Pleasant Hill police successfully recovered a woman’s stolen jewelry after it was pawned, authorities said.
Police first responded to reports of a woman’s bag being stolen on Maxine Drive on June 4.
The woman said she put her bag in her car, parked in a driveway and quickly stepped away. When she returned to her car, her bag that contained her wedding ring and earrings was stolen, said police. The earring stole is an Art Deco earrings that has sentimental value for her.
Thanks to the help of neighbors and home security cameras, detectives were able to develop a suspect lead and obtain a search warrant for a suspect’s house in Martinez. Police said they found the bag at the suspect’s house, but the jewelry was already pawned.
Police said they were able to track down the jewelry and retrieve the items.
Well done Pleasant Hill Police !
.
If you must store something in your car, stop blocks before you reach your destination and place item out of sight then continue on to your destination. These days there is usually someone watching. Don’t call attention by storing an item once you’ve parked.
.
Favorite spots for criminals to watch are parking lots at shopping centers, restaurants, parking lots / structures and movie theater parking.
.
Unfortunate reality of living in soft on crime CA.
Gone are the days you’d leave your vehicle unlocked with windows down when shopping.
That has got to be a first. The pawn shops and the police never seem to cross paths.
Meanwhile in concord my storage unit gets Robbed for over $10000 worth of goods including firearms, tools and ammunition and Concord Police never even came to take a report. It took them 4 hours just to call me back and have come to the station to take a report. Unbelievable, next time I’ll be sure to get robbed in Pleasant Hill, where the police still seem to try and do their job.
Good job LE! .. now Becton, do yours and keep ’em in the pokey!
I think the DA will we’ll decide after she sees what social group the criminals are from. Some people get passes, others would have the book thrown at them. It depends whether your ancestry is from Africa or Europe.
Years ago, I had some things stolen that turned up in a pawn shop, and I had to pay the pawn shop to get my stuff back.
Am I the only one who finds this story odd? Why would you put your jewelry into a bag, park in “a” driveway and “quickly step away”? Maybe it’s just the wording …. but, I’ll bet that jewelry was insured.
According to her interview on KRON 4, aired just after the theft, she was packing her car for a vacation. Before she brought her child out to load him into the car seat, she removed her bulky antique jewelry and placed it in a bag in the car. Whiling stepping back into the house to get the child, the theft occurred. She is very credible on the news report. If she had hatched a plot to defraud an insurance company, I doubt she would have gone to news media in an effort to get the family heirloom back. No need to cast aspersions on an innocent victim especially when your knowledge of the situation is so limited. No need for her to be victimized a second time on this site.
That explanation sounds reasonable. As I said, it may have just been the wording of the story that made it sound odd. I’m the person who locks my car even when I’m standing next to it getting gas, so maybe I’m overly cautious.
Don’t leave anything in a car in California.
