door naked?

I waited years to put up no soliciting signage, however all solicitors believe they aren’t soliciting, so I finally acquiesced. And as expected it made no difference.
I’ll answer through the door but will not open it. If it’s not a delivery requiring a signature I tell them to feel free to leave information on whatever it is they are soliciting. They never do.
The 12 gauge is close by in case we have a real problem. Sadly, these are the times we are in.

I always answer the door, then tell them “No thank you, I do not want solar.” I then proceed to tell them why when they ask (brief 2 sentence reply). Then, I say, thank you and good luck as they continue to talk about all my neighbors who have solar (as if I couldn’t tell by those big black panels on the roof).

I always answer the door if up and dressed. I do not answer the phone unless the caller ID a person’s name or a business name that I do business with.

I ignore and unfortunately no one has tried to break in yet and met my Kimber 1911

My home is secure with a driveway that reaches the sky. I have no issues with solicitors.

.
Yes I answer the door, but only after initiating the slide action on a Remington 870.
.
Ill answer SPAM calls and bait them with fake interest. Then put them on hold and leave them there til they hang up. Then I’ll block their number.
